Seems like so many companies are against backward compatability. Not sure why though. It can't be doing that much damage surely.

Honestly, I haven't played a GameCube game on my Wii since around 2007. Of course, I wasn't going to buy a new Wii anyway, so it doesn't matter one way or the other.
Yeah, it sort of sucks to have fewer options than before, but the big draw of backwards compatibility is that you can play games on your new system even if it doesn't have many of its own games out yet. I'm still playing DS games on my 3DS, but I am no longer playing PS2 games on my PS3 or GameCube games on my Wii. They have their own games now!

If I didn't already have a Wii like everyone else, I would be concerned with not being able to use Gamecube controllers on games such as SSBB and MK Wii. Gamecubes are for playing Gamecube games.
I wonder why. Cost can't be a factor if it's selling for the same price. I bought a BC Wii just a few months ago for the same price.

I do not understand this new Wii much. The whole point of the Wii was that it was different and sat upright. Someone at the top of Nintendo must really be trying to reduce costs.
Shows that Nintendo is in trouble. It is sad that the Wii ended up like this, it had sooo much promise but Nintendo didn't take the lead and show us what could be done. Third parties did more unique things with it like Red Steel 2, the best Nintendo did was a glorified tech demo in Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Everything else could have been easily played on GAMECUBE.

I can't see the sense in it. doesn't this add a development cost? and what is the improvement from this? lighter? it was already pretty light. smaller? it's certainly small enough already. less noisy? well I've never noticed any major sound from my Wii.

I'm still a bit confused about that. I know Dale mentioned that in a blog yesterday, but when I checked at the NOE website, they never mentioned anything about the new model lacking Wi-Fi, only Gamecube support.

No GameCube compatibility is not a big problem anymore but honestly as someone who hasn't had a Wii yet but wants to, why would I spend the same amount of money for the same product that loses functionality? If you're going to take away functionality and make a lighter version of a console make it cheaper, or else its senseless to create the new version. I want the most out of my hard earned money and even if I never use my Wii for backwards GameCube play I don't want to spend the same amount on something that doesn't :/
Yeah, I'm in the market for a Wii, so I'd get this. I like to play GC games on my GameCube instead of the Wii anyway. Plus it means they got rid of that side flap that hides the GC controller ports which can break off. Also, I like Wii more horizontally than vertically.

People that think lack of BC isn't an issue strike me as incredibly dense, but I guess they just don't like having more games available to them or stupidly refuse to enjoy any game that isn't the latest and greatest in graphics.
I don't really see why Nintendo would cut such a central feature to their platforms this late in the game, but I'll give them credit for supporting it as long as they have given the competition's pathetic efforts.

I suppose if you're buying a Wii in 2011, you're buying it for Wii games, so whatever. I like having GCN support, but I do still have my Wii from 2007. I just hope it doesn't up and die on me.

...Well what's the freaking point? I use my wii as a flat gamecube more than I do an actual wii. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come with the WiiU.
This is the worst hardware revision in recent memory. Its problems are not too big, but hardware revisions are supposed to enhance features, not take them away.

I would think it's an issue for anyone who doesn't feel the need to have 20 consoles cluttering up their gameroom also. I mean, I guess its totally radical for people that still have to use their bedroom as their videogame room... what with the wicked glow in the dark ceiling stars and blacklight posters and bunk beds...

I really don't know why they bothered, without including GameCube games the Wii's library is laughable at best unless you're into shit.
Anyone who is big enough into nintendo gaming that something such as no gamecube compatibility is a big issue already owns a wii. Besides used gamecubes are literally only $10 for the system at local used games stores where I'm at.
The reason I have a problem taking out BC is because a Wii IS a gamecube. It's exactly the same hardware with maybe a little more RAM and support for a new peripheral. Not supporting Gamecube games on Gamecube hardware is kind of a slap in the face.

The issue here is that it's priced the same as every current model Wii bundle. If you can get an original Wii for the same price, why would you bother with this? A better pack-in game? You can even still find the red Wii's occasionally with NSMB packed in.
So essentially Nintendo is banking on everyone paying the exact same price for a lesser piece of hardware, just because people don't look into it very much and Nintendo can get away with it.

Does this mean real Wiis will be phased out? If so, then it's kind of an issue. I still don't own a Wii myself because I have someone else's available to play whenever, but I want one of my own one day. All I play is Brawl+ so I need Gamecube controller support.
backwards compatibility is the shit. personally, playing some of my favorite old GC games on a Wii is one of the system's biggest draws. I wouldn't buy a PS3 without BC either. it's such a convenient feature... and... I mean, fuck, they've had it this long, is it really going to affect their bottom line removing it at this point?

You're going to willingly pay the same amount for something you know isn't as good as a comparably priced unit?
If one has extra features, even if you don't realistically use them, then why not buy it if you're spending the same amount of money? Unless they're completely phasing out the current model, which seems unlikely given how many units every store seems to have.
If these things are indeed cheaper to produce, shouldn't there realistically be a price difference of some nature? And believe it or not, many people still use the GC compatibility, in fact everyone I've ever sold a Wii to has used it and continues to buy Gamecube games from us. I reccomend people that really care for BC to go buy now, because come next year, they probably won't be able to.

i played killer 7 on Wii and it was amazing. smooth and no slowdowns plus playing it in widecreen wasn't really bad at all.
