Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

It's been a good weekend for RPGs: Blue Dragon is getting a localized demo, Crisis Core is looking nice, and tri-Crescendo has released two new Trusty Bell Eternal Sonata clips.

The first clip is a teaser, setting the scene for the Eternal Sonata storyline. It showcases some landscape textures and the general art direction the game is going in. While the graphics may be underwhelming to some, you can see that they take full advantage of the cell-shading and tie in well with the theme of Sonata. In case you didn't know, the game is about Chopin's dying fever dreams -- you didn't expect it to be realistic, did you?

The video above starts off slow, but picks up at the end. I wonder why the cute girl with the parasol is such a pariah?

Make the jump for a battle clip and more top o' the line commentary.

This clip shows Polka (a.k.a. ParasolGirl) duking it out with some DragonQuest-style slime thing, called a Golby. The battle system looks fairly fluid and based on some sort of timing system. Notice that Polka's weapon is called 209_UnitedStates. Gotta get me one of those.

For all you jRPG fans out there, it looks like the time is ripe for an XBox 360 purchase -- Eternal Sonata looks promising, as do Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Hopefully, Too Human won't suck either.

The graphics look even better in motion than they do in those screenshots.

Polka's voice acting sounds like shit though. I do not want to hear that throughout the entire game.

When her attack options changed due to her surroundings (the shadow) this game jumped up a few levels in my book. If they really make use of the environment feature it would make for some really interesting battle elements.

Not gonna lie, I couldn't watch the first clip all the way through. The Winnie The Pooh comment seems right on.

I've never been a fan of the turn based style RPG's. There is just something very unnatural feeling about them.

I do like the graphics. It's something I would expect to see on the Wii, however, and not the 360

@brandan,

the extent of my classical music knowledge boils down to that deaf dude and a lot of heavy metal renditions of canon.

i'll definitely pick it up when it hits the bargain bins, otherwise the wallet rapers (aka guitar hero 2 / halo 3 legendary pack, 90+130wtf?) will have to tide me the rest of this year.

Finally, what gamers have been demanding: Japanese RPGs based on Chopin!

I've heard the game features a few of his pieces, but it's mostly original music.

I think the graphics are fine... it's the character animations that need some work. They're so stiff and robotic.

You know, some things read better than they sound. Cheesy RPG narration and dialogue can detract from the game experience. For this reason, I'm really hoping we get the Japanese audio track. Listening to the Japanese voices and reading the subtitles can change the experience (maybe for the better) than hearing it in your own native language. That, and I prefer all foreign media to be presented in their original languages. If it could be done with Enchanted Arms, it can be done with Eternal Sonata. I'm hoping those in charge of marketing will believe that including the Japanese audio track will add to the sales of the game.

On the plus side, this game is adorable. I'm anxiously awaiting it.

i can't believe i sat through that 3min piece of shit. with all the subtle, spaceous dialogue/action. gawd where's the conflict and intrigue?? although visually it was breaking the awesomity meter, i can NOT play a game where i'm a little adorable girl with a pink parasole fighting watermelons! but maybe this will get more little girls to play RPGs??

Isn't this fighting system just button mashing for 5 seconds? So it's real time fighting for one character at a time while their opponent just gets raped. If you get to a high enough level (or learn to hit the button fast enough) then you will never receive any damage. It seems like a step back from real-time AND turn-based fighting.

Golby seems to be the name of the currrency, not the monster.

I think you guys might be underestimating the graphics a bit. while they do look rather bland on a tinny gamevideos screen, I bet it looks immensely better on your HDTV

Simply put, if you dont like JRPG theres no reason for you to bitch and moan. Those of us who do enjoy them are likely to have fun playing this when it hits stateside.

I personally think these are the best graphics yet on the 360. You guys are crazy for thinking this looks anything but beautiful.

While I love Gears of War, I find it more of an achievement to make a game that literally looks like a cartoon being played out. Guess it's just more my style as I'm a huge animation fan.

And I rather like the voice acting.

Can't wait for this game!
