New Final Fantasy XIII screens have a bit of everything photo

Want an excuse to look at even more Final Fantasy XIII images? Try this one: "I really want to make sure its menu system is in line with my expectations." If that doesn't tickle you in the sweet spot, feel free to substitute "menu" with a gamut of other words like "events," "combat," "Fire Bombs," or " cute little girl."

If you were wondering -- and face it, what else are you doing right now -- these screens are from the Xbox 360 version of the RPG. The PS3 screens look the almost same, and, in a perfect virtual reality world, would probably smell the around same too. Make sure to check out Dale's two articles about his positive and negative experiences if you're looking for something just a tad bit more substantive about the game.

Oh, I remember these screens. They're the ones SE sent that were literally photoshopped versions of the PS3 screens with simple button swaps. Gotta love SE sometimes.

You can find the "comparison" at Siliconera:

I'm blazing through my renegade playthrough of Mass Effect 2 and Tales of Vesperia, just so there will be nothing to interfere when I bring FFXIII home. The anticipation is almost too much to handle.

Yes, I'm a FF fanboy. I'm ashamed to admit it, but it's true. I can't help it, I've just loved them all (sans XI).

Is it bad that this will be the first FF I ever buy and legitimately play?

And as much as I love my 360, PS3 will win this time. I'm really interested in the art style, and the graphics in general, and the lack of video compression on PS3 makes the decision easy. Plus, I may actually finish an RPG on the PS3.

@Cyril:

I've never seen such a desperate attempt at derailing a console you hate because it equally matches a console you prefer.

Gamespot/1up says both versions are identical, and even IGN says the game runs crispier on Xbox 360 over PS3 in gameplay (although cutscenes are slightly in PS3's favor). Then Square releases side-by-side comparisons and they photoshopped it, because fanboys won't admit the game is beautiful on Xbox 360.

So sad and pathetic, rofl.

Wow, someone thought I was trolling! How cute! Because I wasn't. I'm actually 360-only at the moment, but I suppose that makes me "biased" towards the PS3 somehow.

Seriously, look at the link. The games may run identical, but even I doubt they look as, literally, identical as they do in those screens. The PS3 and 360 versions run off of different graphics engines, that alone is cause for some minimal change.

wow infamy that's failing at reading comprehension.

There's not even a drop of console debate and you just have to spice it up with your own fail.

Look at the screens. They are 100 percent identical. There is no way in hell they could possibly time that shit to get the exact same screenshot. It's pretty obvious they did do a button swap.

@Pablo:

That's what happens when your brain is fried at reading N4G/GAF/SDF fanboy comments all day. Live and you learn.

He's right actually. Those photos are known to be shopped. Peg this one on SE for dishonesty.

I demand that you all cease all debate of differences between the two versions, and instead join me in fapping about FFXIII in general. Thanks!

Clearly photoshopped, but you have some that will be in denial. There's no way you can get both games to look exactly the same down to the minute block of a pixel with different shaders and HDR lighting.

sometimes I think people just don't want things to turn out just fine. Apparently if both systems look good there's a problem. If the xbox version looked better than ps3 people would rage. If it looks just as good people would rage. If it looked worse people would rage. Apparently gamers are just never happy and don't know how to enjoy whatever system they have. Just be happy with your version and quit complaining all the time who cares what it looks like its the same game.

Erm, ixraiderxi, no one is complaining about how it looks. We're complaining because SE did an obvious shop job on the pictures. They called it different versions of the game when they were the same screens with a button swap.

The fact that they would have gone way out of their way to grab those shots at exact same frame, not only in cutscenes (easy), but during fight scenes is telling! I know they *can* do this as a developer, but why would they bother having to sync every variable for each console to get not just similar frames, but exact same frames during dynamic battles.. Obviously photoshopped. Shameless.

I have my console preferences, which straddle the line between "all of them" and "all of them except maybe the Wii, even though it has a bunch of games i really want," but I hate to say that my reason for choosing the 360 version of this game is seriously to spite the horrible PS3 crazies who make the ACTUAL PS3 fans looks like tinfoil hat wearing loons. Seriously, the PS3 is fantastic, stop being so unhappy.

The game is going to be the same, no matter your platform. Even if it's not, one versions having arbitrarily crisper "grass texture 38" won't effect how I partake of the storytelling, and I doubt it will for you. Have a good reason for choosing your version, like "I prefer (blank) controller for this kind of game" or "I want to cheese-off weirdos online."

That's how I like to think about it anyway.

ah these perfectly executed marketing campaigns -- releasing only the specific amount of content and screen shots at exactly the right time. actually the best bit of promo i saw for this game was the ign video talking about the battle system. what caught my eye wasn't the battle system but the sweet sexiness of the menus with the little bits of fmv. that shit is hot... guess that makes me superficial :(

Despite being a zombie-like slavering Final Fantasy advocate back in the day, I feel remarkably underwhelmed by Final Fantasy as of late. Ever since completing 8 I've had little desire to play these games.

For those that may be curious, the screenshots are doctored.
