New Halo 3 Achievements confirmed, other stuff as well photo

A few days ago we reported on a bunch of Halo 3 Achievement pictures coming out of PAX. Ultimately, the photos have been proven real. Bungie has announced that they are rolling out Title Update 2 this month, which will add new map-pack oriented Achievements to the game, a plethora of bug fixes, better banhammering, and playlist ratings.

Of course the juiciest announcement is the addition of the Achievements. All of the new rewards can be earned by playing the Legendary maps and Halo 3 campaign mode. We have a full listing after the break, but for fun here’s a few:

  • Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch (0 points) – Get to the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.
  • Double Double (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.

The new playlist ratings will break apart Trueskill values from experience. The idea is that players will define how good they are in specific game modes and the playlist will adjust matches accordingly. Unfortunately, the new ratings can’t separate voice from hard data, so you will still end up playing with that particularly rude and chatty 12-year-old.

Halo 3 "Legendary" Achievements
  • Vidmaster Challenge: Lightswitch (0 points) – Get to the rank of Lieutenant in any playlist in the new EXP progression system.
  • Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7 (0 points) – Enter into any ranked or social playlist with 7 EXP on the 7th of the month.
  • Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (0 points) – After 9/25/08, complete Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.
  • Double Double (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.
  • Poor Yorick (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 Oddball melee kills during any ranked or social match.
  • Came…From…Behind (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get 3 assassinations during any ranked or social match.
  • Defend This (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match.
  • Flag Dropped (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 2 flag carrier kills during any ranked or social match.
  • Road Rage (25 points) – On a Legendary map, get 5 Warthog chaingun kills during any ranked or social match.
  • Look Both Ways (50 points) – On a Legendary map, get a Splatter Spree during any ranked or social match.

Gotta hand it to the Halo folks. They know how to keep fans glued to the games.

This is fucking great... but honestly, most of them seem pretty difficult to get. Oh well, they don't call them 'achievements' for nothing.

@Endstiem: Are you kidding? The achievements worth any points are particularly easy; get two double kills, get 3 assassinations, a flag melee kill, etc...They're particularly easy, especially considering you can get them in a ranked or social playlist.

Just play the damn DLC playlist and you're guaranteed to get these in no time.

The "rumored" new acheievements added up to 750, which would have been awesome news.
But this is just a let down. New Halo acheievements? Eh, no biggie. you knew they were coming eventually.

Well.... not bad to get us to play again... maybe new armor and helmets to go with this? Or a chance at the infamous Recon armor.

Anyone have a clue as to what this "New EXP progression system" business is?

If its anything like the last EXP system, it'll reward the best players whilst keeping the casuals oppressed and rankless.

Only ten? It would've been nice to see the 250 spread out over more achievements. This is kind of "meh."

@ghettosmurf
I think it just means that your EXP is isolated into specific playlists. Like you'll have EXP in Team Doubles, but it'll be different from your EXP in Lone Wolves. Your military rank will also change accordingly in each seperate playlist, instead of having one rank for all. As I understand it, at least.

Why isn't Call of Duty getting some new achievements? Or any other game for that matter?

@Brad
Actually, I just read Bungie's update and this is NOT a complete list of the achievements. Bungie said they're adding more, as shown in the leaked pictures, but they need better "context" before they can reveal them.

@Sharpless - As far as I can ascertain, this is the complete list for the Legendary map Achievements. Notice that all of these add up to 250 points. If Bungie offered more than just this initially, then Microsoft needs to make an announcement that they're expanding the amount of Achievement points they'll allow for DLC.

These are all ridiculously easy achievements. You could practically get them all in one match (except for the oddball/ctf ones).

Directly quoted from yesterday's "Weekly Update": "As folks have seen, these aren’t the only achievements we’re adding. But without proper context, there’s not a whole lot else we’re going to say. Stay tuned."

@Sharpless - You really think Bungie is going to offer 750 points worth of content for one map pack, or will they break it up into three like the pictures from yesterday have shown? This is the full listing of the Legendary map pack Achievements.

I really can't say what they're planning on doing, but they did just say explicitly that this isn't the full list of achievements. I imagine that some of them may be for the hypothetical Mythic map-pack which is currently without a release date, but there are more coming.

You know what, if they're all tractable, and I won't spend another money of my life hunting for just one Achievement (damn you Two for One), then this might actually get me back into Halo 3.

@Random

Plenty of games have gotten extra achievements after they came out, from the top of my head I can think off Mass Effect, Gears of War and Ninja Gaiden 2.

As for CoD4, 2 reasons for that, one CoD sucks, 2, Infinity stopped giving a shit about it.

As for the exp system, it just tracks values in a certain way, like 90% of the time I'm playing BTB, I have like 88% win ratio in it, with this new exp system you're tracked on how you play, not just the true skill crap, like if you get 600exp in BTB, you'll be a general in THAT playlist.

As for those of you who are rank stuck, what playlist did you get your rank? Bungie's true skill system is a horrible piece of shit and its a got a ton of ways to fuck you over when ranking up, for example:

Going in alone in something like Team Slayer is better than going with a full team.

Doing better than everyone else might rank you up faster as the game gives a bonus for carrying a shitty team.

Some invisible variable is tracked on wins and losses and to much of one variable means its hard to rank up, others means its hard to rank down, its overly complicated and retarded, the best I way I can summarize it is, win to much and you'll have trouble ranking up, lose to much and you'll have the exact same problem.

I once played 10 Team Slayer matches in a row, won 9 of those one after the other, I only ranked up once, lost the 10th, ranked down, that was the last time I played ranked Halo and decided to stick to the social playlists. Hell I remember a friend playing ranked BTB, his team won 6 matches in a row, they lost the one after, ranked downed TWICE.

So I'm a rank 21 staff captain and don't give a shit, I can hold my own just find against colonels and brigs.
