New 3D Dot Game Heroes pictures and soundtrack info! photo

We're all very excited for 3D Dot Game Heroes at Destructoid HQ. The Zelda-esque gameplay and self-aware sense of humor looks and sounds rather brilliant, while the bright and unique design of the game makes it look like one of the most gorgeous PS3 games of all time. Here are some new pics and a little bit of information, because we can't stop talking about it.

The new screens show off the freshly revealed female characters. There are three character classes, and it is now known that you can choose a female equivalent of each class. Some new weapons have also been shown, titled the "Dragon Killer" and "Orichalcum," both perfectly stereotypical names. In addition to this, there are two bosses in the gallery, a giant snake with a weak point on its tail, and a Dark Knight that is both massive and very fast.

Aniplex is publishing the game's official soundtrack in Japan. The soundtrack will hit streets on November 25 for 2,130 Yen, and will include a special sticker and picture label. Judging from the trailer, the game will have a pretty rad soundtrack, so this might be worth trying to acquire. The game itself will release on November 5.

I want this game. I want it I want it I want it.

Looks interesting, but a HUGE rip off of LOZ.

WTF? IT really is a HUGE one. He used a boomerang to hit a button in a dungeon. The button was across the water.

The water in this game is AWFUL, it doesn't match the rest of the game at all.

---------------So, the sony fan boys are getting a rip off of Zelda.

"Looks interesting, but a HUGE rip off of LOZ."

You realize this game is a parody, right? It's MEANT to look like Zelda. It's not a rip-off, it's a spoof.

Who's h5e5l5lo5? Don't you mean h5e5l5l5o5? h5e5l5lo5 is someone else and, if you ask me, you're kind of insulting h5e5l5l5o5 for confusing the two.

Relax man, what crawled up your butt and died this morning? It's just a game, yea it parodies Zelda. Lots of games have done so seriously. Look at Golden Axe Warrior and you'll see 3DDH parodies it just as much as it parodies Zelda. In fact I'd wager to say that it parodies it even more and the humor comes in that it's parodying a game that is in itself a parody.

*Edit* Golden Axe Warrior wasn't actually a parody, it was a copy most likely created in attempt to give Sega ammunition against Zelda. I got a little carried away with the word, I meant 3DDH was parodying olden Axe Warrior, which was a copy of Zelda. Even more so than spoofing Zelda.

So, they could also make a game that is 3D dots and have a red plumber jumping on mushrooms, it could be a spoof but it is still a rip off.

I love the art direction of this game. It has that old-school Dragon Quest feel and that's a good thing.

h5e51515o5 has come a long way man! He's a resident! He has an avatar now. The least we can do is adopt him!

It makes me think original Dragon Warrior, personally. Unless I see a kid with pointy ears and a green cocktail dress throwing a boomerang and collecting golden shapes, I'm not inclined to think this is a rip-off, at least in the negative sense.

Is Futurama so terrible because of all the sci-fi shows it parodies?

yeah the pixel art doesn't remind me of zelda but of Dragon Quest. Either way this better have an epic Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy type story otherwise this cool art is just going to waste. I second the water and add that the skyline looks weird. other than that the game is beautiful in motion and in screenshots.

The new princess type looks pretty cool as well

Fair enough about h5e5l5l5o5. Has anyone mentioned Shadow Complex to him? And yea I see what you're saying with the parodying Dragon Warrior. Golden Axe Warrior ripped that kind of design off from Dragon Warrior lol Take a look at it if you got time:

http://www.gamespite.net/toastywiki/index.php/Games/GoldenAxeWarrior

Ripping/parodying/copying aside, Zelda, Dragon Warrior/Quest, and Golden Axe Warrior were all great games. 3D:DH looks like it will be as well.

This thread is the reason why more comedy videogames don't exist. Some people have no clue what parody actually is.

Actually (since we haven't seen the actual game yet we can't say if it is a parody, inspired or just a plain rip-off. Shadow Complex was obviously inspired by Metroid but it was in a whole new area and used all sorts of orginal ideas. This could do the same but right now we can't say h5e51515o5 is right or wrong as it doesn't seem to be that much different besides in 3D. It's a valid complaint (For now)

Well, I would understand that it were a spoof if the whole game wan't about the spoof. If it was a little spoof in an original game it would be fine.

But when the whole game is just a spoof about LOZ, it doesn't matter if it is serious or kidding, it is still a rip off.

h5e5l5lo5 is such a noob for not noticing the parody of this game. I see it ALL OVER and I love it! Any word on if it's coming to the US? I really need to go buy a PS3.

You shouldn't base the ENTIRE game off of a spoof. When you do that, it just looks like a rip off.

Hey guys! I have a funny idea! Lets go make a 3D Zelda game that looks like it is made out of legos! But lets make it for the PS3!

We can make it as a spoof, but the whole game will just be a spoof of the Zelda games! Yah! And we can make the gameplay and puzzles just like it! haha funny spoof, right?

Or...we could just call it a rip off! :D

Comedy is the one genre I think games need more entries into. It's one type of game that had a renaissance during the SCUMM era, Monkey Island, Day Of The Tentacle and Sam & Max being prime examples - yet the challenge is going to be whether or not the efforts can evolve beyond point 'n click mechanics and into a fully-interactive comedic venture. Plot is one thing, but actually playing through the comedy is an entirely different concept.

I love the idea of this game, it combines Zelda, Dragon Warrior and original Final Fantasy, in a format that pops it into current gen. I'm hoping we can see some monsters or NPCs that pay homage to these games as well.

"You shouldn't base the ENTIRE game off of a spoof. When you do that, it just looks like a rip off."

You realize it's not a "Zelda" game, right? It's an action-RPG - a genre that Zelda is a part of. Other such games of the old school variety are Ys and Xak. Also Alundra, Illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer, etc. They all fit the same mold.

God, I hope this is just a small sampling of Destructoid's readership because if it's representative then this industry is fucking doomed.

I still think that the game looks good, it just reminds me too much of LOZ.

I think the 3D part is very cool, I just think they should be more original.

Is it just me or are the 'voxels' smaller on some weapons. I'm guessing that the weapons get smaller and smaller voxels as the game progresses.

I just hope that the gameplay isn't completely derivative, but passes it off as okay as a satire of the genre.

If it has all the depth and interesting mechanics and subsystems as Demon's Souls, but put into a Zelda/Secret of Mana type of game with all of this clever satire, great style & graphics, and such.
