I've brought you guys a present: new scans of the latest Famitsu featuring some awesome new shots of Mistwalker's forthcoming Xbox 360 epic, Lost Odyssey. Here are three big reasons, in no particular order, to keep your eyes on this game:
1.) Lost Odyssey is an original IP from an all-star team including Hironobu "I Made Final Fantasy Before It Went Insane, Jerks" Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu. It features an epic tale of a man sentenced to live for 1,000 years written by an award-winning novelist named Kiyoshi Shigematsu. I have no idea who that is, but the premise sounds hot, and he's won awards, yo. Them awards are probably made out of gold or somesuch.
2.) Lost Odyssey looks to be the game that long-time Square-Enix fans have been waiting for since the idea of original content went pretty much extinct at the company. If Blue Dragon's Toriyama-fueled DBZ-ness doesn't get your motor running, this game might do the trick -- an epic storyline with heavy themes and no pale, sickly-looking protagonists with bare midriffs in sight. That we know of, anyway. All it has to do is not suck, and we've got it made.
3.) It looks nice. Check out the scans below and start looking forward to Lost Odyssey, due out on our shores (hopefully) by the end of 2007.
And yeah, the premise sounds glorious.
I know what you mean about the move away from "Shooter box." but will people notice?
That said, the game DOES look fantastic, and despite how I scoff at all the typical fantasy games... I still have fun playing them. >_<
I look forward to seeing how the game turns out.
If you really want to split hairs, all rpgs with "big swords and a rag tag group" are just copying the Bible. Remember when Jesus washed up on the shore of the Euphrates River with amnesia and lived as a simple carpenter in a small village? Then he found out he was the Chosen One destined to save the world. He gathered an unlikely band of adventurers to aid him in his quest. You had John the Baptist who happened to be a water elementalist specializing in summoning large fish. Matthew was a pirate who owned an airship, which he purchased from all the taxes he collected. Oh and there was this guy named Judas Iscariot. He later became Sephiroth.
The CG movies are some of the coolest things I've ever seen but the gameplay looks about as exciting as the original dragon warrior.
DAMMIT. I NEED A 360.
