Home #Xbox 360

Maxconsole has a couple of videos on a new adapter that lets you use the HDMI inputs on that fancy new HDTV you've just purchased with your vintage, first generation HDMI-less Xbox 360.

The XCM 1080i HDMI is a disc-shaped device that connects to the first generation Xbox 360's A/V port. The device does all the work, sending an HDMI-ready signal out through a standard HDMI cable right into your HDTV. It also connects to the older HD standard DVI input by way of a cable-end adapter, and RCA stereo audio outputs are included for that standard (HDMI pipes audio and video over one cable).

There will be some that say that most HD sets have component video inputs, which also allow a 1080i resolution, but this device is a good problem solver for sets that don't.

No price or purchase details are listed other than a note that this product will be available from retailers as of next week.

the standard component cable from microsoft will output a 1080i signal anyway. It's the point, component is a true signal. the only difference between that and hdmi is that with hdmi you can do 1080p which is such a minute difference its not worth paying the money (plus it can output audio as well). So theres really no reason to drop the 70 bucks on an hdmi and probably 50-100 on this converter.

Just to let you guys know

Also, do people think it will it offer the same quality picture if i use the DVI cable adapter it mentions? or will i be sacrificing a bit of awesomeness?

Wait, does this upscape DVDs so they don't look grainy like through component?

If it wasn't for the obligatory camera zooms that video wouldn't have been the same.

Kif: I wouldn't think so. Any upscaling of normal DVDs will be done by the 360 itself. Doesn't matter what cable you connect it with. [I'm not sure if the 360 upscales or not, but I'm thinking not].

Scoff if you will, but depending on the price of this, it could be ideal for my set up. My tv has two hdmi ports, but only one component. At the moment, I have to use composite for my wii so that my 360 can actually be hd. Colour me interested in this.

Hm, well at least there's an option for early adopters.

I thought 1st-gen 360's only have a analog out via the ATI video card (the digital out is disabled). Does this use the digital path of the video card or is it still the analog except converted to digital HDMI? If that's the case - this isn't worth it...

Too bad they couldn't come up with something that would give true 1080p function to a 1st gen 360. It will still be helpful to those that don't have enough connection on their HD monitor or tv.

Do not trust these products, A lot of them are faulty and overheat. Maxconsole is owned by divineo so the man who runs the site must plug there products, be advised.

The only question in my mind is whether it uses the VGA signal or the Component signal from the 360.

If it uses the VGA signal, it will be able to upscale DVDs, so it's useful. If not, why the heck does this device exist?

this product is exactly what I need for the short term. Something on my TV is borked and hd component signals get completely screwed up from any device. It seems to work fine with 480p for some reason though...

With this, I'll be able to run 720p properly for under $80... repairing the TV would probably cost me around $200. It needs to be fixed eventually, but this means I can put my money towards better uses... like Half Life 2's Orange Box

I'm glad they engineered this product to match the scale of the 360 itself. Otherwise, it might just looks silly.

Still, could be a bit bigger.

HAHAHAH "NEWB?" parade.
...
I plan on buying a 360 w/ HDMI slot, so I really don't have that much to add. I think Los Milty hit the nail on the head though.

This is only going to make the signal quality slightly worse. It would be like taking a tape and recording it with your computer and burning it onto a cd. It will not make anything better, this is just a me too.

well considering its converting an analog signal into a digital signal its not going to be cheap... so just spend the extra monies and trade you stuff up...

The 360 will not upscale a DVD through the component cables because of HDCP currently the only way to view upscaled DVDs is either through HDMI if you have it, or through VGA using the accessory cable. It seems like with this device will get you around that roadblock. I still would like to hear more about how it works though, if it is taking the digital signal out of the av port then the quality should be great if not, then there there could be issues. We'll see once it's for sale.

Um this is fine and dandy but the signal will be no better than your analogue signal. The device is nothing but and analogue to digital signal converter. If anything you'll get a worse image. This is only really useful for someone who needs to free up some component ports on their TV or are from the future and their TV doesn't actually have component ports anymore.
