Netflix PS3 streaming discs to become garbage by October photo

In the grand scheme of things, having to use a disc to stream Netflix-flavored movie magic to your PlayStation 3 is, well, about as high on the list as needing to point your TV remote in every conceivable direction before the cable box finally picks up the signal. Nonetheless, it is an inconvenience.

But don't lose faith yet, young one: the answer to our first-world-problem prayers is coming. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, during the company's second quarter earnings call, was quoted as saying, "Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc, and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements."

October isn't exactly right around the corner. Let's hope Netflix can push out its disc-less app far before horror movie month rolls around.

Finally! I keep misplacing my Wii Netflix disc and PS3 Netflix disc.

I don't really mind having to use the disk, but I do want to see a better UI, hopefully one that lets you search for movies on the PS3 itself, rather than just select from whatever they've decided to display.

Wow, I may actually use it now. (On PS3, I mean, I use Netflix on 360 about every other day) Inb4 "NO REASON TO HAVE XBL GOLD NOW!" until they realize this is for PlayStationPlus members only. ;D

I'm glad for this, at some point my ps3 stopped reading the disk intermittently. It's been solid as of late but it shouldn't be an issue to start with.

Here's hoping the improve the interface as well. Having it be diskless would be nice, but having it look and operate as nicely as it's 360 counterpart would be great.

You know the PS3's media remote?

Works by blue-tooth.

Doesn't matter where you point it, you can have it in your pocket, a different room, outside, still works.

Just thought I'd throw that in there.

this is good news.

@ lucame - Lies!

Seriously though, if you're in the garden having a BBQ listening to music on the PS3, there's no need to awkwardly point the remote through the window or anything. It's sweet, you don't even have to pick it up, just press the buttons. i love it. i think ALL remotes should be Blue-tooth.

"Down at Fraggle rock, grab that Fraggle by the cock, swing it round your head, now that Fraggle's really dead. Catch another one, stick a pencil up it's bum, now you're having fun, down at Fraggle Rock"

That is all.

@Rammstein

I highly doubt they will restrict it to Playstation Plus considering Plus is optional and not something you NEED like XBL.

Sounds good to me, while i dont mind having to use the disk, would be nicer to just be able to launch it without one.

I don't mind using the disc either, but a new UI will be nice to have.

And for some weird reason, my Wii Netflix has never bugged out on me while my PS3 Netflix craps out all the time.

@Zeik56:

It's better than the stupid 3D in the 360 one.
