Too bad we stopped doing that two expansions in...
I booted up MTG, (just for some latenight duels, as is often my want - unaware the expansion was out) - was asked to apply an update - which upon completion signed me out of XBL - then asked me to sign in again. To stare at at black screen that couldn't be exited (via guide button , Y) and could only be solved by hard booting the console.
I then (upon reboot) - went to the Marketplace - downloaded the expansion, cleared my cache - then loaded up the game again - to go back to - update/signout/black screen of death.
Glad to hear it's fixed. I'll go try it out now!
Excellent game all round. That experience hasn't dampened my enthusiasm at all!
I thought this was out later in the month. BRB, I's got's some downloading to doooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
The avatar awards are the T-shirt (gotten by FULLY unlocking 3 decks) and a Magic deck prop (gotten by FULLY unlocking 6 decks.) The deck prop is you messing around with 5 cards signifying the 5 colors of Magic and then the dragon pops out of the red card and sweeps up the 5 cards your avatar had put on the ground.
Much like the original game and the first expansion, the boss deck from the new campaign is the only one not playable now, at least until DLC pack 3 comes out. It's Sorin Markov's vampire deck, and it seems to be the most powerful deck in the game now (my pro tip is to use the red/green warrior deck from DLC 1 against it.) Nicol Bolas deck is the third deck you unlock when you beat the new campaign. There are 3 new achievements (beat Markov the 2nd time, win a 3/4 player Live game, and play 8 lands in 1 turn; doable as one of the new decks is a red/white landfall based deck.)
The game had a lot of major changes hence why I guess there were problems with its implementation. Some of the changes were minor (the way the deck you've selected in deck manager is shown-text is blue, new loading screens with updated card art, the landfall deck having all extended art basic land cards, and the music is louder with the sound effects turned down.)
Other changes are major. First when you have so many lands of 1 color that the game stacks them (while untapped) on top of each other, you will now see a number that shows how many are in the stack. This text is small though, so I bet non-HDTV owners won't be able to see it (it's a little hard for me to see on a 32" HDTV set.) Host migration in multiplayer online games was already mentioned. Next when the AI (or other human players online) search for a card from their deck or target a card from their graveyard, the card searched for is shown on screen.
When multiple card effects are being played, the cards move to the graveyard MUCH more slowly so you can tell what effect just resolved. The game seems to move faster once you're in it, but the loading time for a match seems to be quite a bit longer. The AI has also been improved quite a bit. The AI will actually use its main phase 2 by playing cards then instead of ALWAYS doing it in main phase 1.
Finally the other paid DLC that came out today were 80 point ($1) unlock codes that allow you to completely unlock all the cards for the first 11 decks (8 from original game and the 3 from the first DLC) without having to actually win games playing with the decks.
After spending most of last night playing it - I came on to post my impressions - but you've pretty much covered it all!
Noticed the increased loading times - surely a byproduct of the new mechanics that weren't previously in there (Landfall for one). Hopefully this doesn't over time affect the game like the quarterly updates to Magic Online - so that the kernel gets so clogged the game becomes bug - rife. Maybe after 20 or so expnasions we'll see. Still this game seems much more stable than MTGO v.3 - and I'd be happy if a subscription service for the PC game was based around this build.
