New Captain Rainbow characters revealed: Not-so-little Mac and Takamaru

One of the many things that sucked about NoA'a presentation at E3 '08 was the complete and utter lack of Captain Rainbow footage. In case you missed Chad's previous coverage of the game, here's a quick recap. Captain Rainbow is a television super hero who's alter ego is a nerdy looking guy who loves flowered print shirts. He wanders an island populated by washed up Nintendo game characters like a man voiced Birdo and the guy from NES Golf (who may or may not be Mario) and tries to help them not hate life. Imagine a Smash Bros. "lifestyle" RPG that teeters on "Maximum Risky", and you're half way to understanding Captain Rainbow (which is farther than most people will ever get).

Newly revealed to appear in the game are Little Mac, who has since gone the way of Violet Beauregard, and Takamaru, the protagonist of a totally obscure Famicom Disk System game.

Hit the jump of a second video of the game, this time depicting Fat Mac chatting it up about the Birdo thing.

Thanks Power-Glove!

Maximum Risky is kinda a Kotaku thing. I'm gonna have to call you out on that.

I meant to say "Little Mac really LET himself go". That was a typo, not a bad pun.

Nintendo has officially gone batshit insane.

Conversely, you can call this Segagaga with Nintendo characters.
Oh Nintendo, Sega steals your good ideas and you steal their obscure ones.
Do you hear that Nintendo? Steal Shenmue and we'll call it even for Sonic's Master Sword exploits.

Why does it sound like the audio was recorded through a can and a string?

@Genmo
They were trying for the whole "rejected 50's TV" feeling to put it in perspective for newcomers that these Nintendo characters are OLD.

Little Mac has obviously not been using Wii Fit.

Not on my DO WANT list, but thats mainly because that game will never see the light of day in the states.

I'll keep my fingers crossed though, if theres anything that will get me to dust off my lil wite paperweight its captain rainbow.

Wait a minute, what web site is this? All this time they've been telling that Destructoid is just Yiddish for Kotaku. That's the only way they got me to work here.

I guess this will be my last post ever. Good Bye everybody.

Was it too soon, Chee?

I'm still grieving Ron's leaving us for the big "K" as well, but just like with 911, you got to start laughing so you can stop crying.

Or maybe the joke just sucked.

Definitely keeping at least one eye on this game at all times. I might not buy it at full price when it eventually comes to North America (fucking bothers me when people talk about the US release date when there are at least two countries that matter on the continent) but I'm anticipating it.

Can Captain Rainbow save us from casual games?

He'll be a real super-hero if he does.
