Those Zelda games are pretty hot stuff. So hot, in fact, that Nintendo is planning on making another one. Imagine that!
Speaking with Portuguese game site My Games, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said:
We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don't think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.
Oh? Could this be the fruits of Operation Moonfall, the movement to have Majora's Mask remade on the 3DS? Although Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto have considered the idea, neither think it's right to jump onto another remake so soon. This new game will be an original adventure, and it sounds like it will be stylistically different from the Zelda games on DS.
Aaaaaand that's all for now. Get to speculating!

Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Sweeter words were never spoken. Fuck touch screen controls and flute minigames :)
A nice change of pace would be a Zelda game where you actually play as Zelda! But for pete's sake, get a Bioware writer to do the story and dialogue.
What? Why would you play a LoZ game for story?
Confirmed.
Did you play Dragon Age 2? I think I'd rather keep the non-existent Nintendo writing.
Yes, I prefer a compelling narrative than the usual tropes that permeate most gaming nowadays. Save the world? Sure, but don't let a silent protagonist do it because that's so boring seeing one-sided conversations all the time.
And while I haven't played DA2, I have played Mass Effect 1 and 2, and while I do admit that their writing is far from perfect, it certainly held my interest longer than Twilight Princess ever did.
Let's actually play Skyward Sword first, putting all preconceived notion aside, and then decide if the series is moving in the right direction.
You know, rather than proclaim the need for voice acting, timelines, morality points and dialogue branches. Crazy, I know, but from the sounds of it so far critics seem to agree Nintendo knows what they're doing here and it seems the new blood under Aonuma seems to have freshened things up.
In spirit tracks you can actually play as Zelda.
We should get the guy who wrote War & Peace to write the script for the next Mario game too.
Well they do have two different Zelda teams, with one for handhelds, and one for consoles. Which is why there was two different Zelda DS games, when the console version of Zelda SS was still being worked on. So now that Zelda:SS is all wrapped up, I'm sure the console team is already in pre-production for Zelda HD.
While the Zelda 3DS team have probably been working on this new game for at least a year now. Seeing as how the last handheld game was almost 2 years ago, not including the Zelda: OoT remake, because that was done by a outside company in Grezzo. So the internal Zelda handheld team have had almost 2 full years since their last game!
If I want a realistic(ish) Zelda I'll play Skyward Sword. Between Windwaker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, I've never liked the characters more. I actually cared about them and shit in these games and kinda miss Tetra and all them.
I COULD DRINK THAT ART STYLE.
Great idea! Then we can employ Solzhenitsyn to write "A Day in the Life of Waddle Dee".
lol, bioware uses the same tropes OVER AND OVER AND OVER in all there games and their recent writing has been garbage compared to their past games.
phantom hour glass was a meh sequel to WW. it deserves better
I think they'll re release MM after this one is finished.
That would be pretty awesome.
I misspoke then, it's not the actual tropes themselves, but in the manner they're presented in. Bioware has a better sense of presentation than Nintendo does, in my opinion.
This is by no means a scathing commentary of Nintendo as a whole, but I'm just saying that it's been a while since a game of theirs has really gripped me and made me want to play it long after I've beaten in.
No thanks, I prefer Zelda's ability to SHOW the story and not just TELL me the story with walls of exposition.
Majora's Mask is far more compelling and artistic than Mass Effect could hope to be, and Twilight Princess did amazing things with character development.
Skyward Sword looks to have the best storytelling we've seen yet.
Mass Effect also has its share of tropes, the 'Space Opera' is pretty played out.
-----
As long as they differentiate the game to the home console Zelda (the main series) by sticking to the top down style, and keep on innovating and making each game special they can make as much Zelda as they damn well please.
Majora's Mask is my favourite of the series, but enhanced ports are still kinda lame.
I'm completely with you on that dude(/tte)
and this news is pretty old..
also also, you should cover the news that corpse party is due to 22 november :D
Neroisonfire
Ummm what? CoD realeases a new game yearly with barely any innovations
Youre lucky if you get two major console Zelda games per generation, they spend ages in development and the final product is always a masterpiece; how could you get tired of that?
Yeah, how dare Nintendo put out so many Zelda games, right? How can they have the gall, to put out one new console Zelda game every 5 years. Meanwhile Gears 3, Uncharted 3, Saints Row 3, 4 different Halo FPS games that all came out in this generation, says hello.
Only getting 2 Zelda games for this generation, really shouldn't tire you out. With MW3 out this week, there will be 7 different COD games this generation on the XboX 360 in COD2, COD3, COD4:MW, COD:WAW, COD:MW,2 COD:BA, and COD:MW3. So you're really comparing 7 games in 7 years on a home console, to two Zelda's games in the same amount of time? Talk about over-exaggerating to the point of absurdity!
