Mario Kart Wii is set to come out April 27. Until then, though, we got a ton of new videos of the game to check out. GameTrailers has several new videos, but I've only snatched a couple of my favorites, which are all after the jump.
But before that, here's the Japanese intro for the game. Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach are racing along on invisible karts with the stupid wheel shell. After Peach knocks away Luigi, the movie cuts into random gameplay scenes of the various courses, vehicles and maps. Just look at how Peach looks at Mario. She's such a cockteasing b*tch.
I did a little yelp when I saw that they brought back the Ghost Valley course. The original is by far my favorite of all the Mario Kart games, and I adored the Ghost Valley courses.
Another returning classic course, this time from Mario Kart 64. This is also my other favorite from the Kart series.
Funny enough, I really only care about the returning courses so far for Mario Kart Wii. Everything after the GBA version has disappointed me so much of the series that I'm not at all excited for MK Wii. The motorcycles look somewhat interesting, but that's about it.
Also, they better not charge over $50 for the game just because of a damn shell.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

This might sound a bit off-topic, but... listen to that first video for a second. How is it at all possible for voice actors to sound so apathetic when yelling, "Whee!" and "Oh yeah!"
The music is wretched, too. It just has the feel of a game you'd find in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart for $5.
I know graphics (and by association, audio) don't matter, but... whatever happened to craftsmanship?
It has Ghost valleys. How can I not love it? Forcing a wheel into the equation is fail though, unless they actually add some sort of functionality to it :/
I think Mario Kart DS was the high point of the series... the GBA game really never clicked with me. 12 player online races and online battle mode is what has me really interested in this one.
I feel like I've bought this game 4 times already. It's going to take something new for me to buy this one. I'd get it if the Wii's online didn't fail so much.
Mario Kart DS is a great game. I was very impressed with that one. Not sure if I am going to buy the Wii version, it looks like the same game plus Motorcycles.
Anyway, my brand new Wii has graphical glitches all over the screen (blue/green/pink flashing dots), but still runs games. Gotta call Nintendo before Mario Kart drops.
For starters the boost mechanic has changed, boosts now get more powerful the longer you hold the slide rather than waggling the stick so there's more skill there. Secondly it has 16 new tracks, what more do you want from a Mario Kart game?
Mario Kart DS is probably the best one so far in the series (excluding the first one which was nothing more than awesomness).
I wish i had more friends (cheap bastards), that wanted to buy a ds only for playing mario kart ds.
It's really hard to tell if the graphics even look any better. It really does look like Double Dash from all of the video. I didn't like Double Dash and I don't know if I'll like this because the whole trick thing looks pretty... Gay?
But I'll probably end up getting it for the broken multiplayer.
I think it looks fun and I'm very excited about it. While I enjoyed the DS version, my favorite to this day is DoubleDash for the cube. We still get together and play that one.
Since I haven't played this one yet, I can't predict it's inevitable success or failure. I can say that I think that the steering wheel looks like it is going to work and I look forward to it coming out so I can play it!
screw graphics and go back to mode7 2D. that's where the series is in my head. everything past that is just trying to compete with flashy racing games, but fails cuz it's still trying to pay tribute to the cartoony 2D roots.
i'm probably the only one who still believes this, so don't bash me too hard.
I was very dissapinted with the GC and GBA versions, making me loose the love for the series.
And i spent too many hours playing the N64 version. Too many.
I liked the Kart games up until 64 when the luster whore off, its just a copy and paste hack job, sprinkled with new vehicles and a few new characters, the same shitty broken A.I is still there.
I just can't get excited for this. I've mentioned before that for some reason that I can't explain, this one just gives me the vibe of one of the Mario Kart rip-off games except with actual Mario Kart skins. That's just the way it feels to me.
If I had ANY confidence that the online wasn't going to be straight up broken (or had decent communication options) then I could get a little excited, but after Brawl I just fucking doubt it.
I'm happy to see that there's plenty of speed boosters on the different tracks. Those were always one of the most fun parts of playing Mario Kart games.
The only Mario Kart games that I have played and liked are the ones on N64 and DS.
I hope they have a Luigi's mansion stage :)
they could have the mirrors act as portals to the other parts of the mansion and they could drive through the graveyard.
Man, what? The GBA version sucked dong, and I can't make myself go back to the 64 version after Double Dash. As a general policy I refuse to pay money for "modern" hardware less powerful than a DOS-based computer from the early 90s, so I never got a DS.
My parents are buying a Wii just for this game because back in the day Mario Kart 64 was the only game we could all three play as a family (my Mom is very not a gamer), so I was looking forward to this until I saw they were recycling tracks from the SNES version with, honestly, a bare-minimum improvement in graphics. Now I'm depressed.
whatever you guys are all haters. You know you will buy this when it comes out because you all have little cousins and you will eventually have a party where everyone will play the Wii and you'll be thinking "Damn everyone loves Mario Kart, should've got it!"
Maybe if it came with a free steering wheel, AND an expansion pack ala Donky Kong 64, I'd be more interested. Currently bothering my friend's Wii while his tv's broken...can't get past how terrible the graphics are.
This game really snuck up on me. Even if it does look just like Double Dash, I love Mario Kart games and I'll blindly buy them due to nostalgia alone. Yeah, I'm that guy.

Somehow I doubt that'll happen.
where's the forcing part?
I know graphics (and by association, audio) don't matter, but... whatever happened to craftsmanship?"
1. How could you judge the music from a short clip, where half the music is drowned out?
2. Whatever happened to not judging graphics based on compressed video?
In each and every one of your trailers, Luigi gets his ass kicked. For once, I would like to see him come up on top.
Just once.

IT LOOKS JUST LIKE DOUBLE DASH
Without working online, which you know it doesnt have, I wont be buying this. Also, it looks exactly like double dash
I'm still having a rough time with Mario Kart DS, the 150CC races are killing me.
I'm actually excited about this game. My love for Mario Kart has never died, so I don't care if the graphics aren't drop-your-pants pretty.
@King3vbo
I'm sure a side-by-side comparison video will be released here soon to prove you wrong/right.
But I'll probably end up getting it for the broken multiplayer.
Grans Turismo 5 Prologue - Local 2 player Split-screen with no AI racers. No Split-screen online.
Mario Kart Wii - Local 4 player Split-screen with AI racers. 2 Player Split-screen Onlilne.
Wow, who would have thought!!! The Wii outperforms the 360 and PS3 in features.
Shows just how retarded Microsoft's and Sony's strategies now are.
Since I haven't played this one yet, I can't predict it's inevitable success or failure. I can say that I think that the steering wheel looks like it is going to work and I look forward to it coming out so I can play it!
the music and tracks were awesome, and nothing beats the 2-D mode7-esque graphics. it even had the SNES tracks! how perfect is that?!?!
unbelievably. but it was/is/will be.
this game looks exactly like Double Dash.
