New DS horror game is part Ghostbusters, part Where's Waldo photo

Dimple Entertainment's Miteha Ikenai (Don't Look) is said to be a portable horror game. With scribbling. Ooh, scary.

The upcoming summer Japanese release has two gameplay modes -- one where you get your gas station lottery card scratch on to uncover paranormal activity in photographs, and the other, Noroi's House mode, where you try to remove ghosts from a residence.

The photograph-scouring Shinrei Shashin mode sounds the most interesting. Players look to find spirits reflected in ghost photography and paint them out with their stylus. Siliconera says that this is done in a time attack style, giving you three minutes to find the ghosties. The other mode is played in a similar way, but players will use clues from dialogue and the story line to remove the curse.

I like this simple yet fun concept, though it doesn't sound very scary. Would this stylus ghostbusting action entertain you?

Hit the jump to see if you can find the "spirits" in example photographs.

Not at all interested. Never been a fan of hide and seek in video games.

Timed picture searches? This brings me back to playing Nude Picture Search on those bar-top arcade machines back in college.

I like the idea... but dies it seem like more and more DS games are just flash games that have been around for years?

This just makes me think of "screamer" pranks. Here's one. Watch out, it's scary/has sound. That scared the crap out of me the first time I saw it.

If you're lucky enough never to have seen one of these, you're given a picture to "find what's wrong", or a little video to watch, and then 30 seconds in a giant horrible face appears with a really loud scream. Ugh.

Anyway, if the game does a terrifying scream or something if you fail to find the ghosties, that would be cool. I can definitely see how that would build suspense. "gotta find ghost, gotta find ghost, gotta find OH SWEET JESUS" etc. Lose one of your lives or something. But then it might be too intense for me to play ...

An interesting concept but it kinda feels cheap knowing that those pics might be fakes just made for a video game.

I like Pixel Blue's idea to add to it.

Depends how much this retails for. I'm not sure I'd be willing to pay more than $15-20 though. Even then it's a hard press with all those little video machines they have in bars and resturants with essentially the same thing.

A very promising concept.

Also, I think lilyleon is a pretty cool guy, eh repeats the same message in every post and doesn't afraid of anything.

Neat concept, but for me it's going to turn out to be like one of those Magic Eye games that I can never get to work. GHOSTS? IN MY DS?

I require more information before I pass judgement.

For now, I'll just laugh at the phrase "DS horror game".

I'll be playing this... Currently playing Dementium:The Ward and that's a pretty decent horror-game on the DS :-)

SPOILERS...

The picture of the photographer is truely creepy to me. Just noticing those extra fingers surprised me.

There looks like an image on the ceiling of the tunnel.

That last image has a series of faces crawling up that tree. The first example one I can't seem to find the spirit.

This sounds like a good idea. I'd like to keep my eye on this one. :O)

The second picture, the black and white one, is the best.
The 'spirit' is to the right of the guys face. You can make out the nose, cheek and eyeline of the spirit in the reflection of the glass.

The third has the extra fingers on the guys right hand. The other three I can't make out any significant images. :P
