New details pop up on Tales of Vesperia PS3 content photo

Any Takes fans out there are already probably well aware (and perhaps even a bit pissed off) to hear that Tales of Vesperia is coming to the PS3 with a whole bunch on new content. We got more information on that content today from PSX Extreme, and if you were a fan of the 360 version, you're probably going to want this one. Here's the details:

  • A new playable character
  • more Artes and skills
  • more chances to play Flynn
  • new voiceovers
  • new Giganto monster
  • new dungeon called "Inner Sanctum of the Ester"
  • connectivity with the PSP for Tales of Vs
Connecting with Tales of Vs. will apparently unlock new costumes and challenges. I grabbed a used copy of Vesperia and meant to get on it, but now knowing this is coming, I may wait and buy this version instead, which is slated to come out later this year. If you bought the 360 version, would you consider this one because of all the new content?

I'm buying it (who's shocked).

I've enjoyed a few of the "Tales..." games in my day but I haven't played any in a few years.

Perhaps this will be the game to get me back into the series.

I felt like the game was too cliche to be enjoyable, so the addition of more... stuff doesn't seem like that much of a bonus. To be honest, I regret getting the game in the first place.

@DinnertimeNinja I don't think this is the one to get anyone 'back' into the series, but consider my bias above. If you played the Tales of Destiny entries on the PSX, that's basically as far as the series evolved, as far as I'm concerned. But if you can get past the cliche, and some of the questionable voice acting, it would be a good purchase if you can find at say $40 or less.

The hasn't come out in Europe yet for the 360.
And Atari will never confirm if the PS3 version is coming to. I already have two Eternal Sonata(s) I don't need yet another copy of (almost) the same game again.

I was a huge fan of Symphonia, so I really wanted this. It is a week away from being released in the UK, and I've been looking forward to it since it was in America last year. Imagine how annoyed I am now that I know I cant get the complete version, after waiting six months for it to finally come out!

It hasn't even been given the chance to be cheap, deal of the week stuff over here, before an upgrade is due. I'll probably stake out for it longer, and I'll get the PS3 one now..

I think Tales fans are probably more pissed off that Vesperia was ever Xbox exclusive as the series has always been on Nintendo and Sony systems in the past.

You're referring to Xbox fans. There's a difference.

Yeah considering that this is just coming out in the UK on the 360 I think I can wait another year for the PS3 version.

PS3's region free, so you can always import that one.

If it comes out Stateside, hell yes. Actually, who am I kidding? I'm going to import it regardless.

@pedrovay2003

Since Sony ordered a "cease and desist" order to import sites that led to one of the major site to shut down. No store in the US delivers to Europe games for any Sony console.

ToV still isn't even confirmed to be coming to the US on PS3. I honestly doubt that it will. Namco is pretty dumb and often overlooks titles that could do very well (Tales of Rebirth, either PSP or PS2, Tales of Symphonia PS2, Tales of Destiny Remake, Tales of Eternia PSP, any DS Tales game) and instead usually just gives us the garbage (Tales of the World).

I was gonna buy this for 360, but I guess I should wait and get it on PS3 now.

Despite reading so much bad press about this game, I still want it.

It's probably going to be like the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata, three times the price (because of how long the 360 version has been out and now on sale) and no trophies.

I would gladly pick the game up a second time if it ever comes out over here.

EggmaniMN: Is it really a dumb move not to bring over some that probably won't make that much money?

yes, trophies are no longer optional, they have to include then now.

I am acutally currently playing through it right now on my 360 (Damn Fallout took forever to finish), and as much as I am enjoying the game, I don't think I'd buy it again, only for that.

I don't really think I care about the new artes, since its hard enough to manage the ones I already have and I'm only about halfway through the game (from what I've heard).

I am curious as to how the new character will be incorporated. The story seems complete enough with the current character list, so I wonder if any plotline changes will be introduced. And tthey could have at least picked a better character than another little kid. We already have one in the game. I didn't need the complete Palom/Porom ripoff that exists in every JRPG.

New Giganto monster and Dungeon could be interesting, but def not worth a repurchase. I'd buy it as DLC.

So I guess all things considered, not really a "must buy".

Nope, because having bought it for the 360 months ago for the full $60, playing through it, and enjoying it, I don't want to support the kind of backwards dickkery that's going on here. They should offer this stuff as free DLC for the 360 owners.

Not all of them, Disgaea 3 and Eternal Sonata came out in Europe this year and they don't have trophies. It's a matter of Namco saying to Sony that Tales of Vesperia does not have trophies because it was made pre '09

This is a day one purchase for me. Tales of Vesperia is one of my favorite RPGs.

A voice actor was been quoted saying the new script for all of the new dialogue is almost as long as what they had to record for the original version! It really seems it will be fully voiced.

@Miguerlcar808
Since its being released in September 2009 in Japan, I think it will have trophy support. Also, it is being released in Europe in a few days. It is showing up on sites like ABGX.

Eternal Sonata PS3 came out here, and that did worse sales wise & critically on 360.

I've played most of the Tales games and will for certain buy this one for the PS3. I was unhappy that it wasn't available except on the RROD machine.
Plus I don't care for DLC so it should be a good purchase.
I liked the story and characters in Legendia best and am playing through the Character quests again.
This game should rock on the PS3! Even better if it's fully voiced!

Yes, as the original release for those games and this was pre-trophy cut-off, they may make that excuse again. Kind of baffling as surely with Eternal Sonata too they could have hooked onto the ahcievements to make the trophies. Disgaea 3 has trophies, but only in Japan. Europe doesn't even have any Disgaea 3 DLC yet.

Still, I'd much rather get a PS3 version with more content and play-time with a quieter fan xD

It's a kick in the nuts if it comes stateside, I mean, I spent over 130 hours on the 360 version and I would have to play its awesomeness again.

@coffeesash : Install it. It makes the fan shut up.
