Oh, hell yes. Square-Enix has just released a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, the game that has convinced many of us not to trade in our dusty PSP just yet.

Details on this FFVII prequel have been relatively scarce thus far aside from some cool scans, so it's nice of Squenix to finally throw fans a bone, even if most of us don't speak Nihongo and have no idea what's being said. Showing off just how decent a PSP game can look, the trailer whets FF fans' appetites by showcasing plenty of FMV sequences throughout and a delicious peek at the battle system toward the end. It's the perfect way to add another car to our Final Fantasy hype train

Oh hell yes indeed. At least Zack looks like he has a personality and acts like a normal human being. Did I see him ... laughing?! Oh noes! And maybe that explains why Cloud-u had a boner for Aerith instead of Tifa: looks like some sort of kink in the garden.

Choo choo!

Actually sexually ambiguous characters more like culture... have you seen Babel some of the guys in Japan in that movie I had a tough time telling that they were actually dudes.
Whatever games looks sw33t! But i need to see more gameplay. It looks somewhat like KH but not quite as solid. I hope that it is at least as good as KH

Not knocking the game, just the Tetsuya Nomura-designed characters. Just personal preference, but I definitely enjoy the designs of FF XII over Nomura's designs...gameplay is key, though...if it turns out good, I might just have to re-buy a used PSP.

But that's the thing, Bilbo. Nomura's characters are pretty much the norm when it comes to character design that's popular in Japan. Sexual ambiguity in males seems to be pretty popular in everything from anime to boy bands.

I would disagree, Sexual ambiguity is not the norm in Japan today. Lets talk about four of the most popular anime series out today in Japan. Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Death Note. Now does Naruto, Ichigo, Luffy, or Ligth look feminine? No.

Males tend to look more feminine when created by a female, such as in Shojo anime.

This game looks amazing, but the thing that bothers me is the PSP factor. Just think about how much better they could make the game if it were on the PS2/PS3. Full dual-shock controller, big tv, surround sound, polish up the graphics, the whole shebang.

Where is the actual game here? Whenever I've seen a FF game, it just appears to be 90% cut scenes. Is there actually something about gameplay to warrant reams of expository clips?

ahh..sexually ambiguous characters. Squarenix, is there nothing your artists can't achieve RIGHT?

No, sexual ambiguity is no the natural norm. It's the hell-damned fad in Japan nowadays though. Natural norm is being of short stature and slender, slim or skinny.

Actually Light conforms very well to the feminine look. It doesn't have to be blatantly obvious to be one. Ruffy (hate "Luffy" Don't like it, bite me) on the other hand would require a lot make up and a good dress and wig to resemble a bit a girl.

Enough digression. I see something I'd feared. You're being again sucked in just by the FMVs. Who the HELL cares about FMVs?! Yeah, nice graphics as well, just hope it doesn't turn out into beautiful boringfest. They shot quite good with FFXII but considering FF repertory I won't hold up my breath.

i would argue that Naruto and Luffy are somewhat feminine, but then again, i'm acting like i actually like anime. the horror!

anyway, God Len, your argument in fatally flawed in fundamental ways. there's no denying the fact that machismo is not something that Japan is too keen on. a lot of this has to do with the fact that Japanese genes aren't exactly complimentary to body-building.

i'd still rather them look feminine than ugly and abrasive ala Gears of War.

naruto has sexy-no-jutsu... which troubles my mind just like Ramza did... Also, in the latest manga, Naruto's disiple... does a Malesexy-nojustsu... and its um the new guy over sasuke, that makes Sakura all horny.

Bleach, theres a couple of scenes that also shows a tad of male-on-male action, not sure if that counts for feminine.

@ Brandom.
The cloud like character is basicly the guy that cloud looked up to and learned everything from, and the person who hooked up cloud to get in soldier, cuz cloud sucked balls and couldnt make it. not to mention he is the guy that saved clouds life @ the price of his own :)

I would love for FF games to come with the option of keeping the Japanese voice acting and just having English subtitles. It's more like watching good anime, which FF is essentially anyway, with just a little bit of interactivity thrown in.

My memory may be a little fuzzy since it's so long since I played FFVII. But don't all the members of SOLDIER have the green Mako eyes?
It looked like Zack, Sephiroth and Cloudou all had blue eyes. Did I just imagine it?

Aside from that statement sounding far too much like the Summoner Trailer(or Dennis Leary's Horrors of D&D):

The Mako eyes thing I think is that they only get them green eyes when the Jenova within them gets all antsy. But I may be wrong.

@Gol Len

Kinda faulty logic your working with there. Naruto, One piece and Bleach all gain their huge popularity from the mere fact that they are long running Shonen anime. Shonen is almost always huge in japan, no matter what the characters look like. And while Ichigo and Naruto may not be pretty boys, guess what kind of characters usually follow them up, pretty boys (if not girls). The main characters always get a bit of popularity boost from being the main character... Those shows popularity only really proves that Pretty boy characters aren't the ONLY thing that counts, but it definatly plays a HUGE factor for the fanbase... as for Deathnote, well looking at Light, i'd say he'd classify as a pretty boy aswell.

Really, One piece may be the only anime/manga that doesn't have prettyboys for added appeal. That's all thanks to Oda's style which is a rather unconventional style compared to most other series, his pretty boys don't look much like pretty boys. One piece, probably the only proof that good story beats out bishi characters... now if only the rest of japan could learn the difference between "attractive" character design, and "appealing" design

The eyes are 'posed to be blue with green highlights whenever the mako energy starts to go nuts.

But yeah, blue with bits of green. Not completely green.

Am I the only one who doesn't care what happens before Final Fantasy 7? I really wish they could have made what happened afterwards a little more interesting. Then again, when I first played FF7 I was like 11. Now, years later the story for that game, somehow, makes less since and is not nearly as cool.

There's a clear difference between bishonen and effiminate. Look at Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. There's one character that IS effeminate, and he's clearly different from the others.

Historically, Japan honored strength. Dying in battle, for the sake of the Emperor, was the greatest honor a Japanese person could ever hope to achieve. This was the WWII and earlier mentality. I don't exactly call that "effeminate."

If anyone actually noticed the gameplay it looked lie a FF7 version of Kingdom Hearts. Maybe if they're fusing together FF12, 7, and then KH it may be interesting, but I'm not sure this is going to be that great. I'd also personally rather play it on the PSP since I don't wanna shove out 250$ just to play one damn game. Yes, whoever mentioned they should hopefully lower the price would get my attention.
