Only sixty-two more days to go before millions of copies of Halo 3 are sold and millions of 360's suffer from the red rings of death all on the same day! Bungie is good at tormenting their fans with ARGs, videos and screenshots. This time though, the Internets have their revenge on Bungie! Thanks to some ninja spies, next months issue of EGM's preview on Halo 3 got leaked early.
There will be more new vehicles such as the human version of a Banshee (about damn time) called the Hornet, which can carry two gunners as well as the pilot. There's a really small image of the Hornet which can be seen at Geek Pulp. There's also another new Brute vehicle called the Prowler which is the equivalent of the Warthog. Speaking of Warthog, the troop transport variation that got left out of Halo 2 is making it back to 3.
Two new Brute weapons were also revealed. The Mauler being the Brute’s version of the shotgun and the big weapon being the Gravity Hammer. The Gravity Hammer essentially being the Brute version of the Plasma Sword. A new grenade type was also mentioned called the Flare, which will blind your opponents.
New equipment items include the Personal Shield, Regenerator and Invincibility. The Personal Shield is described as a combination of the Bubble Shield and Jackal Shield. The Regenerator will restore your shields and Invincibility is well, invincibility.
Finally, the news all gaming sites have been going crazy over. 2 player co-op has been confirmed, offline only though. One player will be the Master Chief and the other will control the Arbiter. Bungie has said though that they are working on getting an online co-op going. If that happens though, it'll come through a download later on.
So whats that say to you about maybe adding online co-op later? Bungie really wants it in the game, but obviously they don't have enough time to add it before the September release. Does this make anyone think back to January when it was revealed that members of Bungie said they "screwed up" on Halo 2? Sure, in that same article they say they don't plan on screwing up again, but if they can't add such a popular feature in time, then that just sounds like they're being rushed again to me.
[Thanks, Buck!]
Single player is too fucking boring, and I dreadfully HATE the multiplayer play.
Lol. No one will want to play as the arbiter on co-op('cept for me...)
Online Co-Op or GTFO
Man, I never feel excited for Halo until the new one rolls around and then I get giddy again. Damn you Halo.
Hey that gives me an idea, though. Any fellow Destructoidites in Lexington, KY for some Halo 3 co-op action?
But you have to think, Moore said it himself that they own Bungie, means the all mighty M$ sets the date they release it, finished or not.
Me: then you don't freakin' design levels like that! you design with online co-op in mind!
Frankie: "And there's lots of design things you could do to prevent that from happening, but they would make it not feel like Halo anymore."
Me: sounds like a cop-out.
totally unforgivable.
i'll cross my fingers for the co-op patch... good thing the friends i'd play co-op with aren't getting Halo 3 right when it comes out. Bungie, you're on the clock.
(oh yeah, this is a repost of a comment i left in a blog on the same subject, but who reads those darn blogs anyway?)
totally unforgivable. "
That's definitely not a cop-out. Halo is supposed to have massively awesome levels, the grand scale of things is one of the defining features of the Halo universe.
If they limited that THEN it would be unforgivable.
How is that a problem? God forbid that the players be in 2 different locations. And if it is a problem, why is it only a problem for online? I should think that Bungie could make online and offline co-op function in the same way.
1)Split-Screen = 1 Xbox 360 processes/contains all game data
2)System-Link = 2 Xbox 360's share game data but have the advantage of super-fast data transfer where latency isn't an issue
3)Xbox Live = 2 Xbox 360's, separated by huge distances, trying to share/update insane amounts of data over a broadband connection which most certainly will have massive lag
I agree, even if it has limitations, any online co-op they can come up with should suffice. Frank says he knows we want it. I'd rather eat a tough steak than no steak at all, yanno? But it's ok with me. It's still going to be a great experience, I'm sure.
I dunno, after seeing killzone 2 trailers, i so don't care what microsoft puts out. and now that gears of war is coming to the MAC even, i'm so happy.
I keed, I keed. Anyway, this info is fantastic, mostly. I'd rather Bungie wait and patch the online co-op in, instead of rushing to get it in. Think about it. Reading their comments on it, it just sounds like it was more complicated than they'd anticipated. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about. Just get the campaign and multiplayer right, then worry about the extra stuff. And who knows? Maybe they'll get it in before launch. Relax, peoples.
