Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Could it be? A new video game based on the Ivan Reitman classic, Ghostbusters?

Videos that appeared online today indicate that a Ghostbusters title may be in the works. Credited to European developer Zootfly (Panzer Elite Action: Fields of Glory), the videos appear to either be test or proposal footage for a Ghostbusters video game. A little investigation done on the Ghostbusters.net message board revealed a PDF that detailed financial information for Zootfly, as well as a promo image for the game.

Whether these are real or fake is unclear, but we've contacted Zootfly for further clarification on the project, and will keep you updated if we hear anything new. In the meantime, hit the jump for some more videos.

Good God...PLEASE be true. I've wondered what a modern Ghostbusters game would be like for years now.

Wow that looks fantastic. I like the chrysler 300C Ghost buster mobile too. I love how its the same characters too.I bet Bill Murrey never thought he would be recreated in high res computer graphics when he made that movie.

My good lord. If this isn't true I will hunt down the man that made it up and kill him.
Surely it would be amazing.
A little while ago a friend of mine told me that he was asked about a ghostbusters game in a survey by codemasters. Could this be it?

Wow. If this is real, and they can snag the likeness rights/voice cast of the original movie, and make it not suck...

Well I'll be a happy man.

Not sure how I feel about the new Ecto-1 though.

It looks like a gritty version of the film universe. The actual actors are represented in the concept art.

Painkiller? I thought that was People Can Fly Still I'm glad you mention it because it due a replay.

A new GB game would be excellent, damn many lost afternoons playing that on my C64. What's everyone hoping for GTA style or more linear FPS/TPS?

I stand corrected. Dreamcatcher published Painkiller and they're partnered with Zootfly (who were said to be working on the sequel). I was really excited about proton packs and my facts got jumbled.

FRIGGINSAUCEM.

i'd be all over this. maybe an indicator for a new film as well? doubt it, but it's fun to think about.

anyway, i'm almost positive this looks to be running on unreal engine 3, which could explain the presence of raam there.

also, bill murray fell into uncanny valley and hit the ground hard! i dream of the day when all game characters' face are not creepy. halflife 2 set a bar like 2 years ago. C'MON DEVS!

I hope this is an indication that they are working on a game to pump some life into the Ghostbuster franchise and maybe get a third movie made. I have been hearing rumors off and on about another film where the Ghostbusters go to hell.

As much as I hate Sony, dammit I will buy a PS3 if this is exclusive. I want this game that damn much!

Also, the tricked out Chrystler 300M Ecto-1 tells me that there will be a new movie. Product placement, people.
And the actors are too old? How about this(my friends and I have been talking).....ghosts take over NYC, and the Ghostbusters are back. But they are too old you say? Well, they have some new recruits that they are training. The new generation of Ghostsbusters! Now that has Owen Wilson's name all over it.

The film version of Ghostbusters 3 is probably not going to happen. Dan Aykroyd wrote a new script a few years back, but he and Harold Ramis have had no luck getting a studio on board. Also, Bill Murray isn't interested at all (Ben Stiller was supposed to take his place).

There was a MUCH earlier version of the script that was going to star Chris Farley and pre-superstar Will Smith as the next generation of Ghostbusters to give you an idea how long the movie has been in development hell.

A third Ghostbusters movie has been kicked around for quite a while. While I like Bill Murray's recent stuff, I'd love to see him back in full snarky mode.

As well, Ghostbusters was one of those series that actually had quite a few more than decent games licensed to it. They were flawed, to be sure, but there was some thought and care behind it..you could tell that.

The jist of the games was that you had to run their business, driving out, catching ghosts to earn money to both pay for damage you caused and to upgrade your equipment. A timer ticked down, and when the timer ran out, you had to have so much money or it would be game over. Once you got past a few stages, it started a series of other games, that you played (with power-ups you earned through buying them), to get to the top of the power and kill the baddie.

I really enjoyed those games back then. They were flawed, of course. But it was a neat idea.

as much as i hope its true. running around and blasting stuff with a lazer looks like that gameplay gets boring really quick. If there really is a GB game in the works let hope its not mindless lazer blasting cause thats exactly what that video is.
Seriously, could you imagine investing 10-20 hours shooting ghost with the same lazer, cause thats all there is too, ghostbusting

I want some strategic elements added as well,
4 player co-op
I also want the trap back.

Heck I want alot of things. When it boils down to it, you just shoot ghosts with the SAME WEAPON. how do you add more content without straying from the core material?
