New pirate adventure game announced for the Wii photo

Capcom has just revealed in Japanese magazine Famitsu that they are releasing a brand new pirate-themed game for the Wii tentatively titled Treasure Island Z.

Directed by Eiichirou Sasaki (of Resident Evil: Outbreak, er, fame?), the game puts you in the role of a pirate in training as you use your Wiimote to search for treasure and solve puzzles. I wish real pirates had used Wiimotes to search for treasures and solve puzzles. That would have been awesome.

The graphics, although obviously “cartoony,” look pretty stylish and I am really digging the character design. Not much else is known about the title, but judging from the screens, it kind of looks to be a hybrid platformer/first person adventure.

Capcom knows how to make adventure games, so hopefully this will be one to watch.

Check out the scans from Famitsu in the gallery below.

Ahoy ye scurvy dog of a landlubber!
I'm not sure if that green thing in the middle of the second picture is a grabber or a cheap looking key blade. Looks like fun though, hopefully it stays that way.

Wait, are all of these pirate games just because of Pirates of the Caribbean?

Cartoony? Check.
Wii game? Check.
Fun? ???

Looks like it could be fun. Seriously though. Monkey Island Wii would be fun. That or Grim Fandango.

If they ever relased a new Grim Fandango game for the Wii (or any console, for that matter) I would pass out from happiness. How great were those old Lucasarts graphic adventures!?

The Dig was one of my favorite Lucasarts point-n-click games. Most people don't remember that one for some reason though.

Dear god, what is that thing? Is it human or some kind of pirate-themed furry?

Was it just me, or did no one else get the extreme feeling of "Zelda" when looking at those scans? Almost every one depicts what looked like a Zelda styled game in both look and action.

I hope they don't just make this game a flat-out copy... Other than that, Monkey Island ftw.

The old Lucasarts games were the best. I got hooked on Maniac Mansion and Zak McKraken for my Commodore 64 when I was a wee tyke and was ruined from that point on.

I remember The Dig. Robert Patrick. Shiny Box. Pretty cool.

"I can't use these two things together."

God how I hated that saying. When I got stuck I tried everything. Most times the combinations that actually worked didn't make any sense anyway.

I'd love a new Leisure Suit Larry point'n click adventure. Put it on the Wii damnit!

@ DJ Duffy. No you weren't the only one. I immediately thought Windwaker Pirates.

@ arrested developer,

Did it take you forever to get off the original island in loom like me? It took me forever to learn how that game wanted you to think.

But in the end it was awesome...point-n-click games still are my favorite genre.

@ Arrested Developer,

LOOM!!! I played the crap out of that game back in school. I loved how everything was based off of musical notes since I was a band geek.

This could be fun, but it looks a little old hat. Though I will give it a fighting chance (imagines wooden leg & Hook/ Drunken Parrot antics). The problem is that Pirates were crass and crude and did unsavory things like rape and pillage. Not the sort of thing Nintendo wants to be putting forth for the kiddies. And Im not gonna buy that the "Pirate in Training" or childlike image imagined for the potential audience, is gonna have to do all kinds of "search for treasures and solve puzzles" the real pirates in training had to do things like, "Clean that", "Kill Them" or "Get Rid of That Corpse". Now thats what Im talking about ya dig?

About time. Finally a fresh third-party game for Wii I feel really good about. Opoona just doesn't seem to be my thing, and though Dewy's Adventure has potential, this feels like a winner to me. And it also has some point and click adventure elements so hopefully companies like Lucas Arts can finally get into the Wii already.
