Sony has a brand new inFamous trailer up which shows off a little more gameplay to the sound of vanilla rock music that was performed by somebody's brother, probably. Of interest to anybody who's been following the game is a new power for main character Cole, a "Polarity Wall" shield, though you'll need to employ your eagle vision to spot it.
This game is looking pretty hot. My one concern is that the main character looks a bit generic. In my opinion, a plot-driven game centered around a super-powered hero should have a striking figure as the protagonist. From the looks of him, it seems that Cole might be a typical gruff-voiced cardboard man that we've seen in a ton of games before. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, as I'm worried about Protoype suffering from the same issue too.
Hit the jump for the trailer, where you'll see lots of electricity and stuff!

Meet the rest of the team
pretty cool trailer; reminds me of the promos for assassin's creed.
i think generic characters are fine--the protagonist doesn't always have to look particularly striking to be memorable or even good, and a generic character allows the player to project him/herself into the game more.
I don't need a character to stand out looks wise, but they should have a personality that's enjoyable. Nathan Drake looks like a normal dude, but his personality makes him memorable. Then you have characters like Rico in Killzone 2 who are only remarkable for how unremarkable they are.
I disagree with infinity. I need a main character that is striking. I mean you said it yourself, "I wanna be the guy", why would you want to be some cookie cutter hero with no personality?
I'm in Infinity's camp. Really not bothered about protagonists being physically striking. The biggest disconnect for me comes through the voice acting. Altair's accent and wooden talent threw me, regardless of the modern day element that justified it and the undeniable fact that Altair looked awesome.
The character animations have looked consistently wonderful, combat looks fun and the world looks gorgeous. As long as they nail the character [if and] when he speaks I'll be happy.
For those whose barometer of gaming enjoyment is more heavily influenced by shallow aesthetics, perhaps sucker punch will pack the beast with gems [a'la uncharted - good point, well made by brock samson here] allowing character model customisation. Really... Damned if i care though.
Lucky Day: Reading telegram: "Three Amigos, Hollywood, California. You are very great. 100,000 pesos. Come to Santa Poco put on show, stop. The In-famous El Guapo."
Dusty Bottoms: What does that mean, in-famous?
Ned Nederlander: Oh, Dusty. In-famous is when you're MORE than famous. This man El Guapo, he's not just famous, he's IN-famous.
Lucky Day: 100,000 pesos to perform with this El Guapo, who's probably the biggest actor to come out of Mexico!
Dusty Bottoms: Wow, in-famous? In-famous?
I'm more bothered by his main attack than his persona.
Instead of a bolt of lightning being thrust from his hand, it's like a spark you get from a blown lightbulb. He just runs around spamming that lame attack 800 times and it makes me really worry about the game.
Hey! It's Sucker Punch we're talking about here! After three really good games about anthropomorphic animals, I'd be surprised if they can't characterise one little human better than the average.
Though if they don't, you've only got yourselves to blame, buying every game involving generic gruff-voiced anti-heroes!
hmmmm, personally i think it was edited very well. So well, in fact, people are saying that they are all of a sudden taking interest in this game. We all saw the last trailer and we all saw that the game looked really generic and a little bit shit! Well, now sucker punch have done some really slick edits to a piece of music, shown off some lovely slo-mo particle effects and added a bit of movie inspired direction to the new trailer.. suddenly we all want it!?
Nah, Show me some proper footage.. I want to see it being played again. If it still looks like it did last time, then im not interested! Any shit game [not saying that this will be shit] But, ANY shit game can be made to look good when its given to the right editor!
I'm just liking how you chain skills together. Throw a electric orb grenade from above, use your electric slide hover to get above them, and then use the electric ground smash to finish it off......how cool is that. That's how superheros/villians (you decide) DO IT!!!
I am not a big fan of sandbox games but I have to say sucker punch knows how to make games. Funny every sony exclusive gets all kinds flack. I sold my 360 but I bought it for Bioshock and halo3.
My problem with the game is that what you get to play as is a lightning superhero/villain/gruff-voiced guy. Why do we always have to have a game with such a limited scope of options for abilities when they could let us decide what type of power we want to play the game with (fire, earth, ice, etc.). I'm not sure I can get excited about playing Star Wars Force Unleashed with a focus on lightning abilities.
I think between this and Prototype, I'm still going with prototype for superhero sandbox game.
Nearly every single comment I read on a video-game soundtrack is commending either really terrible butt-rock (a la early-00's Sonic games) or god-awful uhn-tiss techno. This, however, sounds like some of the more elegantly arranged and skillfully swelling rock epics from the likes of Mogwai. If the in-game music uses whatever composers utilized in that trailer with the addition of procedural audio cues, I may just cream my pants. And then, after hastily wiping up, promptly buy a PS3.
I actually really like Cole's outfit. But the face is definitely a little bit bland. If they spruced up his generic mug, I think I'd be a happy camper.
My only question is how easy it will be to control all of this? Awesome looking moves are all well and good... but not when you keep running your avatar face-first into a wall because you can't aim them appropriately! ><

i wanna be the guy.
God I hate Rico.
Other than that, I'm all over this.
Now give me some awesome villain and you have my money sucker-punch.
Its good to see Sony finally getting its business right. I think MS will have to buy some timed exclusives and DLC to defend its ground.

And I'll hold off judgement on the "boring" protagonist until we see some voice acting/personality.
I just watched a few clips of Prototype on Youtube and I muse say inFamous is looking MUCH more interesting.

(now that RE5 is out, i'm going to be doing that alot.)
