New console patch for Dead Island bumps the level cap photo

Techland has issued a patch for the console versions of Dead Island which should be live by the time you read this post. If it's a level cap, someone's inevitably going to want it raised; players can now progress up to level 60, assuming the desire to raise stats flows through their veins.

Some of the other highlights include quest/reward fixes, improved network stability and performance in co-op play, instant item pick-ups, no more weapon crates lacking rewards, additional blueprints for weapon mods, and more. Sounds like quite a bit of welcome improvements.

New patch for consoles [Dead Island Blog via Joystiq]

Gameplay improvements

  • Level cap raised to 60
  • New blueprints for weapon mods added
  • Infected damage reduced
  • Infected no longer interrupt player attacks
  • A series of improvements to subsequent playthroughs implemented:
    quest XP rewards adjusted;
    XP rewards for challenges adjusted;
    in subsequent playthroughs XP is awarded for all quests completed in co-op
  • Purna’s ammo carrying capacity increased by 50%
  • Character state from a save game can now be loaded when using the Start from Chapter option
  • New balancing option added: enemy levels can now be adjusted independently for each co-op player
  • Players respawn with more health
  • Picklock skill level required to open a lock is now clearly indicated
  • Improved rewards in weapon crates
  • All weapon crates now contain rewards
  • Kick ability balanced, now requires stamina
  • Items can now be picked up instantly; this is reflected in adjusted animations

Fixes and interface improvements

  • Fix: players are no longer left without a weapon after dropping the equipped item and healing with a medkit.
  • Fix: equipped items no longer swap mysteriously after drinking an energy drink
  • Tweak: healing with medkits from inventory works better, makes smarter choices of medkits
  • Fix: loot from dead enemies is now always identical for all co-op players
  • Fix: Purna no longer finishes her Fury with fists equipped
  • Fix: map tracking after death
  • Fix: zone info in the quarantine zone (City of Moresby)
  • Tweak: respawn point selection is now smarter

General

  • Improved stability and network performance in co-op
  • Quest and reward fixes implemented

All the updates to major gameplay elements are making this sound like an MMO- not a bad thing imo!

Some things seem like a problem like kicks now requiring stamina but overall I'm really impressed with the post release support, even if this patch was a little while coming.

Any word on whether or not the throw-attack weapon dupe trick still works? If they removed that I will definitly put off the update for a little while.

Item Duping is still in? Sweet!

Doesn't look like they fixed the item duplication glitch, eh? Well, that or they didn't mention it. That would make sense... after all, all you need to do to exploit a fixed glitch is delete your cache and play online so it would be best not to highlight a "good" glitch that you're fixing.

So I think the item dupe glitch was already fixed but you can still dupe melee weapons (not guns or throwables) by using the throw-drop technique still.

Sick! I'm gonna update and enjoy some this before Skyrim comes on Friday. Very interested and excited about second playthrough adjustments and gameplay mechanics like those fuckin infected.

Don't patches have to be sold with DLC on Xbox 360?

@horseflesh

only if they contain stuff that is usually sold as DLC like maps.

to bad they cant improve the actual game itself. i got so bored of this so fast just like borderlands. as much as i like shooters and open world games. they just dont seem to fit together as far as im concerned. i like open world games where i can screw around how i see fit. this game is nothing but fetch quests with not much else to do. oh well i did have fun with it for about 10-15 hours, but i just didnt feel like it was going anywhere. so i didnt bother finishing it.

also 1 thing i hated, cant tell if its what they fixed in here. is if you use a med kit and the try to attack it keeps using med kits. so being attacked while using one then tryo to defend yourself you just keep wasting med kits instead of attacking.

also raining level caps is the dumbest thing ever, why not just make games that you can level up to 99 from the beginning. why are they ever capped in the first place?

Nice. Glad they're continuing support for DI but man that took awhile and wasn't the Arena suppose to be out some time ago? I'd really like to go try it, but it's not like I'm going to go back to DI now that Skyrim is out.
