New characters revealed for KOF Sky Stage photo

The official blog for SNK's upcoming arcade title King of Fighters: Sky Stage was updated today, unveiling two new characters. If you haven't already solved this great mystery by looking at the picture above, they are Iori and Kula. (Yay Kula!)

The games goes on location test this weekend in Akihabara, and Iori and the new blog post says Iori and Kula will be playable. Andriasang reports that these two will take a bit more getting used to than the previously revealed Athena and Kyo, who are supposedly pretty easy to use.

You can check out a few screenshots of Kula and Iori in action below. Who else would you guys like to see join the roster for this weird shmup/fighter mash-up?

Some deep and forgotten pat of me wants this to come out. It's the peanutbutter and choclate combination of two of my favorite gaming genres.

It'll probably get higher scores than KOF XII. I'll be there.

Huh, a KoF shmup. Who would have thought? That's kind of cool though.

What's with fighting games being re-released within a year of the original release?

Iori AND Kula? F'en Awesome! They are, by far, my favorite KOF characters! Thank you, SNK!

Silly game is a bit silly. Still, B Jenet would be fun to see. Maybe she could have a special move called Rolling Thunder! (like in Garou)

No Mai no Buy!

I kid. I love KoF and I love shmups. I'm all over this.

@Magnalon - In my experience, very few genres get consistently cruddier scores (and more ignorant writeups..."it's too short! unlimited continues make it too easy!" etc.) from modern reviewers than the shooter does. If there's any way that the franchise's name could be dragged any further through the dirt (regardless of the game's actual quality), it's via this game.

Anyway, I'd like to see Chin return in his previous incarnation, breathing fire, whacking things with his gourd and generally being goofy (heck, just making him float around in the air would be funny enough).

@Bullet

True; I was half joking. I hope that this game flies under the radar for sites like Kotaku, and only the grassroots blogs with true, capable gamers review it.
