Atlus was kind enough to send along some new screenshots of the PlayStation 2 and Wii dungeon crawling action RPG Baroque.

Players work to gradually descend into Neuro Tower in search of absolution, fighting off some really f*cked up looking baddies along the way. Sounds like a winner, right? The first game images we saw late last year didn't look so great, but that may have had more to do with the image size and capture method. but that didn't stop me from being excited about this port. Luckily, these new screen captures look much better, and now I'm even more excited for this April 8th release. I was hoping to see more messed up monsters, though.

This pro-dying game (seriously!) of levels that constantly change as you slowly descend to the bottom of an evil tower isn't going to appeal to everyone. But the ones that are down for this kind of thing should probably get a preorder in. You know how quick those Atlus games go, don't you?

What do you think? Is Baroque your kind of thing?

Waiting on the Destructoid Review..there are a few reviews out there in the open that have placed this game in a negative light.

Most of the negative reviews for the game criticize it for being a Rogue-like, IE: you start at level 1 when you die, lose items, random generated dungeons, etc.

If you like Rogue-likes like Azure Dreams or Shiren: The Wanderer this is an excellet game. If you do not like thos ekinds of games you will hate it. Simple as that.

I for one love Roguelikes, and next week canot come fast enough.

I wish more Atlus games came to the Wii. I would love to play Persona 3: FES on there. Dealing with yet another console and wired controllers is a serious bummer--I don't even use wired controllers with my NES and SNES.

Seeing how i can walk into a gamestop any day of the week and find a copy of disgaea laying around, I unlike most gamers can afford to sleep on this nice looking title

Wow, Atlus has been suddenly bringing out a ton of Rogue-like games in the US lately. Add that to other Rogue-likes like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and the new Chocobo Dungeon game, maybe we're seeing a resurgence of the genre?

Definitely going to purchase this. I'm a sucker for rogue-types.

This is a little outside of the games that I normally play, so I'm planning on renting it first, just for a test drive.

Looks pretty sweet so far though. :3

I'm very wary of this game simply because of the not just mediocre but intensely negative reviews that have come through the pipeline so far (including, if I recall correctly, a staggering 3 from, of all places, Nintendo Power.)

I hope Dtoid does a review of this one (and of Opoona too; thats a game I'm very interested in since its been protrayed by those who liked it as a unique RPG in the Earthbound mode--- and by those who hate it as a confusing, boring game. Although everyone agrees it has cool music.)

Reminds me a little of a manga called BLAME! Still, it's Atlas, so my interest is piqued.

@Rainbow Black: Yeah, except that Disgaea isn't that rare anymore since it's had like 3 reprints. And you can be SURE that Baroque isn't even going to get as big of a run as even Disgaea's first run, since it's only a $30 game and isn't a cute, funny, easy game.

@ajay42: Nintendo Power spent their entire review basically saying "This game is too hard" in various different ways. I wouldn't give their review any credit at all.

This'll definitely be better than the original Saturn version.

Seriously, have you tried to play that?

@Gen Eric Gui:

I hope you're right. I was initially very hyped on this game and was preparing for an all RPG May of Lost Odyssey, this and Opoona but now the only game I've really heard anything about is Lost Odyssey. I forgot Baroque was $30; that makes taking a chance much easier.

I was really looking forward to this title but with Rondo of Swords, Persona 3: Fes(never played P3 so looking forward to that), GTAV, Mana Khemia(which has been ejoyable so far) and Mario Kart comming out this month I think I'm gonna have to pass and risk trying to get it later.
Besides, Etrian Odyssey II is coming out in June so that will satisfy my dungeon crawler addiction.

I hate those cross PS2/ Wii games.
Worse graphics on Wii and the lack of good use of motion control

I'm going to buy this, good review or not... then I'll judge it for myself.

Personally, I think it's definitely going to be one of those games that you'll either love or hate from the start.

Looks a lot like breath of fire dragon quarter, which isn't really a terribly great boon. Ah well, I doubt this one will see europe in any case.