Man you lot complaining about lack of online co-op should come live here in new zealand for a while, and try dealing with our shite internet! Better yet, find a group of local friends and lan with them, youll see its worth the effort every few weeks or so(or more often like us, if you feel like it). Im just happy that they support system link, co-op rules but split screen does not.
I have played halo, and i find it klunky in ways. i hate the limitations of not being able to hold a lot of weapons etc. i just never understood why it got so big. why its suck a big deal when there are tons of first person shooters that just simply burry it.
i think co-op is a must. i cannot wait for army of two. that is going to be great..
There are a bunch of refreshing new FPS coming out, tons, but its the halo nation fanboys that love it and keep it alive. pst and dont mention KZ2, thats a ps3 game, we dun mention them kind around heear...
"Dibs on Master Chief!"
"But I don't wanna play the Arbiter!"
"What are you gonna do about it, stab me?"
"..."
"Tonight at 6, young boy stabs his brother during an argument over who got to play who in a video game. Parents are concerned about this incident, and others like it, such as the one that happened in July of this year in a similar situation. Jim Campbell has the story, and how to keep your children safe. *ba, ba ba baa.... generic news theme!*"
did bungie forget halo one all of a sudden. if one player passed over a loading point further in the level then the other player would spawn at that point.
hell, they could implement an invisible tether and warned the player to return... for all i care, they could kill a player if he got too far away - that's how bad i want online coop. i think most of bungie's fans would feel the same way.
bungie deserves some scorn for this. if not for the fact that they should've been on top of this months ago because they know how bad everyone wants it, but if they decided a long time ago not to do it, they should just go ahead and let everyone put their hopes down easy.
what this says to me is that bungie can't.... ush.. you know what, nevermind. i'm kinda pissed. this shouldn't have ever happened. halo 3 should ship with online coop if that means pushing its release back or not.
Yeah, PLEASE tell me how I'm going to work out inviting friends over when I've got one that's 6,000 miles away and another one that's 4,000 miles away.
You work out those logistics and by all means you're welcome to come by my place for some offline co-op as well.
I only played GOW in co-op and was expecting to do the same here as well.
Everytime I read an article about the online co-op being pulled I like this game less and less.
First I lose my goddamn UT and now this. This shit should've been announced at E3. Fuck Bungie for dodging telling anyone about this.
Nobody has friends.
I'm really sad that there's no online co-op, but if it's not feasible then it's not feasible end of story. (I don't understand why the second player can't 'teleport' behind the first player if he is too far behind- like most coop games though).
but with all the new stuff they added into the game it probbly would make up for single player not being fun
Not one where everyone with an opinion comes out and tells me it sucks and that every other FPS buries it.
So what?
I'm not a massive fan of other games but I don't spend my time in the comments bashing on it whenever there is an article about it.
If all of you are so disinterested in halo, and so obviously over it. Then why are you even reading these articles anyway?
Peace out people.
Yes, that was all well and good when all your friends lived within 20 minutes walking distance of each other. Such is not the case at age 29.
It was the living end to get to go to a friends house and do about 5 hours of street fighter every day after school. Not anymore.
Incidentally, a Halo fansite made an excellent point about this. The info for the article was gathered around mid-June. So, there's definitely a chance that this problem is closer to being fixed, after a month of work. And no, I seriously doubt that a downloadable patch is going to cost us anything. Stop being so fucking cynical. Damn, Gina.
One player plays as MC and one plays as the Arbiter?
Finally, co op that wont feel like a last minute addition.
One player is over a mile away from the other? Even better.
Gives me a reason to play through it twice. Once as MC once as the Arbiter.
Don't you guys realize that this means that playing as the arbiter in co op will be a different experience from playing as MC. Taking a different path every now and then or something similar. It's no longer the tired "There happens to be 2 master chief's and nobody is going to question it."
Now theres a reason for a 2nd player. It also sounds like that invisible tether/catchup thing is gone from what I can derive from this.
Now theres a reason for a 2nd player. It also sounds like that invisible tether/catchup thing is gone from what I can derive from this."
Plus Frankie said the enemies don't always spawn in the same place. That's something I loathe about most campaign portions of shooters; you know the exact spot an enemy will be after a single play through killing the replayability in IMHO.
