New details on The Princess Bride game from the dev team photo

The Princess Bride game surely has fans of the classic film wondering if it's going to be a fun gaming experience or end up shaming the near-perfect film. Thanks to a new G4 interview, we have some information direct from the developers mouths about the game world, the target demographic, and how many times we may hear the word "inconceivable."

In the interview one developer says that they will be using "sound-alikes" for the voices, which does drop my spirits a bit as some of those characters were unforgettable for me because of their voices. He also mentions working on possible involvement of the original cast however, so I won't let my hopes fall just yet.

The Princess Bride will be available in Spring of 2008 for PC and is available for preorder now at the official site.

What genre is it? How does it play?

I guess you would have to use "sound-alikes" for someone like, say... Andre the Giant.... who is godlike by the way....

Andre is god

No freaking way! best movie ever. They should have a rhyming game and stuff. And you should be able to play as Inigo Montoya but have to go through like 50 dialog trees of "My name is Inigo Montoya you killed my father prepare to die," before you get to fight. Anyone else here read the book?

There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, it would be a pity to damage yours.

The book is so much like the movie it's scary. It's the way all adaptations should be done.

I may buy this for my girlfriend to try and get her into gaming. She loves that movie (I myself am not much of a fan). Hmm... could be the beginning of a wonderful new hobby of hers...

The book was great. The book ending made me a bit sad but it was a nice touch. I also like Inigo's full story.

I do not think this means what you think it means.

Inigo Montoya: You seem a decent fellow... I hate to kill you.
Man in Black: You seem a decent fellow... I hate to die.

Yeah, the book doesn't get enough love. The movie was classic, but the book was epic. Just give reading a chance.

"I could throw this rock at your head."

I hate to say it, but this game is insta-fail. No original voices (RIP Andre the Giant), a half-assed cartoon style, and lack of original writers are the ingredients of dead cash cow milking lameness. The only way this game could redeem itself is if it turned out with a sort of Monkey Island style. I'm a big fan of the movie too.

Vizzini: "You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...(dies)"

Prince Humperdink: "Surrender"
Westley: "You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept."

I agree this game is an instant fail. Has little chance of living up to the movie

Okay, a soundalike for Andre the Giant's character I can understand, as they haven't quite perfected reanimating the dead to do voicework yet... But I'm pretty sure most of the other actors are still alive (and that, unlike the cake, is no lie!) Especially Wallace 'Vizzini' Shawn, so, WTF?

I want this game to be good sooo bad, but man, I don't see how it will be.

The trailer makes it seem like the target audience is a bit young, and the pre-order price is $16. Yeah, I'm not expecting much from this.

On the other hand, the cell shading looks nice.

I may have to cry about this. The "sound-alike" at the end of the trailer made my ears bleed.

I've been looking for a copy of the book, both the S. Morgenstern original or the William Goldman "good bits" edition, but I have found neither. I will reignite the search for the greatest love story ever told.

I mean that. It really is. Romeo and Juliet have nothing on Westley and Buttercup.

There is another company doing board/card games, I believe the Licensing Letter said Toy Vault, but Im not 100% sure. They seem to do a decent job with other old movies, lets hope they do a better job than this instance fail video game.
