The new Legendary Map Pack for Halo 3 is now out. It will cost you 800 ($10) MS Points and will contain three new maps called Avalanche, Ghost Town and Blackout. Avalanche and Blackout are remakes of maps from previous Halo games and Ghost Town is a complete new map.
For a better look at the new maps, watch the above ViDOC by Bungie. Some of guys who worked on the new maps give a little run through of all three maps, Machinima style. There's even some corpse humping!
So who here is going to buy the new maps? I'm going to wait this time around for when they become free. Avalanche is extremely enticing, but a certain game is going to be eating up all my time in a couple of weeks.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Meet the rest of the team
They charge 10 bucks for maps? Wow, I miss the time when you could get maps for free.. oh wait, I'll just play PC games. I know there is a lot of work that goes in making the maps but isn't 800 points too much? If I still played Halo 3 I would buy them for 400 points max. At least after a time you can get them free.
After watching the video, I'm pretty interested in these maps, even if I don't play Halo that much. I want them, but I'm going to wait this time.
Last time I bought the new maps, they became free only a few months later (I was under the impression that they wouldn't be free for a year or something).
If you're planning to pre-order Ninja Gaiden 2 @ Circuit Shitty you get a download code for the maps fo' free. You get your code emailed within a week.
I wish that 2 of the maps weren't remakes but i still think it is worth it. Avalanche is quite an overhaul so it almost like a new map. lockout is identical tho.
I've downloaded them, and while I still believe them to be overpriced, I really enjoyed all 3. It wasn't like last year's pack where I only really enjoyed 2 of them.
Avalanche is massive. I love that about it. We needed another large scale map. The one that came in the last map pack was big, but it was too tight. This one pushes the emphasis on vehicles more which I live. Ghost Town looks great for some SWAT game-types or just all out slayer. There are lots of places to hide. As far as Blackout, it's Lockout. It's fun.
Those who play Halo regularly should pick 'em up. Those that don't, just don't. Those that play COD 4, what the fuck are you doing here? Go play your gray and brown "next-gen" game.
Damn it! I forgot to mention the filters! Also, Unicorn, team swat has been back, hasn't it? I think I read something today saying that Team Swat will only be available on the new maps from here on out though ... not sure, I'm not a swat guy. I just want them to fix Ranked BTB already >_>
I might not like Halo that much but the "new" maps are pretty cool.
We did have a right laugh on Avalanche earlier. After building a large ramp with man-cannons on, we proceeded to launch vehicles off it. It was surprising how far a Wraith flew off 1 of these things.
Best of all we gave up firing vehicles and just fired everything possible into the middle of the map and had a manic battle in the mess.
As for the filters, most made it very difficult to see what was going on.
I waited on the first set of maps, thinking that I was clever in not paying MS for a product that would be free several months later. What I really did, though, was continue to waste my life playing Halo, only with less variety than everyone else. Bought the new pack today!
Blackout isn't working for me, which is weird because I own at Lockout. Ghost Town looks and plays real nice. Reminds me of Turf. Avalanche is nice too, but it only really works for big games. I'm disappointed but optimistic. I need more time with them.
I have to be honest, the Heroic Map Pack was shit and was a waste of my money. Foundry was only good for Forge (still not that great) and Rat's Nest is terrible all over (not as bad as Isolation though... fucking shittest map in the Halo trilogy ever!... worse than Chiron even) but Standoff was okay but still useless in Forge.
This Legendary pack is actually pretty cool. Sidewinder is one of my favourite maps and it is good to see a remake (although it doesn't feel much like Sidewinder anymore) and well Blackout, come on its a win on its own.
The one map that really surprised me though was Ghost Town. That map is SO awesome!
Over priced but all three maps are awesome and probably my top three favourite Halo 3 maps now.

"Don't they give you the points back if it does become free to DL?"
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
oh, and Horatio, you need to start putting YEEEAAAAAAAAAA!!! after every comment of yours. you know what i mean.
speaking to the story, downloaded and played all 3 maps last night and they're WAY better than the Heroic Pack maps.
i think that's the one thing i'm excited about. haha.
that and flying hornets into bases.
that's the only disappointing thing i had about halo 3. "WTF is SWAT?"
my friend and i lived in SWAT on halo 2.
DO WANT for halo 3 pl0x

Also, those maps look very very hot. I also loled a bit with the video, great idea. FNF?

Can't wait for new DLC down the track
