New Gears of War downloadable content smells of sh*t photo

Microtransaction rape is all the rage nowadays and it sure didn't take Microsoft long to seek other means to squeeze out a bit more Gears of War money from your pockets. From the book of "Why in the hell are you charging this?", BradyGames is offering up, for a price, five 100-point videos of Cog tag locations. You know, that same content you can get for FREE anywhere on the Internet -- like right here or here, for instance.

My hope is that 1) nobody actually pays for this or 2) one person does and spreads it around on YouTube fast and furiously. Gamers, please do not pay for this. Please do not support content that has and should be free to everyone. This is corporate rape and if you contribute to this, then you are part of the problem, not the solution.

Someone commit a massacre and blame it on micro transactions. Then we'll get that shit banned.

People still buy shit like Gamepro, so I'm pretty sure there's a market for this kind of thing.

I'm sure they'll sale a hand full. What happened to them crying about giving away free content? Then they go and pull some shit like this.

I couldn't beleive that either. Or any of the other lame strategy videos they have for sale. What a racket.

I enjoyed the game so much I found them all by looking. Imagine that! Not like it was too tough or time consuming.

Its BradyGames, not Epic. The same ones that make strategy guides in hardcopy. So as dumb as it is, this move makes sense for them.

www.StuckGamer.com has free streaming HD videos of every cog tag location, and my site www.NextGenWalkthroughs.com has a walkthrough of the entire game on Insane.

w/e, as long as the gametypes and map packs stay free, i could care less what wayne brady does in his private time with the xbox marketplace and an industrial size container of sex jelly.

There's no need to get upset over this. At all.

First of all, Brady is providing a service. They took the time and effort to put together these videos. They have to pay people to make them so they charge you what they deem is fair. If you think it's too much then don't buy it.

Two, you already know you can get the same content on the net for free. The people that made them chose to provide them free of charge. It's their hobby. Great. So, umm, what's it to ya?

The only thing we have a right to complain about is downloadable game content like the GH2 tracks or horse armor. But even then the same creedo applies... if you deem the price unfitting then don't buy it.

Seriously, it's like going to an amusement park and bitching about the $3 bottles of soda in the machines.

this is why gaming should never be wholy on consoles. we need PC gamers to make free mods maps and nude skins etc. to extend a 2 month lifespan of a game to 4 years.

I can appreciate the "exclusive" argument, but there is no reason we should feel like we're getting raped on Xbox Live. I've always been cautious with the microtransactions thing. That doesn't mean that I don't buy my fair share of content on there, but I think about if I'm really going to use it or not. Impulse buys are always a regret.

As someone who was branded an asshole for downloading the GHII song packs (no regrets, btw...suck it bitches!), I gotta say this is pretty desperate. Paying a buck and a quarter for a video like this is ridiculous. You can't even refer to it in-game to find the tags as you play like you could with a printout from gamefaqs or something.

Summa, infact, Dear Destructoid

Why must you always use the term "rape" - it makes you look unprofessional as fuck. Seriously. People are only raped if they're not willing. I'd have thought you may have known that by now, all of you (who use that word in your postings at least).

There are more than enough people in this world to pay up and more than enough to turn their nose at it. Bottom line is - people will decide for themselves and remember those idiots at le 'Toid ranting on and deciding for the entire gaming population what is and what isn't wrong.

Videos showing you how to find all the widgets in a game...

Thats pretty ground breaking stuff there. We should all buy the videos to help support mediocrity on Xbox Live! I've been crossing my fingers over it, but here's to hoping that Madden 08 will offer microtransactions on a per-player basis. 'ya know, to make it more realistic I have to pay my players saleries via microtransactions think of the level of realism that could offer... *cough*

Hell I don't have Elder Scrolls, but I'm gonna go buy that horse armor too while I'm at it then I'm going to go out side and poke myself in my eyes with a stick.

no matter who produced the videos, they are still stupid. do they think people will pay for them when it is available on the internet? anyone who may not have the internet may appreciate something like this (or a legit strategy guide bought from a store) but wait a minute... you need the internet to DOWNLOAD the content... hmm... seems like the market for such content will be extremely slim.

Dear Microsoft,

Please delete all shitty content such as this from Live and put some more games on here. The Wii VC is kicking your ass release schedule-wise. You created the online console gaming realm as we now understand it. Act like it. Thanks.

Its still not worse than the guide to beating the corpser.

Seriously, whats the big deal? They still sell strategy guides in stores and yet you can still get guides online. No one bitches about that. This is just the next evolution of strategy guides. If you don't need are want it, then apparently you are not the target market.

Its not like they are making you pay for something that can be unlocked through gameplay.

Goddamn, this isn't good. I don't use XBL, but if Sony wants to start pulling this on me, I'm gonna be pissed. Just because of it's existence, people (dumbasses) are going to pay real dollars, pesos, euros, yen (probably not yen), whatever for it. And that, my friend, is how we have already lost the war on microtransactions, dumbasses.

@brainderailment,

I would expect Sony will be even worse when it comes to microtransactions. Wait til developers start using pay-per-game to fund their dedicated servers, and if that doesn't happen, they'll make their money back in microtransactions.
