I don't understand why take out a feature so late in the fucking game. It can't be costing them that much more. And the fucking thing is the same price as before. Take out the fossilware CD soundtrack and put back gamecube support.
No its not a issue, but if people think it is, than just go buy a Wii now. You can get a NSMB:Wii Bundle right now, for the same exact price, so if you want the GC backwards compatibility, than just go get it!
Yeah, it sort of sucks to have fewer options than before, but the big draw of backwards compatibility is that you can play games on your new system even if it doesn't have many of its own games out yet. I'm still playing DS games on my 3DS, but I am no longer playing PS2 games on my PS3 or GameCube games on my Wii. They have their own games now!
Is it possible that the GC hardware was related to hacking exploits?
Shows that Nintendo is in trouble. It is sad that the Wii ended up like this, it had sooo much promise but Nintendo didn't take the lead and show us what could be done. Third parties did more unique things with it like Red Steel 2, the best Nintendo did was a glorified tech demo in Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Everything else could have been easily played on GAMECUBE.
what benefit can they have reaped from this? does it load games faster? does it load the OS faster?
I'm still a bit confused about that. I know Dale mentioned that in a blog yesterday, but when I checked at the NOE website, they never mentioned anything about the new model lacking Wi-Fi, only Gamecube support.
So yeah, I'll be grabbing this...
I don't really see why Nintendo would cut such a central feature to their platforms this late in the game, but I'll give them credit for supporting it as long as they have given the competition's pathetic efforts.
And it seems to apply only to this bundle and I have a perfectly functional Wii now so I'm not affected by the change.
Still dumb they're dropping the feature, though.
This is silly taking away a key feature and not docking the price?
Ten bucks says that Nintendo will follow suit in making the Gamecube games downloadable on the WiiU, and that they won't up convert the textures like the Dolphin emulator can do.
Stupid to drop the Gamecube functionality. Even though the Gamecube didn't do well by any means, it at least had some VERY good games, retarded to cut that out of it.
Regular Wii: Can be vertical or horizontal, can play Gamecube stuff
New Wii: Can only be horizontal, can't play Gamecube stuff
But having one console that can play more games is ideal.
But that soundtrack...and it's Black....oh lord...
Why take out the BC? Why?
Is it a hardware issue? Is the reason theyre doing this so they can take out the gamecube Ports and memory card slot to reduce costs? Microsoft figured out how to let you play original xbox games with the 360 controller and save to the internal memory. Why can't nintendo figure it out?
2001 - 2011
R.I.P.
And to those of you saying this is an issue...
How many people do you think are out there that want a backwards compatible Wii that don't own a backwards compatible Wii?
Seriously people, the last Gamecube game has been out of print for 5 years. Anyone willing to track down some of these games can track down a Gamecube.
So essentially Nintendo is banking on everyone paying the exact same price for a lesser piece of hardware, just because people don't look into it very much and Nintendo can get away with it.
Dude, every company does this. They reduce the cost of manufacturing while keeping the cost the same, even removing features people don't use.
And that's the key phrase here: "features people don't use".
People no longer buy a Wii for BC.
If Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo could, they would charge you a Million Dollars every time you turn their systems on.
...and if you DO place it vertically IT WILL FUCKING EXPLODE!!!
Its stupid, please stop.
You're missing the point here. If it's the exact same price and you have a choice between two models, one with and one without BC, what the hell is the incentive or purpose behind the lesser model? You're going to willingly pay the same amount for something you know isn't as good as a comparably priced unit?
If one has extra features, even if you don't realistically use them, then why not buy it if you're spending the same amount of money? Unless they're completely phasing out the current model, which seems unlikely given how many units every store seems to have.
If these things are indeed cheaper to produce, shouldn't there realistically be a price difference of some nature? And believe it or not, many people still use the GC compatibility, in fact everyone I've ever sold a Wii to has used it and continues to buy Gamecube games from us. Not to mention this eliminates the Wavebird support, which will piss off a lot of SSB players.
"If it's the exact same price and you have a choice between two models, one with and one without BC, what the hell is the incentive or purpose behind the lesser model?"
That it's the only one available.
I don't know if you've noticed, but the other bundles are getting more scarse.
I reccomend people that really care for BC to go buy now, because come next year, they probably won't be able to.
"If these things are indeed cheaper to produce, shouldn't there realistically be a price difference of some nature?"
There is... for the manufacturer. Price drops on retail prices are not directly related to manufacturing cost drops; they happen when the manufacturer sees a potential sales hike, otherwise the price remains static so the maker can reap the profits.
If a price drop takes place, it will be after the holidays.
i definitely need to buy another white Wii in case they remove all models with BC completely.
this is the only model soo far in the US that has no BC right?????
god damn it nintendo i was hoping it wouldn't reach here in the US.
and yes Backward Compatibility is fucking important, especially Gamecube support. good luck finding component cables for GC.
i played killer 7 on Wii and it was amazing. smooth and no slowdowns plus playing it in widecreen wasn't really bad at all.
No, Sony forcefully removed the feature from existing consoles or forcefully removed online play (your choice!), both of which their customers paid for. Nintendo is giving advanced warning of a new system type. The two are unrelated.
"Sony forcefully removed the feature from existing consoles"
did they? was there a round of PS3s that had software emulation backwards compatibility that was later removed via firmware update? that would be a total dick move if that's true. but, I do know for sure my original 60GB is still playing PS2 games like a champ.
As far as I knew, Sony did just what Nintendo is doing now... released new PS3 skus with no BC built in.
