Despite a sequel for the 360 being hinted at recently, it seems all eyes are on the Wii version of the smash XBLA hit, Geometry Wars. And why shouldn't they be? With brilliant marketing like the above video, I involuntarily rushed out to the store to buy the game only to realize it's 2:30 am and the game doesn't even come out for another three months.
Still, I triple-dog dare you to watch the whole commercial and not want to buy something and / or slit your wrists.
[Thanks to TheGoldenDonut for being called TheGoldenDonut.]
i don't care if it cost $50. seriously, as someone who doesn't have a 360 (yet, you guys will know when I do ;) I think this game looks bitchin, and it just continues to show, that if you really think about it, the Wii is gonna have a REALLY good holiday. Zack and Wiki, Mario, Brawl, Metroid, Geometry Wars, Endless Ocean, (Disaster: Day of Crisis in September LAWL), even though I don't really have other current systems, my Wii and the backlog of unplayed PS2 games will do me REALLY nicely this year. of course, it does me no good now, but that's a moot point.
Topgear, a really good holiday is Mercenaries 2, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Halo 3, Bioshock, Oblivion CE, Timeshift, Two Worlds, Call of Duty 4, Project Gotham Racing 4, Need For Speed ProStreet, Area 51, The Orange Box, Rock Band, Guitar Hero III, Jericho, Virtua Fighter 5, Assassins Creed, Quake Wars, Mass Effect, Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, achievements, HD graphics and sound, XBLA, and no friend codes, but yours sounds fun too...
hey, it's no bueno when the editor of the site starts flame baiting, but whatever my friend, your call.
Look, here's the deal. I don't like FPSs. Racing games have limited appeal. Sure, lets play Oblivion (or play it again, whatever makes you happy), or spin-offs from franchises is don't care about. Figure that Guitar Hero III is coming out for the Wii, and I don't wanna buy a $400 console and toss $200 for Rock Band. That limits what I wanna play on the 360. Don't get me wrong. Viva Pinata, Dead Rising, Assassin's Creed, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, arcade games, etc. are all cool, but I like what the Wii offers me. It fits my more casual gaming lifestyle. Halo doesn't meet my needs. I still haven't played FFXII, finished Odin Sphere, played Persona 3, or even really scratched the backlog of the PS2. As it is, I have no time for a third system, nor money, and I prefer to have a life. Plain and simple. The 360 will always be there (if you're lucky) and I've got time.
For me to start now, I would buy the $400 console, with a $50 subscription fee. Pay for any other stuff I might need, then a couple of $60 games in prep for the coming season, then an HD TV (you know, to fulfill a bullet point from you checklist), any other controllers, etc, on TOP of the releases for the Wii and the PS2 (if there are any) i'm royaly fucked in the ass, with too many systems, too much to play, and no cash. That, my friend, is a problem.
I'll stick with what works for me, and you with what works for you. Until then, the Wii and the 360 are both gonna have a good year. To say otherwise is to be plain stupid of the matter
@Haley - I've lurked/infrequently posted on this site for over a year, and your comment is the first to actually make me curious about there being some sort of journalistic conflict of interest with Dtoid and Microsoft. It was directly negative and inflammatory.
Why flame the guy for being excited over the games he wants to play? So he loves t3h Marios, big deal. You should be loving Nintendo as much as Microsoft, as each Wii sold means another gamer who might come to this site and keep your bills paid.
Topcow, any hardcore gamer cannot deny that the Wii is impotent at best when it comes to offering next-gen experiences, especially compared to the onslaught of AAA titles I mentioned for the 360. topgear responded by saying that he's a casual gamer without very much money, so that explains that.
I do appreciate Nintendo sucking in the casual market as they are because like Microsoft pointed out, those virgin gamers will eventually want something more or perhaps see a true next-gen game at the mall or on TV and make the leap over to the 360 or PS3.
More gamers certainly is a good thing no matter how you look at it. I won't get into why I no longer "love" Nintendo these days because this post is not about the console race and I certainly don't want a 200-comment flame war to erupt in an article about a weird-ass commercial, but I don't work for Microsoft or you. I work for a guy named Yanier Gonzalez, and until you start signing my checks my writing is not going to change.
I don't know what you haters are talking about. This is one of the best video game commercials out there. Granted it will probably never air on television, but it's still good.
Kinda bad my only question the whole time (been excited for geo wars on the DS for awhile anyhow) was whether that was a cover of the song or a redux by TMBG.
William Haley calls Wii not-"true next-gen"; Jim Sterling shifts mildly on the Flamewar Throne, knowing that the article's topic is too old and flameproof to reach 200+ posts. Universal balance is preserved.
You'll get no flame war from me, I don't feel the need to participate in that idiocy. That being said, I don't see the reasoning behind your post other than to either
A) generate said 200 comment eruption
B) make the guy feel inferior for owning a particular console
Apparently you aren't t3h hardcore uber-gamer unless you own a 360. *shrugs*
MY EYES ARE BLEEDING!!! BLEEDING I SAY!! Who created this useless fucking drivel, they must be tried and executed in a manner most unpleasing. I'm not even sure if that last sentence was grammatically correct but that commercial seems to have driven me insane. Why would I want to buy a game on the basis of a commercial that I had to force myself to sit through? EGADS THAT WAS HORRIBLE! On a separate but not unrelated note I have smashed every wii that I could find and have barricaded myself in the realm of GRAW where these evil commercials cannot reach me. EVIL I SAY EVIL!
Come on leave Haley alone. Topgear started it with "the Wii is going to have a Really good holiday" stuff. Microsoft does have the superior holiday line-up. Haley can have an opinion too. Also, Topgear's list fails because of the absence of Fire Emblem.
um, how does saying "The Wii is gonna have a really good holiday" mean I'm flame baiting? dude. seriously. I didn't say anything about the other systems. I didn't say.
"the 360 is going to have a much worse holiday than the Wii"
or
"The Wii has a much better holiday going on than the 360."
i said "the Wii is going to have a really good holiday. And it will. Smash Bros. is one of the most fan hyped games ever. Mario will be great. metroid will be awesome. So will all of the games that people seem to forget about the wii. stop being a dumbass and actually think things through.
@Topgear
Actually my comments were directed more at Topcow than you, because he seemed to have an issue with Haley having an opinion on games on a gaming blog. True you didn't phrase it in a flame baiting manner, but you were the first one to bring it up. Nobody else was talking about the 360 untill you did. Whether it was flame baiting or not (I don't really care) all Haley did was say Microsofts holiday was going to be better. The Wii will have a good holiday, there's some good games coming out, I agree. I wasn't trying to imply otherwise. So. why don't you stop being a dumbass and think things through.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
oh, and to the silver chick and dude running in front of the TV? careful! cords!
Anyone know where you can get your hands on that song?
still want
Seriously.
congratulations!
CollegeHumor + David Lynch LOL!
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo just admitted that a bunch of pothead alcoholics (aka students) sent this in and just released it.
In fairness its infinitely better than those "this is living" ads...Christ they were awful.

That commercial looks like something that would come out of a Benadryl induced dream.
"BLAHHHHHHHHHHH"
*throws blanket over wii*
Not really, but god. Come on ninty, the ads... they're killing me and not in the good way.
Wii ads, eh? Yeah. But I guess if you made me a hat out of money I might make a fool of myself on a commercial, too.
Acquiesce, shitmasters.

You don't work for Microsoft, you work for us.
