BioShock is going to be magnificent. You don't need anybody here to tell you that. This latest video, however, has pretty much confirmed to me that BioShock is capable of becoming THE most important videogame of this current generation and, quite possibly, all of recent memory. Not only does the gameplay look amazing, the graphics superb and the atmosphere perfect, but the stark moral choices presented to the player along the way, the true sense of dilemma -- it's that scope of deep, almost philosophical thought that sets BioShock apart and will earn it a place in history. Knowing that the destruction of your chief enemy will make a little girl scream in horror and ask "Mr. Bubbles" why he won't move? Yes, this is a game that will traumatize me -- in a very good way.

The ambitious goal of BioShock is to make you feel part of a living, breathing (albeit twisted and corrupted) world. Rapture will be full of enemies who's interactions with each other will be just as pronounced as their interactions with you. The idea of events unfolding in real time around you, creatures going about their business, not even always paying attention to the player, is something I've wanted fully captured in a game for a very long time, and BioShock may answer that desire. Still though, I can't get over the Little Sister/Big Daddy relationship. So touching and yet ... so horrifying. Just watch the video. It gave me chills.

Please nobody ban this because "oh no little girls die."

Yeah, my only real fear is that stupid big religion assholes are going to be all over this trying to ban/AO it.

God dammit. I never pre-ordered anything from Gamestop.com (or bought anything at all from the site for that matter). I did it for Bioshock, I better receive my copy at the least the first week the game is out. If not, I ......... will be making it a blockbuster night :(

Why would you not get the game the first week it is out? If you reserved it, come August 21 when the store opens, it should be there for you.

The only thing that could make Bioshock better was if it was produced/developed by KOEI and featured epic battles across China's three kingdoms... right, Jim?

Blindside: I did it online to have it shipped to my house, my sleep hours are fucked where I am asleep + working when the store is open (ie right now I am up past my bedtime, damn graveyard)

Seems great and all but it seems like the moral choice is whether or not to harvest the little sister and killing the big daddy but i mean can you realistically get through the game without doing it?

I'm somewhat bummed that they won't be including any kind of multiplayer with this. Not because it needs it, I'm sure the SP will more than carry itself, its just that the weapons and abilities look like they'd be a blast to use in a deathmatch environment.

I hereby miss the point entirely and complain that the game forces you to kill innocent young girls for sheer enjoyment.

you know what? i think they may have said too much about bioshock. Im gonna get the game, and im gonna kill a big daddy, and i know even now that im not gonna be all like 'crap, what have i done' because i know already that thats what theyre intending - ill be detached from the game, probably ill be feeling pretty good from managing to kill one, ill probably even walk up to the little sister and the daddys corpse and say 'hahaha suck it bitches!!'.
On the other hand, if less had been said about such aspects of the game, when i came across them, id be feeling what they wanted me to feel because i wouldnt go into it with any expectations.
Unfortunately, theyve taken the example of most other big name games coming out this year, but most of them have aspects that should be showcased, to get you pumped up, like big explosions and stuff. Maybe they could have just shown the combat (although it doesnt look particularly great to me)and crazy powers(which make up for the combat), heck the first trailer where the guy was fighting a big daddy and ended up with its drill though his stomach was enough for me to want it.
Hopefully therell be more than a few other moral choices to be made that the game still has the intended effect on me...

I think the big daddy would be great in the fight against paedophiles. We can leave out the harvesting of Adam bit though.

It's actually okay to kill young white girls in a video game. If they had bad hair and were not white, that's a whole other issue.

@ ajaxender

agreed, they revealed quite a bit more than they really should've. It reminds of what 3DRealms did with Prey. Great game but there weren't a whole lot of surprises left once the marketing was finished.

I've been waiting for this game ever since I beat System Shock 2, about 5 years ago. That game blew me away with everything it pulled off. If this game can pull off the right amount of atmosphere and "OH MY GOD!!" moments that System Shock 2 did I'm gonna be glued to my TV for a weekend.

This game just helps kick off the fall/winter gaming marathon. From here on out were gonna be getting a handful of kick ass games every month. This time of year is like the gaming version of the Iron Man Triathlon, hope you all have been building up for it.

I agree with you jim that this game is going to be amazing but I wonder if some fps fans (and I'm talking about console fps fans) will appreciate the gameplay or diverse skill options and just run through the game and then say "whats the big deal or that's it?".

My fear is this game will be not what people expected (not sell well overall) and prevent developers from trying new ideas and introduce new mechanics to the fps genre (which it clearly needs).

Looks absolutely amazing, and for once the actual game world looks genuinely interesting, instead of the usual gay porn fantasies of muscle men with guns.

The tone of the game is also very original, it's as if Terry Gilliam made a game, congratulations to the developers.

This game looks totally cool, but I didn't like how they were bragging that they had enemies fighting each other real time in the game like it was an amazing innovation. OG DOOM had enemies fighting each other, pretty well incorporated. If an enemy shot another enemy different from them (i.e. an imp shooting a demon) they would start fighting each other.

This game won't be banned.

Its being made by a small studio and the only people who care about it and are hyping it up are the fans themselves, its to obscure to attract the public's attention.

I view like I do the Shin Megami series, in Nocturne you are a demon given by powers by lucifer himself and you fight the trumpeter and the voice of god, in the end you lead hell's army into the gates heaven, if that didn't set off the religions lunatics this won't either.

Hell in Persona 3 you shoot yourself in the head to unleash the Persona, I see no fuss over that, why? Because its not GTA or anything similar, Bioshock will most likely be left alone.

And after seeing that, I am conviced to get it, I want it NOW.
