Shacknews got the skinny on some of the new and improved features that will be implemented into Halo: Reach. Everything that was annoying about Halo 3 seems to be getting rectified in Reach. You'll be able to see what your friends are doing a lot easier now and joining a friend in a game won't be a giant pain in the ass anymore.

What I'm really looking forward to is the new Arena Playlists. This is for the hardcore players and thanks to everything Bungie is doing in Reach, you'll want to keep improving your profile as opposed to creating a fresh new account because you're bored, like in Halo 3.

Shacknews has more to say on the new features of Halo: Reach that I won't go into here as that would be a dick move. It goes to show you how much of a Halo fan I am if UI changes like this get me super excited.

In the pants.

The Halo: Reach beta goes live on May 3 to those that own Halo 3: ODST.

So when this game is out, does that mean I'll finally stop hearing about a new Halo game?

Improved? Halo 3 probably has some of the best peer to peer matchmaking to date. I'm incredibly curious what they're working on if they're not bullshitting.

I'm glad that there's going to be a beta for this. I haven't played Modern Warfare 2, but it seems like the lack of a beta really screwed that game.

"keep an entire game together and move onto the next map."/"Veto2.0
I came.
Feature that's been sorely lacking from console shooters is the ability to quickly hop between maps with little downtime - PCs have ZERO downtime with an RTV system - which Veto2.0 is similar to, albeit still in the menu. Anything that keeps you in the action and reduces the time in menus is a fantastic move, and anything that gives players more options is also a great move.

"Ranked and Social combined"
Bad move. If I've been drinking and in a party of 6 people all dicking around, I do not want to be matched up with people after a proper game, I want to TK my friends and generally dick around. Thus ruining the game for people after a proper match. Whereas if I'm playing seriously, the system will have no way of determining this outright.

"Players will define their playstyle in the following four categories"
I like this idea, but I doubt people will use it correctly. I'd certainly love to see more games do something similar so that people with similar tastes can play together much better. Get Valve on the line!

"Arena Playlists"
Meh. Way to encourage elitist behaviour, Bungie.

What's a "Veto2.0"? I'm not a PC gamer so this is new to me.

Good news all round. The general approach to most MP games has been to add more weapons, more game types, more maps and generally just 'more'. While Halo: Reach seems like it will have a lot more of these things, it's nice to know that they would take the time to make existing features better.

Not too fussed about the new game modes, as I'm not particularly hardcore, I just like playing with buddies. Ease of joining friends, getting good parties together, getting onto good games on the maps you like and managing them without having the regular console party clusterfunk can be nothing but WIN.

"I vote kylamity never comments again."
Seconded.

It explains what it is in the Shacknews link, but basically it's that you are given a selection of 3 maps to change to, instead of just saying "I don't like that one, give me another". The option to shuffle to another 3 if you don't like any of the options there is in it too.

Personally, I'd like it if they just had a game where people could join/quit at any time and you picked the next map ingame with no return to menu, but that's dedi servers for you, and Halo does P2P especially well.

If I remember correctly, then Killzone 2 also had that......or was Killzone 2 different?

As Nolan South said, Halo 3 already had some of the best matchmaking, and before that Halo 2 was practiacally the forerunner for xbox live on the xbox 360.

I just hope they don't overcomplicate things, or change the dynamic so that you get rewarded for playing the game too much (like the last 3 Call of Duty games). A person could have been playing Halo 3 for 3 hours a day since it's release and it still wouldn't give them any in-game advantage overa new player, and I like that.

A mix of matchmaking and server lists is always ideal, so having the much desired custom games browser would be a sure success.

Heh Kalamity is a tool.

I still say ALL matchmaking is bullshit. Give me a list of servers to choose from and I'm a happy man.

yes, thats why Blizzard decided to go with matchmaking in Staraft2 ranked matches after all.

as for the blog post mentioning "everything that was annoying about Halo 3..." There is nothing annoying about what they have. It is an extremely polished mulitplayer experience, and they are continuing to improve with this Reach update.

the veto 2.0 is similar to Gears of war in my opinion. You actually have a choice on the map and gametype.

@ JonB The article says Ranked and Social conmbined, but If you have more than four people, it would split your team up, so You'd be against your friends.

but I agree with Dariuslloyd, Custom browsing would be amazing, however browse matching is normally only on pc, so if anything i'd expect "connect to a random custom game"

Yeah bro, how is that advanced copy of the Beta going? Oh wait, you've never played the game, just like the rest of us. Shut the hell up.

Man, Arena sounds awesome. These are all really good revisions to an already pretty good Matchmaking system, so I'm excited. The Veto 2.0 system sounds great, because Vetoing in Halo 3 sometimes involved getting a shittier gametype/map than the one you voted off, which sucked when it happened. I'm so psyched for this game.
