New Kingdom Hearts portable games on the way photo

Fans of the popular Kingdom Hearts series will be pleased to know that Square-Enix has confirmed three new titles, one of each coming to the Nintendo DS, Sony PSP and mobile phones. Exactly why three separate games are going to three separate platforms is a bit beyond me, unless Squeenix considers Kingdom Hearts a system seller, but whatever floats one's boat. Square-Enix does like to pull that card.

The announcement was made at the Tokyo Games Show, although there was no word on Kingdom Hearts III. Instead, we'll be getting Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on the Nintendo DS, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep on the PSP and Kingdom Hearts: Coded on mobile phones. I am personally looking forward to Kingdom Hearts: Spin-off with Another Cringeworthy, Cheesey, Lame Title in the near future.

I'm a pretty large Kingdom Hearts fan, but I have to say that the handheld spin-offs never interested me and I'm more looking past these games toward the eventual announcement of a real sequel. For those that can't get enough of one of the more unique gaming concepts of recent times, however, there's plenty to be getting on with.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will feature Sora and Roxas, while Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is set to star Terra, a character previously only seen in Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix +. Meanwhile, the mobile phone game is all about Jiminy Cricket and is set after the first game. That's ... interesting. I just hope someone is actually working on a real sequel instead of all these spin-offs. Can Squeenix ever do a simple, sequential franchise?

I mean, one that isn't Drakengard.

Personally I think the PSP prequel looks pretty interesting, especially after the awesome secret ending of KH2. The DS one I'm slightly more apprehensive about, having not enjoyed CoM. Any screenshots (is it 3d??) or any idea on the gameplay?

I'm interested in how Kingdom Hearts: 179 Days is going to turn out.

Wait, it's not a division problem?

Now that´s a DS seller for me.
Kingdom Hearts II is one of my favorite games of all times. I just loved the story, the button smashing, the characters.

The only game i regrest is a BS3 exclusive is the new kingdom hearts.

Hey, I felt Drakengard was a good entry into the Dynasty Warriors but with a Dragon genre.

I think the PSP one IS sort of a sequel. It will play like the other KH games and deals with story and characters featured in the KH2 and Final Mix 2 ending movies. I can't wait for that one. The DS one should be fun too. Especially since it's supposed to be full 3D.

But I'd really like to see this stuff... why the hell does Squeenix have to do all this "closed doors" bull crap?

"Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days"? Really? I've never played Kingdom Hearts because I've never owned a PlayStation, but I might pick up this one on the DS as I've heard only good things about the game... assuming, of course, that Squenix either changes the title or at least explains it.

Pretty sure that the DS one will be in full 3D, and the PSP one is set to play just like the PS2 versions. I heard that Mickey will be the playable character in the mobile game though, and that the DS game will not be about Sora and Roxas but Roxas and Organization XIII, with four-player options.

If the PSP one has anything to do with the secret ending of the second PS2 game, I'm sold. It sounds like the DS and cell versions are just gonna be to hold fans over until 3 inevitably comes out, but the PSP one actually seems like it'll expand on the main storyline.

@Genki-JAM
I think you are correct. However, i think it comes to an even greater extent... the final mix secret ending may have never been intended as a teaser for kingdom hearts 3, but was a teaser for this PSP title! The very begining of the teaser has the words "birth by sleep"... seems like kingdom hearts III, is even less likely to come to extance than ever before.

None of these are going to be card battlers, are they?

I would actually like another card battler a la Chain of Memories. Perhaps I'm the only person in existence with this opinion, but I enjoyed Chain of Memories a lot and I feel like I wouldn't have liked Kingdom Hearts II as much if I hadn't played it.
