So far, Capcom has been rather stingy when it comes to showing footage of Okami sequel Okamiden in action. Fortunately, that miserly attitude has been made up for with a nice three-minute trailer that looks absolutely bloody gorgeous. And cute. So very, very cute.
This DS follow-up to the critically acclaimed PS2 title is promising to be pretty damn hot, and it looks incredibly impressive for a portable title. Anyway, don't let me keep chatting your face off. Go look at the trailer.

Meet the rest of the team
I'm a huge Okami fan. I love the original Playstation 2 version and I've been waiting, hoping Capcom would make another Okami. Now when I found out way back when they first announced it, I was very excited, despite being on the DS. (note: I love my DS, I was just expecting the next okami to be on the consoles again) But maybe this is where the game needs to be at this point, I thought. Millions of people own a DS, and maybe with better marketing, this could work and make sales be much much higher than the original and Wii port.
But I'm starting to think I thought wrong. I get a strong feeling that when I buy this game, I'm going to be disappointed. It has that Okami charm, the music sounds good, and the visuals are nice for the DS. But just picturing myself switching back and forth in those fight scenes, or the incredibly simple "draw a path for your companion" parts just look very...tacked on and without any creativity. It worked great on the PS2 controls, but this is a whole 'nother field. And just a side note, I wasn't a fan of Okami Wii's controls. This game worked just great with an actual controller.
I do hope that I'm wrong, and I am going to buy this day one just to support the Okami series, but if this turns out to be a pretty shallow, boring and unimaginative title with just the Okami name and visuals, then I'll truly believe that only Clover/Platinum Games is capable of doing a proper sequel. But we all know they can't do that anymore...
Well, I'm impressed. I have to say, for a DS game, the graphics are really quite nice. I absolutely loved the original Okami's stye, and I hope that this DS sequel can live up to it.
looks really cute sure, but I wonder how it plays. IF it's anything like Yoshi Touch & Go, it's a no no for me. I don't like games that play themselves. I need more interaction then the stylus pen.
Most certainly, I am pleased to see that the Okami universe will live on via this game, and Okamiden appears to share many of the stylistic hallmarks of its older sibling. However, I am a tad disappointed that the game is on the DS.
Do not misunderstand me, though. I know WHY it was put on the DS (costs, input device). On the contrary, my beef stems from basking in the greatness that is Okami's visual splendor on the PS2. The DS, in my opinion, simply has insufficient hardware to replicate that world's liveliness.
Will I keep an eye on the game regardless? Absolutely. I am excited because it is simply more Okami. As much as I loved DQVIII, DQIX apparently turned out to be pretty frickin' great in spite of following the same path of PS2 to DS.
Do I wish it was on, at least, the PSP or Wii? Admittedly, yes. Okami HD is a nice pipe dream as well, but few companies are taking that kind of risk anymore ...
I'll preface this by saying that the game looks pretty damn good, and not even "pretty good for the DS," just all around gorgeous. Loved the first game, very interested in this one.
Not having played the game, this is obviously just based on observation, but combat looks a bit slower and less involved than its PS2 incarnation, which I'm hoping doesn't end up being the case; battles in Okami were fiercely entertaining. And this seems like nitpicking, but...seriously...is there any new music for this game? Can we hear that at some point? Please?

I try my best. :P
Seems also like maybe the first one was ahead of it's time. The series seems tailor made for the DS's stylus input.

*crosses fingers*
This is the reason I love cel-shading so much -- That honestly looks almost as good as the PS2 game to me.
Looks really good!
Apparently you can't. Since.. you know.. this is for the DS and all.
Glad to see Capcom hasn't lost their damn mind.
A quality Wii port of this game will be most welcome; otherwise, my daughter won't appreciate me commandeering her DS. :)

I agree. It's because I pretty much know what to expect from such a historic franchise.
There's still some mystery to this game that won't get it's due until we play it, if anything has changed at all.
