New Doom game could inspire movie sequel photo
#id

In case you missed it, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead announced that a new Doom game is in the works. But the Doom party doesn’t stop there apparently. In an interview with Kotaku, Hollenshead seemed to think that the upcoming Doom title will create enough “buzz” to warrant a Hollywood sequel.

We’ll see what happens when we get further along in development of the game and [when] there's more buzz and we share more about what the game will be about. As the buzz meter starts to go up, that may kind of kick start the guys over at Universal.

I’m glad Mr. Hollenshead is as hopeful as I am about a Doom movie sequel. The first film was epic, amazing, and fascinating. Very rarely does one witness the beautiful weaving of various plot arcs, nor the ease in which the writers of the movie navigated hot-button social issues. Oh, and the chainsaw! Has there ever been a better symbol of male-to-beast aggression and dominance?

[Thanks, Adam!]

Shame they already killed Dr. Carmack and turned him into an imp. Are we gonna get a Hollenstead cyberdemon in the sequel?

...with a 30 minutes fps boss battle in 3D?

For the love all that is holy, if they are going to make another crappy Doom movie, at least put some actual god damn demons in it and not some "oh they're just really aliens from Mars" bullcrap.

I just finished Doom3 this weekend and the movie was on TV afterwards. They seem so connected except the movie didn't have enough action.

The first movie was definitely worth the 5 bones I shelled out for it; anything that The Rock touches turns to gold!

...Sarcasm, surely?

I could use another one, but in the vein of a cheesy over the top action flick instead of a serious sci-fi monster movie.

I thought it was a really enjoyable brainless action movie

I don't understand the hate for the Doom movie. I really enjoyed it. I thought the characters were awesome. Portman, The Rock, Reaper, Destroyer, the hot doctor, even Pinky. The musical score was also top notch and the setting was pretty creepy. I guess the only thing I didn't like was the actual aliens themselves.

I consider it one of my favorite movies though and would LOVE a sequel.

Am I the only person alive that actually thought the first person part of the movie was a nice touch? What's with all the hate for the Doom movie, anyway? You knew what to expect when you walked in there. When was Doom ever about an epic story with lovable characters?

I enjoyed the Doom movie, and would definitely love to see a sequel (Hell On Earth, anyone?).

When I first saw a hint of a new Doom movie, I got hella excited. But then, the more I try to find any details, the more I see of what has to be a mistake; they all say "sequel".

The first movie was like the Indiana Jones episode on South Park, except in this case, id Software had a train ran on it by every employee at Universal. Seeing "sequel" is just telling me that everybody is lining back up behind id, but now it's two at a time.
