If Samit's recent HD Akuma spotting wasn't enough to convince you, this scan from the latest issue of Famitsu (spotted on michiyoyoshiku's C-blog) will officially confirm that the rumors are true -- 2D fighting games are back from the dead. Capcom may have lost the license to make games featuring Marvel characters, but that hasn't stopped them from finally moving forward with their "VS" series, though their new crossover partners may not be anyone you've ever heard of. Check your calendar before you go on with this story, as you may need a reality check.
No, it's not April 1st.
First details and blurry scans of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes after the jump.
Who in blue blazes is Tatsunoko, you ask? You must not be Japanese. Tatsunoko is an animation company that's been producing and co-producing hit shows in Japan since the 1960's, including Speed Racer, Gatchaman (known to many as Battle of the Planets,) Cassherm, Robotech, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and weird stuff like this. These guys may not be the best choice for Capcom's new crossover partner, but they are definitely not worst.
It's hard to say if this game will ever leave Japan, or if like Namco X Capcom it will be landlocked due to licensing issues. The Speed Racer and Robotech game licenses are always getting tossed around, and who knows what's going on with the Evangelion game license? That's assuming that those characters will even make it into Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes. So far, the only characters we know will appear in the game are Ryu, Chun-Li, Casshern, and Ken (from Gatchaman, not Street Fighter), so those licensing issues may not be a problem.
Regardless whether this game ever leaves Japan or not, one thing is for sure. Street Fighter 4 looks a lot less exciting compared to this purebred, 2D goodness. Sadly for Capcom, this isn't the first time one of the core Street Fighter games was overshadowed by a shiny new crossover game. Poor Street Fighter III: Third Strike didn't get any play next to Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Will history repeat itself between these two upcoming Capcom fighters?

Casshern is one of the best Sci-fi flicks independent of a trilogy, and one of my favorite Japanese movies, second only to BR.
Yeah, I probably just hyped it up way too much, and it's definitely a cult hit, not for everyone. It's very melodramatic, so if you like melodrama(I love it, if it's done well) you won't mind the 'over acting'. Visually, it's amazing, awesome colors and effects(for 2004). Great music and score, adds to the melodrama like a Final Fantasy song and pulls at your heart strings.
The director is currently working on a Live Action 'Goemon' film, says imdb.
I was actually really dissapointed in the film. Granted, i didn't see the original Casshernn, but i was told it was awesome too, and then the movie seemed like 2.5 hours (thats right, 150 minutes) of weird dialogue and music, with 10 minutes of cool action scenes, (Much like the DevilMan movie) but that's just my opinion.
oh, and Samurai Pizza Cats, in a capcom game? Thankyou Japan.
Snake Oiler Vs M. Bison????
Guile VS Speed Racer????
I'm aroused right now.
MOTHERFUCKING GATCHAMAN!
Dude, I'm rocking the fuck out of folks with the Science Ninja Team. Also, if you're only familiar with "G-Force," go watch the original [i]Gatchaman[i] series. Totally worth it, as long as you can gloss over how old it is.
They had better bring this to the States. Capcom fucking owes us.
maybe MAYBE????
MANGA HOME VIDEO.
Wow, how times have changed.
As for a personal wish list for this game, all I need is a cyclone from Mospeada/Invid Invasion series and I'm pretty much all set.
Throw in a Yellow Dancer musical number stage, and this game is guaranteed a "10/10" from at least one reviewer (me).
And they'll probably have Ken, unless they do that MVC1-Ryu-thing. Oh, and I hope they do us a solid and put Strider Hiryu in there to go alongside my mad Gatchaman-Science-Ninja action.
this has got me more hyped than street fighter 4!
Also, if any character fromm NGE is in it, I'm doing backflips and importing and hacking whatever system it's out on to play it.
Love
Again, enjoyable movie, but by no means "excellent" in any cinematic sense. It's actually rather saddening to see the lost potential 'cause the director did an incredible job on a handful of scenes - he just couldn't join anything together or give characters real depth.
I bet... Its a fighting game afterall.
It's one of those films where people take about thirty minutes to die.
The visual effects were nice enough (although Casshern's suit looked akin to something from Power Rangers) but the story was so confusing and it tried way too hard to be meaningful.
Of course, then again you should never see a movie and think "OMG THIS WILL BE THE BEST MOVIE EVER" before seeing it.
Everything else was just useless fluff.
I didn't even comment on the article in my previous post!
Capcom 2-3 fighter? ('_')b
Anime schoolgirls in fighting games, kinda fits really.
This is probably why Capcom selected Tatsunoko, because their shows have already gone global, and most are well known. With that, half the battle is already done. Like the previous Marvel vs Capcom games, it should be easy to shift them. And we know Capcom loves those monies.
Damn, my 360 may need a new fighting controller now. I hope Hori have one in the works. Please get this baby to consoles.
They might as well make Capcom Vs. Kellogs. Tony the Tiger would put up a much better fight than Speed Racer. HEEEE'S GREAT!
Besides, Rick Hunter > Ikaru Ichi Joe.
Capcom have rarely made a crap fighting games, producing countless fun, mostly well animated games. brilliantly designed games. If you take a look at Marvel vs Capcom 2, that game has 35 characters in it, 35 all with their own individual moves, specials, taunts etc. When Midway put in this much effort in 2D, then I'll buy their games.
This isn't a east vs west arguement as such, but its a display of who's still kin
