Quantcast

The folks at 1UP had a chance to chat up Capcom's head of research and development, Keiji Inafune. You may know him better as the creator of Mega Man (Rock Man in Japan) and Dead Rising , as well as the producer on countless other Capcom hits like Onimusha and Resident Evil 2.

Though their time with Inafune was short, they managed to nab a few juicy tidbits. We get to hear more details of Resident Evil 5's development, the real origins of Dead Rising, and why there are no female leads in Inafune's games lately. They also touch on why it's so bright and sunny in the Resident Evil 5 trailer. Lastly, Inafune rounds things out with a heartfelt thank you directed at those gamers who have supported Mega Man this past twenty years. It is Mega Man's 20th anniversary, after all.

Aside from this video, 1UP also has a full text version that fills in some holes.

I was actually very pleased to read that members from Clover joined the RE:5 team. They were a really talented dev team while they were still around.

I for one call utter BS on the "games with female leads don't sell" notion. There are some folks at Capcom what need a throat punching.

This man is one of my heroes. He created something he loved, he started to climb the ladder, and now he's trying to get back to what he loves :)

I suppose his view on female leads is a little misguided, if not rooted in Japanese cultural misogyny. Its probably worth noting that female lead games are not mostly top sellers, but not for the fact of having a female lead. Some are just bad on principal. That one dance-fighting shooter game that Capcom put out (Prodcuts No. 5?) is probably leaving a bad taste in his producer mouth.

you speak sweet words joepaniic.

Update Megaman 2 with phat HD graphics. Steal/commission some music reworking from the OC Remix community.

I want.

I wish Powered Up sold enough to warrant the same treatment for MM2. Ah well.

Mega Man X was the first game that truly cemented my love for video gaming as a wee seven-year-old. I owe a lot to that little guy.
