The ever-delayed three year RTS project Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars seems to finally be headed our way at the end of March. C&C 3 promises to usher in the next visual leap in RTS, just as Warcraft 3 did a few years back -- permanently raising the bar for 3D RTS with its insanely detailed environments and character models. In my mind, this game represents the next big leap.

The game is also slated for the Xbox 360; an odd choice considering that complex RTS games are best played with a keyboard for the purpose of macros and quick multitasking. The solution? A configurable sidebar that lets you command your units. We're looking forward to the final build to see if it actually works. We hope so -- check out the amazing graphics in the screenshots below.

This beckons an age old debate ... can RTS ever really get any better than StarCraft?

Only this would probably alienate the "Everyone has a PC crowd". How much do I need to spend to get all these "ultra realistic" graphics?

This game could be cool. I like the C&C games but not Generals so much. I shall keep an eye out. But at this point Supreme Commander is where it is at

I wonder who'll get best RTS of 2007, this or Supreme Commander. They'll be clashing epicly.

Starcraft and Warcraft are ghey, so... the answer is yes.

I'm so excited about these games but not so excited that I'm too poor of a gamer to afford all the hardware required to run them...

I think Supreme Commander will win the best RTS just because Total Anihilation was amazing but I dont really like how long its going to take to move your men across the map...

Supreme Commander will probably get more media cover, but I'm glad to see C&C return to its roots with the return to more classic gameplay and features. It's like C&C: Tiberian Dawn with kick-ass graphics! :)

Hrm...personally I am far more interested in SupCom than in C&C. It's just that the new C&C seems to be a clone of the old games-not much innovation here, only shinier graphics. I am planning on getting both of them, regardless of that though.

I've always been an RTS fan, but never liked C&C. However, this running on 360 caught my interest.

So I tried LOTR:BFME II's demo (one hell of an acronym, no?) because it's by the same developers and runs under the same engine. The controls work surprisingly well - with a few quirks - and I hope companies aside from EA adapt this system so I can play RTS games without needing an insanely powerful rig.

SupComm on 360 == badass.

That acronym is as long as the name of a Coheed and Cambria (C&C, lawl) CD.

I'm really interested in both, as I like to consider myself an RTS sage. But if I had to pick one, I would choose SC, because it's less similar to previous games.
