I think if you aren't excited for Batman: Arkham Asylum, you have to be either completely hateful of all things Batman, in a catatonic state, or dead. The trailer after the jump that shows off the FreeFlow combat system is just really interesting to me, because I already knew I'd have fun beating the life out of people as Batman, but it looks to me as if Rocksteady is putting more love and detail into it, which could make for a very enticing final product.
You can read our preview of the game here, which explains in more detail how FreeFlow works, or you can just hit the jump and see it in action. (There's also a hands-on report from the GDC show floor here.) Coming out for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the game is currently slated for a late summer release. Get in the comments and tell me why you don't want this game. Seriously. I'm interested to see who can give me a logical reason other than the three I named above.
the free flow mechanic is pretty cool. But there's two things that bugs me. The game time seems to slow down when you fight the thugs. Also, the enemy seems to stand around a lot, they don't punch or kick at every opportunity, or maybe because the gameplay video was on easy mode or something.
Wow, that's really impressive. The "Predator" gameplay seems interesting, albeit limited and confined, but every new video I see of this action makes me wanting the game more!
I just hope the campaign mode is the best features of both the Predator and FreeFlow combat challenges. Even without that confirmation, this game is already on my radar to be purchased!
I just hope there's a little more immersion in the game. I don't want to have to take a break every 15-30 seconds to see my 'score' of how I just fought. Show it once during the 'end of the level' sequence or something of the sort.
First of all, I'm absolutely interested in Arkham Asylum for a MYRIAD of reasons that I won't get into, 'cause that's not what you asked for.
The primary reason I'm exercising cautious optimism (and would consider NOT purchasing any other game) is because it seems like there's a great deal of opportunity for the gameplay to be entirely too repetetive; something of a bane of superhero titles.
In Arkham's case, there simply looks to be too much awesome to be TOO worried about that.
I played the demo at a convention and was not really impressed by the combat. It got kind of boring after a while. But I am still looking foward to the game.
c'mon people, free flowing batman combos...slow down, gives you time to reassess your strategy and next move...i for one do not see any problem with that rather than fast paced button mashing. I could be wrong.
I'm not catatonic or dead, and I love Batman. But I'm still not going to get Arkham Asylum, because:
a) I hate licensed games, movie tie-ins or standalone, whatever. I've never boughten a licensed game, and I never will. It's the old grumpy side in me.
b) It looks repetitive and honestly, I'm not too crazy about playing it. Doesn't really seem to have many new idea's and I think it's getting a bit too much praise already just because it is a good licensed game.
I played the PS3 demo of this at Gamestop about a week ago. The level I played was this challenge map. It was fairly fun, but it was easy. Well, at least it made me look good
I did enjoy this brief demo!
I am a fanatical Bat-Fan and can not wait for this game!
Hell, I had a great time with Batman: Vengeance and Batman Begins, so I'm sure I'll have a helluva lotta fun with this one.
So far, it looks and sounds great!
See if they added a battle system like this to the Dynasty Warrior/Gundam series, it could make the combat a lot more intereseting. Personally I'll still play them and I think I'll check this game out just because I enjoy Batman.
honestly the predator trailer looked really fun, but since you asked and I'm not dead, batman hater, and only semi catatonic
>don't know enough about the game as a whole yet beyond the two gameplay trailers, hard to judge what it's really going to be like
>for as much graphical polish as the trailers have, the characters still look blocky and goofy to me. Batman looks like a linebacker in a cape. (now that I think about it, part of the plot is that the inmates have been using Bane's buff-juice... but still...)
>It's extremely hard to make a great game based on a license and I'm not holding my breath on this one to be more than average.

But i wanna see more bad guys!!
PS: I'm not really a fan of the classic Batman costume, but i'm kinda likening this one.

I hope this game is as good as the trailers make it seem.
