Honestly, the PlayStation 3 has been lacking quality titles, but after watching the just released, brand new trailer for the just released, brand new Folklore (see above), my hopes for Sony's baby have increased triple-fold. I thought I had grown out of this sort of Tim-Burton-meets-Hironobu-Sakaguchi RPG epic until I watched that clip up there and soiled myself with glee. Absolutely everything about that film screams joy, happiness and golden apples, and honestly if I could procreate with a piece of media, it would be that clip.
One quibble though: that PS3 'This Is Living' font at the end still sucks. It belongs on a sign for a chain of family restaurants, not at the end of a classy clip like the above.
[UPDATE: Full disclosure time, the above video is a lie, people are gullible, and I'm a terrible person. Hit the jump for an explanation.]
Two days ago one of the PR guys I've been e-mailing asked me to review the above clip. After watching it three or four times over, I responded in an extremely professional manner: I thought the pacing was odd, there was too much footage of walking around, and of course, the mind-bending horror.
Only later, after speaking to another writer friend of mine was I informed it was actually a hoax. I felt humiliation the likes of which I hadn't felt since all those other kids in high school laughed at me on prom night after drenching me in pig's blood. Of course, lacking the ability to pyrokinetically ignite a gym full of PR folk, I opted for route number 2: congratulating them on making me look dumb, and praying they'd let me screw with the entirety of my audience. Of course, since they'd recently developed an evil sense of humor, they were up for it, and sent along the above clip for my use.
Of course, you realize what this means right? None of you can ever trust anything you read on the Internet again. Thanks to that above Folklore trailer, we've entered an era of lost innocence. You're welcome.
The 'This Is Living' font still blows, though. That part was not a lie.
/hates you
=D
Also, GAHHHHH
I haven't been following this game much, but from what i've seen it looks unique.
If this game ends up being really good, then perhaps I shall put it on my list of games to buy when I can afford a PSTriple
There's nothing more enjoyable in this game than sucking up multiple IDs or Folk's Souls @ one time! With the use of the SIXAXIS!
The music is excellent to comical & sound is great THX!
The load times aren't LONG & that's if you install 810mb worth of whatever it is on your HD.
The 2 playable characters are gameplaywise different.
It does get repetitive but you do have to go through different Folk to solve puzzles & beat bosses. But you have to realize it is a RPG!
Someday indeed... *oink, oink* where did that come from...the sky?
Wait, so if this is a hoax, then does this mean that Sony [b]isn't[/i] getting what looks to be a beautiful looking and hopefully fun game? How can making hoax trailer that looks good possibly be good PR? This just makes me hate them.
Said situation applies with hoaxes. I've never been able to really work out why some hoaxes are funny and clever, and some are just apathy inducing. Until just now, of course, so here goes.
Tricking people is easy. If you trust someone, it's a sign of faith and care that they are willing to take what you say for granted. There's no great amount of intelect or personal charisma required to trick someone into believing something mundane, especially when you're in a position of authority or assumed knowledge. The best hoaxes and cons are ones that have some kind of marked effect using such a hollow premise.
You have no reason to feel embarressed if a bored PR guy sends you a poorly made video trailer and calls it an actual trailer. You do however have reason to feel embarressed if you think forwarding the video onto a load of other people to incite the same effect is worth a damn.
It's like saying they've discovered a new type of bird and called it the testiprepubis. It's no more ridiculous than the tit, boobie, woodpecker or the cockrell, so why wouldn't people believe it?
Screamers are silly.
It was the first time I kinda wanted a PS3
Instead I bought a Zune, no seriously!
It's candy apple red .
