New Mario Tennis announced for the 3DS photo

In a somewhat surprising and quick announcement at the 3DS Press Conference, a new Mario Tennis was revealed for the 3DS. The only details Nintendo shared was that the game was going to have a way to play using the gyroscope and that it will be arriving in 2012.

There was a short demonstration of gameplay that did get me quite excited, as Mario Tennis is always a good time. I'm again just worried about the gyroscope mode. I'm really curious to see how it's even going to work for a freaking tennis game. Will we have to swing our 3DS like a racket, rendering the actual screen not viewable? I guess we'll have to wait and see when Nintendo decides to roll out more details in the future.

How it works is that you switch it off in the Options menu. Presto!

Mario Tennis yes, gyroscope no. If they announce Smash Bros 3D I'll forgive Nintendo for their bungling of the 3DS rollout.

As long as gyroscope isn't required, then I'm set.

They kind of demonstrated the gyro controls, without being too explicit about it. It looked as if you can swing the camera side-to-side with the gyro, thereby slightly altering your view of the court. It didn't seem particularly necessary at all, though I suppose it will be used as a feature for some, while others can opt to ignore it. That's generally the best solution when it comes to motion controls, in my opinion. I'm not entirely averse to them, but I want to have that choice.
