New MadWorld pics: Now with more Ninja photo

It's easy to overlook Sega these days, but some interesting stuff is coming out of its doors lately, with such crazy action titles as Bayonetta and this, the bloodsoaked black-and-white brawler that is MadWorld.

From the boldly colorless graphics to the gorgeously excessive violence, this is definitely a brave choice for a Wii title -- so brave in fact that certain morons in the UK already want it banned. Controversy aside, I'm loving the style of this thing and can't wait to give it a go myself.

Also, ninja: it has them.

Mathematicians have recently discovered that the level of awesome contained in a video game is equal to the total amount of ninjas found in said game.

This is the first time I've really seen anything about the game, and I'm really interested.

I've never thought about this before, but I guess a silver lining in the Wii's restrictive hardware is developers not having the zomg awesome next gen graphics to lean on, forcing them to come out with something a little bit different to set their game apart. And I'm always up for 'different' as long as it's done well.

A lot of people have already brought up the Frank Miller and Aidan Hughes comparisons, but I'm also noticing the stylistic influence of another artist: Yukito Kishiro. Not only with all the insane character designs and the backgrounds, but Kishiro has also experimented with with the same high-contrast style in his short work "Ashen Victor."

I'm really digging the song in the new trailer (up at 1up.com). I sincerely believe there needs to be more hip hop in video games, besides the Def Jam games. Rock has been represented in games pretty much since the beginning of the CD medium but hip hop? Not so much.
With this and Bayonetta, not to mention their work as Clover, Platinum Games has become my new favorite developer.

The opponent's name is Twirlenkiller. He twirls a chain thing and tries to kill you. Twirlenkiller??? Really?

Platinum all the way.
This is looking great.
I can't wait to give this a try.
I hope they can apply some anti-aliasing on those polygon corners to smooth it out and make it look a little less last-gen.
In fact it looks a tad Dreamcast like with the stiff faces in the last trailer.
They are probly not focusing on the graphics all so much as they are on its style and gameplay so it might work out on the end.
Though still, I'd think it wouldn't hurt, its also not like the machine can't handle a little polygon smoothing.
