This makes me think Nintendo has 0% creative control over the Pokemon Company. Because seriously, what the living fuck.
I'll admit, I'm kinda interested in this game since I like Fire Emblem, but I doubt this game will see a release outside of Japan. When was the last time a Nobunaga's Ambition game was released stateside?
I hate the Internet...
Nope, only telling it like it is. You are 6.
@StairMaster
@Tony Ponce
I really don't think that's the case.
The original Red/Blue sold over 31 million. Pokemon Gold/Silver sold around 24 million. Ruby/Sapphire sold around 16 million. Diamond/Pearl have sold around 18 million. Black and White have sold less than 14 million. If I were to count the special editions (Pokemon Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum) then it would still equal less sales.
The Gameboy Advance was the weak point, and it hasn't gotten that much better despite the DS being the most popular system in history.
Nintendo know this, which is why they were trying to appeal to the people who have 'fell out of Pokemon' with Black and White. The campaign didn't work, as it sold less than ever.
So when I'm saying Pokemon is selling less than half it used to, that's not far off reality.
VGChartz is far from a perfect source (it's the only one regardless), but it's been made known to be close enough to the truth. Pokemon is slipping (which I wish wasn't the case) and it's due to sheer laziness. Pokemon on home consoles is utter tripe now.
They are riding Pokemon into the ground, and they better do something quick to get people excited about the franchise again and Nobunaga's Ambition isn't it.
Maybe some damn 3D graphics for the battles in the next game...
First of all, anything over 10 million is still phenomenal. Second, Black and White only released outside of Japan this year, just nine months ago. The numbers for the other games are lifetime sales. Do you honestly think the games aren't still selling? They are, I'll have you know, and I guarantee Black/White will surpass Diamond/Pearl when all is said and done. It's already selling faster then the recent entries. The race isn't over.
lol. That would be awesome....
@ "Haters"
How could you? You know nothing! NOTHING!!
*runs off and cries*
Seriously, I need this game. I really hope it turns out awesome.
10 million is phenomenal... unless you're main series Pokemon. The whole campaign surrounding Black/White was barking (and bullshitting) about 'change' and 'appealing to lapsed fans', so Nintendo are quite aware of the situation.
VGChartz don't make up numbers, they run polls. Their results are obviously an educated guess (which they adjust as needed), but industry people like Pachter thinks they do a decent job if that means anything to you.
If there was a better source than VGChartz, I would use it and I'm entirely sure the situation with Pokemon would be the same, a steady decline. A decline due to people getting bored of the games, and the franchise not being strong enough in overall quality anymore to bring in enough new kids (the anime is weak, console games suck etc).
I'm not denying that Black/White will have some legs, but I'd be surprised if it got anywhere near even Diamond/Pearl.
@Janklogs
Can you read?
I'm saying the problem is the LACK of change. They could at least pump some decent production values into it and that hasn't happened with the console or handheld games.
You can check Nintendo's own reports which released publicly every so often, or you can check numbers by region when available. Japanese numbers are the easiest to find, so you can compare sales across the series there to gain some idea how it may behave elsewhere. VGChartz should never be an answer just because it's most convenient. And Pachter knows better. He gets numbers straight from NPD. He wouldn't need VGChartz ever.
You have no idea what a "steady decline" is, do you? When D/P has sold more copies than R/S, and when B/W is selling at a rate faster than D/P, that's not a decline. That's the OPPOSITE of a decline. The fact that B/W hasn't surpasses D/P after less than a year of global sales doesn't mean anything. D/P have been selling for YEARS to reach their current number. B/W hasn't even had one full one.
You seem to forget that Nintendo flagship titles like Pokemon continue to sell way past their launch. Mario Kart Wii, for example, has sold more than 28 million copies worldwide as of this summer. That's more than any Call of Duty, and yet Call of Duty has routinely had MUCH, MUCH, MUCH bigger opening launch days and better sales throughout their first months. That's because Mario Kart sells much more consistently, as does Pokemon.
You show me the Nintendo announcement that Pokemon is in trouble, or ANYONE'S announcement that Pokemon is in trouble, then I'll start to take your words seriously.
I think the one thing that your forgetting here is the fact that when Pokemon first came out, it was a CRAZE, where just about everything about it was brand new and you could not get around anywhere without hearing about "the new coolest thing in town" and when the craze died down, so did a good portion of the fanbase.
So, while I will admit there is almost no possible way it will ever sell as much today as it did, it is still a force to be reckoned with, and it is in fact slowly back on the rise again. And if you personally are upset with the lack of change, think about it, if you were in charge of Pokemon, would you risk screwing up the basic formula of a franchise that is still making millions every year?
It was nice chatting with you dipshit, but some of us don't enjoy mediocrity.
Nobody gives a crap about Nobunaga's Ambition for good reason, and frankly KOEI haven't made anything seriously good since Operation: Winback on the N64.

@Tony Ponce
Why on earth would I bother to check the Japanese numbers when I could get an overall world view?
Pachter has gone on record to say that VGChartz is 'close enough', which should be good enough for the rest of us. The total sales of the different games in the series is PLENTY ACCURATE as NPD results filter out.
Knock VGChartz all you want, but first provide a better source.
If selling half of what you used to sell isn't a 'decline' to you then I can't help you.
The fact that such an old racing franchise like Mario Kart can be seen as fresher and a better investment than Pokemon should tell you enough on the matter.
The pre-orders of Black/White were very high (like LOADS of games also manage). The sales could rely on the players already heavily invested in the competitive community for sales, but whether it has the legs to match is questionable.
Diamond/Pearl didn't come anywhere NEAR Gold/Silver despite the DS being such a powerhouse, this CANNOT be denied. The attache rate for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl is nowhere near as impressive as it should be. It sold a few million more than Ruby/Sapphire (when Nintendo were at their lowest)... AMAZING.
Why would Nintendo ever SAY that Pokemon is in decline? That's utterly ridiculous, they would deny that crap until the very end. The language they used in their advertising campaign however is very telling.
They would ALSO say that Poke-Park is an amazing game... and I hope you won't start defending that aimlessly.
As well as that, do you think I want Pokemon to fail? I was part of the Pokemon generation and I expect it to live up to its potential. It has not.

@Mr 3man
Pokemon has been around FAR too long to be a 'craze', although I do agree that people went a little crazy for it myself included.
Call of Duty is growing, Mario and Mario Kart are growing. Pokemon on the other hand is clearly faltering because it's hard for people to give a crap anymore.
If I were in charge of Pokemon...
1. I'd stop taking out brilliant features and replacing them with crap. They have ruined the trainer interaction/rematch that they started with Gold/Silver. They have ruined the Pokemon Contests started in Ruby/Sapphire with their silly dress-up games. I would actually implement useful gameplay enhancing changes, and keep the core systems intact.
2. I would ensure that THE BIGGEST FRANCHISE EVER... at least looks the part and has some decent production values that people can get excited about. It's ridiculous that games like Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker look SOO much better than Pokemon, and so do the Stadium games on the N64.
Given that Nintendo released Pokedex 3D on 3DS for FREE, they could easily make main series Pokemon look half decent if they WANTED to.
3. I would ensure that Pokemon Snap 2 was made and given strong production values. It would be a console Pokemon game with the potential to appeal to all demographics, and is actually GOOD and is what people WANT.
I think I'd do a bang up job if I do say so myself.
