Final Fantasy XI’s upcoming downloadable scenario ‘A Crystalline Prophecy -- Ode of Life Bestowing’ has been priced and somewhat dated. The content will be available for purchase (through the PlayOnline Viewer) on March 23 for $9.99. However, you won’t be able to play with the new content until Square Enix rolls out a “version update” in early April.
Don’t worry about paying early. Unlike some of the hookers I’ve met during my travels, Square Enix probably won’t cut and run after receiving payment. The reasons are simple: First, corporations don’t have legs. Secondly, they’re liable to deliver.
The exhaustingly named ‘A Crystalline Prophecy -- Ode of Life Bestowing’ is the first scenario of three that Square Enix announced in November. The other two scenarios, ‘A Moogle Kupo d’Etat’ and ‘A Shantotto Ascension -- The Legend of Torn, Her Empire Born’ are due out at some point later this year.
Hit the break if you’re interesting in learning the expansion’s story. I’m Vana’diel retarded, so it’s impossible for me to convey its magnificence.

And yeah, I think the press release mentioned 500,000 subscribers. That's lively for an MMO that isn't World of Warcraft.
I'd really like a new FFXI, a sequel in the same world, or a prequel, or something..
also this game is slow eating up all the freetime I have. not that I have alot of freetime, but I got back into the game and no I have no life again.
Nice to see the content is still coming but I would much rather see them shorten the exp grind time now the game is on it's last legs so everyone can play it.
As a Hardcore player in it I must say you can do events now with no problem. FFXI is its own style and doesn't mimic anything from WoW or other late MMO's. With its new Level Sync system you can sync to any level and therefore get great 300+ exp on chains with your friends.
The best end game armor/weapons are now gained from quests, still some good stuff from Kings HNM, but definitely it has gotten better.
two weeks and 90 hours of play time later, i had gotten dragoon and leveled up to 25. at that point i was satisfied and no longer wanted to play. those two weeks were hell. i was playing that game more than i was working. staying up till 8am every day playing that game made me miserable and sickly, but i still did it!
every once in a while i think about playing that game again, but i already struggle with not having a life. don't want to screw up my progress that i've already made to try and have one.
