Remember when we shared the good news that Club Nintendo would finally be coming to the US? We didn't have many details about our version of the club at that time, but some new ones have come out of Nintendo recently.
MTV Multiplayer hit up Nintendo's VP of sales, Cammie Dunnaway, for details. She says that the service would be more like the Japanese version than the European one.
"When you purchase a Nintendo product, you go on and you say that you’ve purchased a Nintendo product, you get points for that,” Dunaway said. “You also get points for filling out surveys to talk about your experience with the product. You actually get points before you purchase, if you indicate an interest in purchasing… So it really helps us to gauge marketplace demand. As you collect points — these are actually gold coins — you’re able to trade them in for real merchandise.”
Hot. While they're still figuring out what the goodies will be, it seems that they will be more like the Japanese awards, including items that were sold in Japan. Of course, new items for the North American market will also be included.
Here's the best news: “We will launch before the end of the holiday…They are working 24-7 to get this thing done.”

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Same thought. I registered a bunch of games...basically for the sake of them seeing that I bought 'em. Would be nice for them to go back and grant me points for those purchases.
I want new stuff.
Whoops. optimism crept into that comment. It won't happen again.
It's nice to see all the stuff you'll get is mario-related. you know.. for all the mario-unrelated games you'd have to purchase.
New Super Mario Bros. on DS.
Too late Nintendo. Atleast for me.
Maybe I'm asking for too much, but I want to sit on my couch and play with a controller I don't have to look at. Which is why I mentioned the "console" qualifier
New Super Mario Bros was a great first step, but imagine if the mario galaxy budget went to a 2d platformer for you tv.
I want the game and watch game!
It kind sucks since the super famicom don't have concave impressions in the Y and X buttons.
All the buttons are raised like the b and a buttons.
so they better make the USA version like the real SNES contoler since it is far better.
While it's exciting for a pack rat like me that kept all his DS/Wii game codes without submitting them, I just hope the merchandise is a little more exciting than a controller or some games.
Step 1: "Hi! I want to buy Elite Beat agents, because it looks really fucking awesome! My name is Bill!"
Step 2: "Hey I am taking out 15 bucks to buy Elite Beat Agents because it still looks really fucking awesome! My name is Bill!"
Step 3: "Hi, Nintendo of America? My name is Bill, I wanted to say that Elite Beat Agents is fucking awesome. I gotta remind youmy name is Bill, bye."
Though I would probably take a Wii-TV remote, like the one Lemon has.
Wired.com: Tell me about Club Nintendo. You made a small announcement about this — can you share any more details?
Dunaway: No more details. We’re still working out what all the prizes are going to be. We’d love to hear ideas from the fanbase about what kind of things they’d like to see included in Club Nintendo. You will be able to take over some of the points that you have in your current My Nintendo account. It won’t necessarily be all titles, but some Wii and DS titles. We want people to be able to start off with some points. And it’s going to work similar to the way it works in Japan and Europe. Where you get credit for purchasing games and filling out surveys, credit for indicating advance interest in titles ... those same features.
