New Mega Man Battle Network crossover game announced photo

Capcom announced a new title at the World Hobby Fair in Japan yesterday. Titled Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star, this game is a Battle Network/Star Force crossover, an action RPG set to release on the DS sometime in 2009 in Japan, though no specific month of release was given.

The announcement was also light on details, but did come alongside the above picture. More details will be formally announced in the September issue of CoroCoro. It is said that the game will include a boss from a recent boss character contest in Japan.

While this may not have been the Mega Man game you've been dreaming of, producer Takeshi Horinouchi took the stage at the event and said that he had some ideas for projects for Mega Man's upcoming 25th anniversary.

Why does it seem they ALWAYS have to mention it's a multiple of 5 year anniversary?

Isn't Star Force set like 200 years after Battle Network? Guess there'll either be time travel or a really old copy of Megaman.EXE involved.

Personally, I was never a big fan of Battle Network, and haven't touched Star Force, so I'm not really anticipating this much, either.

Mega Man 10 please. I bought just about every piece of content for Mega Man 9, excluding the harder difficulty add-ons.

This shit isn't megaman anymore. At least Megaman Legends was revoutionary at the time (voice overs, huge 3D overworld, etc.), while the battle network/starforce games have been rehashes of the same material over and over.

Yes. More Mega Man please.

Granted, I haven't really exhausted everything from 9. And there's that silly secret that NO ONE has found.

But still. More, new idea, Mega Mans. Show me them.

I enjoyed the first Battle Networks, the story and character design was nice.
This still doesn´t sound apelling.

Screw battle network. Stop working on that and give me some Megaman 10! or an official Megaman 2.5D or even take those guys and get CAPCOM to make Zack and Wiki! 2 - Now with 100% less high pitched screams from Japan and actual voice acting!

Dammit, when is Capcom going to make a good, true sequel to Battle Network 3? That game was amazing... Well, at least it was when I was 12 :/

Uh..how...?

Last i checked doesnt starforce happen in the same universe roughly a couple THOUSAND years into the future of Mega Man EXE?

Oh lord. Time Travel plotlines.

If it is as good as the first few Battle Network games I'm all for it.
@GoldenGamerXero there was already a pretty hard 2.5D Mega Man on the GameCube called Network Transmission. It was Battle Network-themed but played like old Mega Man.

I hope for Mega Man 10 they make it native widescreen, that would get me interested.

This is my underwhelmed face.

They had a picture of X on that article they referenced. Where's my new X game?

And of course, I'll never stop hoping for a Legends 3.

How about they stop announcing special things for the anniversaries and just release good games when they are ready. In other words, Megaman 10.

Also, Screw Zero! He was nowhere near as good as Proto Man. I get the feeling the only reason he's been thrust into so many games (Yo, Zero! The games are called Mega Man, not Zero Loser!) is because he was the original design for Mega Man X and Inafune didn't get over how much more popular his older designs were (Also, better).

I know that had nothing to do with the story, but Screw Zero!

I never got into either series, but the idea makes me a bit interested. I prefer EXE's designs far more than Star Force's anyways, so that alone makes me a bit hyped. Hopefully it'll pull over the crossover with a bit more flare than typical mashups...though I don't expect it.

look Capcom. Stop these silly Star force/Battle Network games and let Keji work on Legends 3 already.

apparently the awesome sells of MM9 didn't wake Capcom up.

Megaman stopped being good at X6 (and MM9), they should really stop this Pokemon-like trend with Megaman.

Give us a proper 2D Megaman X, ok Capcom!?

BN = YES. I loved Battle Network.
SF= NOOOOO.

Not sure if I want this game or not. I hope they don't screw up the storyline from BN.

Also, MML3 now Capcom. PLEASE.

Dear Capcom

What the hell? No Mega Man 10, Mega Man X9, Mega Man Legends 3? Even the ZX games are a better choice. (Mega Man Zero series wrapped up pretty well, but I'd love a MMZ5)

The ZX, BN, and SF games REALLY stretch the Mega Man concept, and that's being GENEROUS

Give me Mega Man 10 with Bass as a playable character and I'll donate all my money to you, Capcom.

"This shit isn't megaman anymore. At least Megaman Legends was revoutionary at the time (voice overs, huge 3D overworld, etc.), while the battle network/starforce games have been rehashes of the same material over and over."

And the original Megaman games weren't rehashes?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of MM, I've beaten every game with the Megaman name on it(including Soccer) but out of Legends, every single Megaman game is just a rehash of another hell with MM9 you might even say its a step back since you have no slide or buster.

I do agree that the starforce games are crap, the original was boring as hell and so was the 2nd, I just couldn't get into them, hopefully this turns out better.

Oh and Megaman.EXE has shown up in the Star Force universe before in a sidequest so this wouldn't be the first time they've met, hopefully they'll get horrible voice overs out of this.

They should've kept the battle network series going. It had that fun earthbound feeling, deep and memorable final fantasy like scenes, sick legend of dragoon transformations, and fast pace ninja gaiden fights.

Seriously, anyone who never played BN should go out there and get this game right now.
