New Afrika details, pictures, and Japanese release date photo

We've been seeing very vague pictures of Sony's PS3 safari title Afrika for some time now, but they've never really bothered to explain the game in detail. And then, all of the sudden, they suddenly drop a Japanese release date on us.

Sony Computer Entertainment and National Geographic team up to bring Afrika to the PS3 in Japan on August 28th. Players become a photographer/explorer, a member of an animal ecology research team who travels by foot, car, and air balloon to snap shots of the animals of Africa.

Acording to Japanese Web page Dengeki, National Geographic was present during the development phase to oversee the creation and implementation of the CG animals, as well as their motions and surroundings. On top of that, they've also supplied an "Animal library," which lets gamers get a better look at the creatures of Afrika.

The Afrika Japanese Web page has launched with plenty of new details, images, and more. Check out our gallery below for screenshots from Dengeki.

Whoa, so can I shoot these fuzzy creatures or is this just a "look at the aminalz!" game? Multiplayer death match with lions would rule.

HOLY SHIT.....Do you guys see that cheetah on the Jeep? That driver must be crapping their pants with fear.

Not really interested in the game but it does look half decent graffix wh0re wise.

They should just make this a budget DLC instead. Not worth it to get Pokemon Snap with real animals.

If it features Home integration to the point where we can take group tours and then purposely ditch someone in the Lion's den, then I am in favor of this title.

First off, yes pkmn snap was not what anybody was expecting - but it turned out to be fun, esp competing with friends for highscores on the volcano level.

Second - the game looks decent. The only reason it wouldnt be as good as pkmn snap is that REAL ANIMALS DONT EVOLVE into NEW CREATURES that BREATH FIRE.

I always found it hilarious hitting the pkmn in the head with the apples.

So it IS like Pokemon Snap. Ahah.
I'd rather be a poacher. Or some PETA-retard on a one man, guns-a-blazing mission against poachers.

Yeah, since the main character isn't a 500 pound musclebound walking penis with a voice that sounds like hes gargling stones and there aren't any guns, people probably aren't going to give this a try.

But I'm excited about it. Then again, I like to travel and take pictures and stuff like that. So maybe I'm bias. Still, it's fun to read all the people hating on it without knowing much about it. As for me, I'm not sold on it, but I like the idea so far.

Might not be bad the graphics are great. And as it looks like it is more of an educational title could be just what I need to keep my niece occupied...

I'm honestly excited for this game. It's like Planet Earth but as a video game!! They should make a prehistoric version next :D.

I'm actually looking forward to this game. I loved Pokemon snap as a kid. I just hope the game involves more than just taking pictures on a rail car. Let me walk around and explore, please.

if they actually make it a realistic photography game so you need to kinda know or learn how to take photos that would be cool. like set your aperture wrong and your one perfect shot of a cheetah attacking an alligator gets washed out by too much sun light. or set a multi shot camera on a tripod next to some bait.

This is one the wife is gonna love I'm sure. Looks great and I'm sure it'll be quite fun and interesting. Nice how people bash something for being different and exploring new gameplay varieties. Apparently the Microsoft FPS shooter mindset has assimilated everyone.

Fetusmilk, that's exactly what they've stated in earlier talk, that you have to adjust the focus, aperture, zoom, angle, etc. The better the picture, the better your pay, which you use to buy better cameras and equipment.

And really, anyone who thought this would have shooting or poaching is beyond retarded. Because non-shooting games where you play a role you could never do IRL has never been popular. Oh wait... Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Cooking Mama...
