New GTA IV details and scans photo

These Grand Theft Auto IV scans are from the latest issue of the British gaming mag Games TM. The 7-page-long exclusive preview contains details about the gameplay and some brand new in-game pics that make me feel all warm inside. Here's a quick list with some of the notes from the article:

  • *The cell you saw in the trailer appears to be a big part of the game. Instead of buying weapons at Ammu-Nation you can call "Little Jakob", a caribbean weapon dealer, who will provide you with guns.
  • *There is a menswear store called "Perseus"
  • *The "Tw@ Café" internet Café from GTA III is back. You can surf the Internet from every computer in the game.
  • *You will be able to use taxis to get around. You can watch the drive from the ego-perspective or you can skip the whole thing by pressing the proper button.
  • *Every crime committed increases the wanted level. As soon as you reach a certain level a search area appears on the radar. If you escape from such an area without being spotted by pedestrians/cops, the wanted level falls back. If you are spotted by a witness, the area changes to the place where you were last spotted.

Sounds to me like they want to make this chapter more realistic. What do you guys think? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? The shift in how your wanted level works will have a huge impact on the game -- instead of just hoping you didn't get seen, you'll have to be a bit more careful with your indiscriminate killing.

Check out all the scans below in their Brit-tastic glory.

I like the wanted area concept. It always bugged me in previous games when I'd stop to hide, thinking I was safe, and all of a sudden the area'd be swarming with police and swat teams that magically knew I was sitting in a corner behind an air conditioner.

I think they should add the feature I've wanted since GTA III - a portable radio so you can listen to stations while on foot.

i assume it will be the "internet" stored on disk because rockstar wouldn't want to alienate does who suck with no internet.it would be cool if they added more sites by the internet connection though.

@dtoid booo i tipped u guys with these same scans D: ah well.

I wonder if a civlian spots you if you'll have time to cap them before they can tell the police where you are. Almost like the 30 second rule, but with killing people instead of eating food.

Finally, we get a browser on the Xbox 360.

Wait, whether we have full internet access or not, will Niko read D'toid? Will he have fanboy leanings towards the Wii or the PS3? Would Niko be able to participate in a Photoshop contest here on d'toid?

Those are the bigger questions.

i'm willing to give it a shot. now if they can just add a service to get you car picked up spyhunter style to get repainted, i'd be real set. [i kid, but that would be a cool hack/cheat to have. or maybe something you can gain after completing the whole game. [better than the t-shirt]

This game is giving me three erections. Never before have I been upset about this, but I go on vacation 3 days after this game comes out. Damn you Japan and your sexy bukkake & kimonos lifestyle!

Buying weapons without visiting Ammunation is a great idea, kind of like the weapon drops in Mercenaries.

I hope the "surfing the internet" thing is the real internet, it will be a good way to reach gamefaqs without having to move from one's comfortable couch position, not that a game like GTA requires gamefaqs, what with the lack of unintuitive boss fights and obtuse puzzles, but it is neat nonetheless.

The wanted system has been very much in need of a revamp, hopefully this one will improve upon it.

Some more realistic changes to the wanted system are OK by me. Keep'n it fresh.

The new wanted system sounds pretty cool. I would also be cool if any cars you steal also become wanted unless you purchase a new paint job or maybe fake plates for it.

So far this game looks like it will be teh sex.

The paint job and fake plates have been in every single GTA game since... well it was in the first GTA game. How about that?

The wanted system sounds like a big change, and I'm sure it will make the game a lot more tense. As for the internet cafe thing, it sounds like a cheap gimmick to give Rockstar more money after the whole Manhunt 2 debacle. Unless it actually helps you with missions (eg, looking up info about a famous person Niko has to assassinate would be pretty cool) I'm not entirely convinced about that.

Apart from that wee complaint, the features in general sound pretty cool.

i second that! i would love to listen to the talk radio shows while i hunt for secret packages/weapons or just explore the area.

It always bugs me whenever we die on a mission, we go back to the hospital and lose all the weapons (or money - to get them back). Then we have to take the taxi and repeat everything again to get back to the mission (sometimes the mission requires us to drive to a certain place first).
I hope there's a quick continue mode when we fail a mission this time.

I'm playing Scarface on the Wii right now, and the wanted system sounds very similar.

I hope it isn't too finicky with the wanted stuff. Sometimes I don't care to be sam fisher.
