New Metroid Prime 3 shots surface photo

Olympic-standard tipster, BlindsideDork, has unsurprisingly struck again, this time putting us onto 5 new screenshots and a title logo from the only-dated-yesterday Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Sourced from NGCFrance, they depict Samus battling through the traditional array of desolate industrial landscapes, some unidentified members of the additional cast, and at one point what appears to be Samus flitting through the sky using the grappling beam while wearing a black suit.

What this new armour variation might be is anyone's guess at the moment, but obviously given the combination of its colour and the swinging action in the shot, Retro Studios are currently being searched for any and all My Chemical Romance albums which may be on the premises.

There's also a line on NGCFrance's page which seems to infer a lack of multiplayer, though it's probably better to wait for official word from Nintendo before we start any petitions

Hit the gallery for the full set.

I knew what i was getting into when I bought the Wii, but I can't help but feel ripped off when it comes to graphics...these are piss poor. It seems not even nintendo tries on the Wii.

For a system that is supposed to be more powerful then the CG (claim to the beautiful RE4) it sure does not show in anything...

@Shinamano

They are just screenshots, videos are much better examples of quality...that is if they are done properly.

Yeah, to be fair, the video I saw a while back looked slicker than any of the shots I've seen. I'm waiting 'til I see it moving again.

I'm REALLY not one to care about the graphics, so I guess it works out well for me that they decided to make Metroid Prime 3 for the N64 instead of the Wii.

@Shin

I stopped looking at screenshots a long time ago. Even on shit like GoW or Crackdown, all I saw was aliasing. All over.

That said, I don't see any visual improvement from MP (last one I played) to this one. ::sigh:: I'll have to wait for video, I suppose.

You have to think Nintendo is pretty confident with the control scheme since it is announced for August 20th instead of what everyone thought would be Winter or 08.

And this one seems to involve a lot more movement than the previous 2...not to mention giving the grapple beam to your free hand, and grabbing shields from enemies and...this just looks awesome and I can't wait!!!

The Screens are bad ya. But they're low res screenshots. The video from e3 looked really good in my opinion, and I've heard the game looks better now. So lets wait until later today when all the gameplay impressions are up and maybe some video..

The Metroid Prime games so far have looked damn good and I doubt this one will be any different. In fact, I'll bet we'll get pretty specular lighting and bump mapping.

I'm sure it's going to look at least as good as (probably better than) MP2:Echos, and I'm sure the controls are probably going to be the best first person experience on the Wii. Wasn't this supposed to be a launch title?

Leaving aside the technical nature of the graphics surely I can't be the only one that feels that what we have seen thus far of Prime 3 is all rather aesthetically unappealing. Prime was one the most beautiful games I have ever played. Echos and Corruption are just plain ugly in comparison.

I'm hesitant about a Metroid game with a supporting cast. At most, a Metroid game will have one ally, perhaps a few recurring enemies through-out the game. One of the main aspects of the series is Samus going deep into alien territory, being completely alone with no outside help.

And I liked the old logo better, with the logo itself looking "corrupted."

Nintendo themselves said there wouldn't be multiplayer this time.

Do you guys even remember multiplayer in prime 2? It was a DISASTER. Not fun. Prime 3 had better be spending all their time on single player.

I may be in the minority, but I hate Hunters on the DS. horrible FPS controls, no exploration, little back tracking. It played more like Quake than Metroid.

Metroid Prime is NOT AN FPS. anyone who has ever played this series knows that. an FPS puts the focus on fire fights and aiming. Metroid Prime's focus is on exploration and puzzle solving. You can lock on to virtually every enemy, and the challenge is never getting a clear shot, its using the right weapons at the right time and the right place... its all puzzles.

A FPS is based off of prespective, not play style. And "locking on" to an enemy with, what basically amounts to a light gun (the Wii-mote), if implemented, is just horrible game design.

I have faith they will do locking on well. Basically they need to have it lock the camera on to a particular area, but still make it so you need to aim. Godfather implemented it pretty well.

an FPS is not based on perspective. It's both. FP = perspective S=Gameplay. Is Oblivion a FPS? Metroid Prime 1 and 2 both focused more on puzzles and exploration than combat, anybody who played the games knows that. Why are people so fast to jam Metroid into the shooter category, if it was in third person I wouldn't be calling it a 3rd person shooter, period. While there is shooting, its a minimal part of the game, even boss battles turned into puzzles sometimes. Of course corruption apparently is a bit more of a shooter, from what I've heard.

Also, I think bump mapping was confirmed for whomever raised that question.

The videos looked tight, so I really don't care about the screenshots. Hell, if the game looks as good as Metroid Prime 2, I will be just fine, but it already looked better than that a year ago. I'm getting really tired of people just whining about the graphics, though. Even if it's not OMG SO PRETTY graphics the game can still be incredibly good. I just can't wait to find out, m'self.

@Necros - Samus actually had an ally in one of the best side-scrollers of all time, Super Metroid. The only glimpse you get of this character, however, is his rotted carcass at the entrance to Kraid's lair. There were some references to him in the comic miniseries that hit NP at about the same time as the game's release. Yeah, not the same as what we're going to see in MP3, but those allies are probably going to be isolated to crossing paths within the story. I really hope it's not like Halo 2 where you "get" to play a different story line with a different character. If I wanted to play as the covenant . . . well, who ever wanted to play as the covenant?

@Grapefruit - Gears of War uses a third-person perspective, and Fenix and the gang go on an adventure, does that make GoW a Third Person Adventure game? No, no it doesn't. Why? Because you're not spending the majority of the game going around picking up keys or flipping switches or solving puzzles. The prime aspect of the gameplay is the SHOOTING of the chuds. That's why it's a THIRD PERSON SHOOTER, and not a third person adventure game. In the previous Metroid Prime titles (with the exception of Hunters) the emphasis was on collecting and using items, flipping switches and solving puzzles, NOT fast reflex headshots. In fact, the shooting is so simplified, (lock-on, headshots are the same as body same as limb) that it's meant to stay out of the way of the adventuring, rather than being the prime gameplay element. We can simplify the argument further by dropping the perspective arguments. You'll agree that Halo and GoW are both shooters, regardless of the perspective, yes? Is Zelda: TP a shooter (because you spend time in first person shooting arrows)? Is the original metroid a shooter (because you shoot things)? Is Resident Evil a shooter (because you shoot things)? I think anyone would tell you "no" to all of those questions. Just because it's in first person and you're able to shoot things doesn't mean that it has the same focus as a game like Halo, which would make it a shooter. Since collecting and puzzle solving were MORE important than shooting in MP, (even the bosses required you to pick the right weapon and the right targets in the right order, and no amount of lightning-fast aiming would circumvent that,) it's hard, neigh impossible to lump it with the rest of the FPS genre. If you had actually played either one of the first two titles, it would've been obvious how the Metroid Prime games aren't really FPS's.

I think that would be a HUGE stretch to say Gears of War as an adventurer. I mean in Metroid you look for hidden areas for power-ups, and go to a lot of places to unlock things like you would in a Zelda game.

Good question!

They hired a character from The Tick to play a character named 'The Gambler', but he isn't even a comic book character. o.O

They also hired that one guy to play two-face.

Your guess = as good as mine.

The Harvey Dent guy is a good choice I think. I like it.

I kind of like how they didn't introduce Two-Face as his friend in the movie that he is the villain in. That is just being SMART!

Oh yeah, I made a little poll in the Social Lounge on this topic, don't know who is going to jump on it though.
