New Diablo 3 screens give a glimpse of user interface photo

The latest episode of Blizzcast is out, and along with it some new Diablo 3 screenshots that show off some exciting new details: the user interface. Also (take a deep breath), you can see the pants slot that's all shiny and new. Woo! There's a few more shots as well, which you can see in the gallery.

Blizzcast also features a Q & A session to answer fan questions with World of Warcraft's Tom Chilton, Diablo III's Jay Wilson, and StarCraft 2's Dustin Browder. You can actually check out the transcript of that here if you would prefer to read rather than listen.

Is it me, or do these screens look really dark? Especially looking at this particular set, I don't get the "Diablo 3 is too colorful" argument.

Looks very nice. Yeah, it will probably always remind me of WoW, but I don't give a shit. I think they did a good job with it.

This looks WoWish. As for the graphics. I prefer pixels than polygons. It makes a better contrast to reflect the environment and characters. The polygons in the game makes everything look soft and curvy. I hope the game doesn't anything like talents like in WoW. One thing I hope they fix, is the inventory grid. Good god, in Diablo 2 it becomes a fucking puzzle to make sure you use up every single square space.

I don't care what they say about the colors being... too colorful.

It's FUCKIN' SEXY!

Ya, I don't understand the "too colorful" sentiments either, but I do see the difference from Diablo 2. But as long as there are copious amounts of blood and gore, I don't mind the WoW teams art style. Things will go splat and skulls will crunch! RAWR!

You just don't notice the colors because you're not enough of a Blizzard fan. Blizz has been going downhill ever since Warcraft 3. Diablo 3, more like WoW2: Electric Boogaloo! Starcraft 2, more like Borecraft 4!

It does look like WoW. And, it is way more colorful than the past games, not that I care either way. Warcraft games were always cartoony, Diablo was always gritty and ugly, now D3 looks like 3/4-overhead WoW, I think thats what people are bitching about. >_>

It looks like it needs a hard outline or something on the characters, to distinguish them from the background when the action gets crazy. Or, maybe they already thought of that, and they think it looks purdier without for screenshots. <_>

Fucking weapons better all take up the same space on inventory (no more than 6), those 4x2 weapons in D2 were shit.

4x2 weapons and other odd shapes made sense though and had you prioritize what loot was worth keeping.

All I want to know is how much stuff fits in the inventory. I don't want to be stuck with 6 weapons to keep/trade :/

Ugh...Hate the bag concept.

I want my grid based puzzles of trying to figure out how to squeeze the most out of my inventory.

I second the grid-puzzle. It's part of what made Diablo unique.

As for my sentiments on the graphics, being a Diablo fan since 1 first came out on PC; it looks really good, and looks like a lot of fun. Apparently, CHANGE IS BAD! GRAWR!

Very WoWy. Not that that's a bad thing, WoW has the best interface of any MMO I've ever played.

Personally I won't pass judgement on the game until it is in my hands. Other than that, looking forward to it. I do agree that it's looking more and more like WoW, but WoW did take some of those things from D2. The talent tree is a good example of something WoW took from D2.

I think you're confused. People are saying that it does not look like traditional Diablo and looks more like the new WoW-y direction Blizzard is taking.

The few gamers who don't play WoW (and therefore hate it) don't like the change in direction; aka don't like WoW seeping into mainstream games.

The class tree is damn near identical to the one used in WOW.
ajaxender's Avatar
ajaxender at 03/31/2009 18:48
Looks a bit WoW-y in design, but it does not look like utter shit, unlike WoW. So who really cares.

Also lol at Corak - the tree looks the same because WoW's is near identical to Diablo 2's. I dont play WoW, im assuming that because that tree looks near identical to D2's. Blizzard may tend to sit on the safe side of the innovation line, but on the other hand, if it isnt broke dont fix it.

lol You people crack me up... Where do you think they got a lot of the material for WoW? (Hint: it's a game named after the Lord of all Lies)
Even some of the spells/skills have the same names.

Im am honestly so pissed at all these trolls writing about how this looks like WoW. First of all, it does not look like wow. Everyone that has every played diablo 2 knows that there was plenty of colour. You all seem to forget the snow of act 5 and the bright sand and blue skies of act 2. I think it's fucking unfair to blizzard that you trolls keep on saying it.
Secondly, WoW does A FUCK LOAD of game mechanics RIGHT. I don't have a problem with borrowing
rbrooks's Avatar
rbrooks at 03/31/2009 22:15
things that are done well from wow. DIablo 2 wasn't the perfect game by any means. Lvling was boring, the graphics sucked at the time, inventory system was trash, PvP system was trash. Trading was trash, buying potions was trash. The economy in it was a fucking JOKE. I can go on and on... not to mention one of the biggest faults, which is the skills themselves...you would load up all skills into 5 things, and that was poorly done.

IN order to fix these problems, you HAVE to borrow from WOW because it fixes all those problems. The inventory, the PvP, trading, lack of potions, economy not being bullshit, and most importantly the skill trees were crafted much better to avoid 1 or 2 skill spamming.

Did they already say no to a 360 version? I'd totally FAP if they decided to do that and release a totally compatible mouse/keyboard for the 360 that would also work for FPS's..

nah that'd just be too sick. for some reason companies aren't allowed to do really sick things.

*sigh*

Some of us are Blizzard fans, don't mind change, and are saying that borrowing from WoW is a good thing. Believe me, if people actually took the time to play WoW, instead of mocking it, they would like it.

Borrowing from the most successful game of all time is a no-brainier; you don't need to get worked up explaining it :D
