New Kids on the Block NES game prototype on eBay photo

Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, and even Danny Wood wouldn't buy this piece of crap. Sure, it's a piece of gaming history, but it's also just some glossy paper taped around a box.

What it's supposed to be is a prototype box for a New Kids on the Block NES game. No game. Just a box. The seller says that it was a prototype that was originally in the possession of a "major video game magazine." From the box, it seems like the Kids were hangin' tough with publisher Parker Brothers. Too bad PB fudged that one up. They could have been gazillionaires.

So get this: The box has been relisted on eBay. It just sold for over $500, says Siliconera, but the winner didn't pay. Imagine that. It's back up to over $50 now. I'd maybe drop $50 if the game was inside. Maybe. Only if it had The Right Stuff in it.

Slow jam of the day.

Should I be happy that I can't remember New Kids on the Block?

Hey, tell you what. I'll print out an exact copy of this cover onto a box and flog it as ULTRA RARE RELEASED EDITION, bids starting at $1000. That sounds about right.

Ugh I remember when my younger sister and her friends were into these guys and would constantly listen to their music. I would leave for my friends' place when they came over because I knew that would be all they would scream about.

Um... whoever had that promobox really took crappy care of it. Even promo boxes from the 80's usually look better than that.

Damn. I thought there was a game in there. Wonder if there's any leaked beta or even alpha code out there.

Ha, my sister is a HUGE NKotB fan, even to this day. She won't admit it, but she named her firstborn after lead singer Jordan Knight.

That box looks like it was pulled from under someone's bed though.

What the fuck is that guy wearing the right?

Looks fake, tbh. The wear looks like someone tried a little too hard or used a box for something else. The cover... did anyone even use the term "official" video game at the time? That seems odd. Also the pink label looks like it was added after the rest of the art.

So... prototype, or some re-tooled crappy VHS box? I'm leaning toward the latter. Probably not worth $500, or $5.

I'm loving the brown blazer/black shorts/tube socks look on the left. Ahh, the 90s...

OH! OH! OH OH OH! THE RIGHT STUFF!

It's just the box? How does anyone KNOW there was going to be a video game for New Kids? That crap could of been photoshopped with the words "Video Game" on it.

God, they sucked. Really bad.
