Earlier this afternoon, publisher Activision confirmed that another title in the Call of Duty franchise is slated for release this year -- holiday, to be somewhat exact.
No substantial details were given during the recent earnings call, but we did learn that the publisher believes the Call of Duty user base will continue to grow through sales of the new title, map packs, and a splash of marketing for older titles.
"... this holiday, as we eluded earlier, we plan to release a new Call of Duty game," Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith said. "We expect that the global Call of Duty user base will continue to grow driven by expected high attach rates, and news sales of hardware, and new downloadable map packs which should continue to keep current players engaged while attracting new consumers to the brand."
Activision is keeping sales expectations in check -- it doesn't believe this latest entry in the series will do as well as Infinity Ward's last, but it still maintains it'll be "another big and exciting year for the franchise." So, to Vietnam we go, right?

Its not funny anymore, stop milking franchises. Better yet, stop whoring out Infinity Wards franchise by letting Treyarch put the "Call of Duty" name on their next abortion.

Also on note of the subject, I'm done with COD:MW2 if the latest entry is any example of how they are doing it these days. LOTS of bugs and glitches rather than polish, I'm totally over the whole franchise.
I originally though IW could do no wrong but I see clearly now that they sold out big time, putting out more gimmicks than a snake oil salesman than even Treyarch was willing to do. Like they had to trump them in the first place, more isn't always better. I prefer quality and I'll be waiting for it from someone else this year.
I hope it flops.

Oddly enough, I used to think CoD4 rocked. I hate to be all cliche but I've grown up, and it seems all the folks playing games like Cod4 and Halo and the likes either never grew up, or are teens.
Then again, maybe I'm just a ROW ROW, FIGHT THA POWA! kinda' guy too, and simply don't like it because it's popular.
Doubt it though.
I will consider buying it if it is not WW2.
I will buy it if it comes with cool stuff.
Or, if it is set in an unexpected location. Like..SPACE. Call of Astronautwarfareduty. Package it with a spacewarfarehelmetdevice and I'll be set. Video gaems needz moar space marines.

Not to get all fanboy on you, but have you even really played Halo 3 multiplayer? Sure it doesn't have any destructable environments like your girl Battlefield, but nor is it "shallow fast paced gameplay" like you describe. Sure, you can play it that way, you just won't do any good.
Yes, I have. Halo 3 is boring. I bought it and played it some and then sold it to some kid at work for $30, lol.
That said split screen is still wicked stupid fun. I can not stress how disappointed I get when any FPS doesn't have split screen. I don't know if it's right to say Halo spoiled me or what but it did something.
