New BioShock patch needs patching? photo

Some Xbox 360 gamers were shocked to find that the new BioShock patch causes different issues to replace the ones just fixed.

2K Games community manager Elizabeth Tobey says that this patch "improves stability on autosaves, fixes a bug where an AI will not utilize health stations properly, and fixes a music bug in the title menu."

According to 1UP, some 2K Games forum members quickly responded with complaints of game freezing and other glitches, in some cases happening every 30 seconds. 2K Games is keeping an eye on their forums and checking into things, but says that clearing the cache often helps. To do this, hold the left and right bumper buttons down as the game loads. Several members of the Destructoid community have also reported that cache clearing seems to help.

[thanks, Justin]

Does the ability to download patches on consoles now make game designers think they can release games that are glitchy?

I still want a widescreen fix.

Yeah, but the autosave stability, AI using health stations, and title menu music bugs are all fixed right?

I'm pretty sure they've explained the widescreen issue and aren't going to fix it. Not like it matters, since it's pretty much unnoticeable.

I hate it when updates break things. More testing plz!

I see where Cowzilla3 is going with this, Consoles are becoming like PCs in this respect, soon our copy's of Left 4 Dead will have an invisible zombie glitch and we'll be WTFing all day.

I was wondering what the update did. It didn't freeze for me, I also didn't know anything different. Though it did seem like Splicers ran to the health stations ALOT more.

I did notice splicers running for health stations a lot more too. I also noticed the 2 second freezes every 30 seconds. I had just gotten my last non-"find every XXX in the game" achievement, so I was content putting it back on my shelf for now.

you know as much as developers complain about the hoops that microsoft makes them jump through to get games approved, patches wouldn't cause as many problems as they seem to.

I installed the patch before playing for a couple of hours last night. Fortunately I haven't experienced any issues with it.

I'm playing it a second time right now. I'm playing it on hard mode, and using the environment more when I play. I like it a lot more when I'm using the environment against the baddies. So much more fun to just skirt battles entirely by pitching a security plasmid at someone then drawing them out in front of a hacked camera.

Thank GOD. I thought my 360 was getting too hot for playing too long or something. I was afraid it was going to crap out again. I just got the thing back about 2 weeks ago from sending it in!

Once I bought the game it immediately started to lag and freeze up the second time I loaded my game.

The fix to this problem cant come soon enough. I played through the game anyways but it was painful to watch the game freeze every time I fought an enemy.

I haven't got the auto-patch yet, just started playing this gem last night (had to wait for my HDMI-equipped black beauty to arrive because my 360 pro died the day I bought Bioshock).

Sweet game though, can't wait to take a bathysphere back into rapture.

I havent had any major problems, but my dvd drive is failing because its taking awhile to load textures while playing the game. Lame, stupid xbox, looks like the 4th one is on the way.

Clearing the cache actually works for a lot of games (for those who don't know). My friend called me once and said his Oblivion (360) was freezing so I checked the forums and it said to clear the cache (only by holding A instead of the bumpers) and that cleared it up. He had actually been about to throw the whole game away as defective. So the moral of the story is remember to clear the cache, I guess.

I actually don't have a 360, but I have Bioshock for PC, and it definitely doesn't freeze up. It also looks better than the 360 version, but that's true of every game :)
