This is a run-through of a demo for Super Bat Puncher, an entirely new homebrew game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. A platform game, you have to free the nature spirits guarding a dangerous planet and punch a lot of bats. As you obtain new abilities for yourself and the novelty boxing glove you wield, some very cool gameplay opens up as you'll see in the video.

Super Bat Puncher has been in development for the last year and still has a ways to go. Its developer Morphcat plans to take a break from the project but hopefully he won't sit on his duff for too long. This looks like too much fun to fall by the wayside. You can download the demo and play it with a NES emulator right now from the game's development blog.

while I love NES homebrew I do not condone the punching of bats. . .

Is it just me, or are the graphics better than official nes games. The eye animations were stunning on such old hardware.

Very, very well done. Looks better than many actual NES games-- this game looks like it would have been a classic. Reminds me of Cave Story, and that is a good thing... Cave Story needs an NES port heheh.

This "inb4" shit needs to stop. Don't see how it's clever or funny when someone does it on EVERY article.

This looks super legit. Shame it has to be sued out of existence so soon.

@Excel - And why would it be sued out of existence? Just because it re-uses other developer's code or something?

I doubt anyone really cares at this point. Not to mention that this thing is totally new and original, I've certainly never seen a game quite like it.

Also, this game is awesome. I want the full version.

Very much like Cave story. I love the sound effects and parts music, reminds me of Shining in the darkness.

However im not a lover of how sparsly populated the levels are plus it needs more varity instead of just bats and a few pigs. In short, long stages with repeating baddies is bad and makes for long and boreing gameplay. I will add that the this video the stages are short but it does worry me if itll be like that later in the game. Solely due to the fact its so common in games.

There was a lot more in that game than I expected! I would love to see the full game get done.

Any game that starts with the line 'Earth was invaded by explosive space bats' is an insta-win for me.

npa189@... that engine is very simular to the kirby engine exsept they took the details down some.

But I think it was smart to do that to make the gameplay sweet!
